  • In the summer of 2020 the CEO and founder of MTH Electric Trains, Mike Wolf, announced he'll be retiring from MTH and sold some of the MTH tooling to Atlas Model Railroad Co. and Lionel Trains. To celebrate Mike's hard work for MTH in January of 2021 MTH announced some uncatalogued products including the Union Pacific Big Boy which would be Mike Wolf's final ever products for MTH. Once we seen one of our favorite dealerships, Legacy Station, had some of these final run edition Big Boys on preorder we didn't hesitate to preorder one. A year and a half later at the end of April 2022 the final run Big Boys finally arrived. We preordered the restoration version of the famous Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 along with the shiny and beautiful gloss black paint which is to replicate the real 4014 when it was fresh out of restoration in Cheyenne, Wyoming in May 2019. We waited a year and a half for this gorgeous model and it was well worth the wait. We put together a short video with this gorgeous model along with our Lionel Legacy Union Pacific FEF-3 no. 844. We're very grateful to own this beautiful model and a huge thanks to Mike Wolf, MTH, and Legacy Station for making this fantastic model. We hope y'all enjoy this video.

Looks like a run-in is needed and / or there's a timing tape / TAC reader issue / the way it's so "jerky". I just wonder who's responsible / & who fix warranty fix such an expensive engine ?. "BEAUTIFUL THO It may be" !. :- ) Great Clip !

Well...he didn't sell off _all_ the tooling to Atlas. Mostly the modern-era Premier diesels and freight cars, and Premier passenger cars. All of the HO and S tooling went to other companies (ScaleTrains and S-Helper). A small amount of tooling was sold to Lionel, but they haven't disclosed what they got beyond just putting the new acquisitions in their catalog (small steam/diesel switchers, Premier 64' passenger cars, and some RailKing buildings)
MTH still retains almost all of its heavy-electric, steam locomotive and steam-era rolling stock tooling, plus all of its RailKing line. They continue to put out limited custom runs for their dealer network, as well as a small assortment of dealer-network-wide product on top of the custom runs. Also, Atlas O's equipment is now being produced in MTH's factory, which unlike their previous builder, is dedicated to O scale product.
Also, I got one of these BB's too. Did yours come wrapped with paper inside the plastic instead of the usual foam sheeting?

sorry but its seems to be out of sync and jerky on the start off just doesn’t cut it and for the amount paid should be smooth and flawless you would think.even at a slow crawl it’s jerky not impressive just an opinion!!!!!

If it's using MTH's proprietary DCC Decoder vs a standards compliant decoder, that could be part of the issue.
