Flight Attendant 101
A POSITION (FLIGHT ATTENDANT): first class flight attendant. On some airlines the A is called the lead or the purser.
B POSITION: food cart (main cabin)
C POSITION: beverage cart (main cabin)
D POSITION: beverage cart/ floater (mostly main cabin.. first class when needed)
CREW SCHEDULING: rockstars who handle our schedules (flights, trips, days off..). We call them when we need help or have questions about our schedules. Very hard work.. we have the best people!
DEADHEAD: basically…. Working crew being repositioned as a passenger to a city where they are needed for another flight.
GALLEY: the unofficial official flight attendant office/workspace. This is where the food, drinks, carts, etc is located. Also where flight attendant jumpseats are.
INFLIGHT SHOES, INFLIGHTS: comfortable shoes, usually flats or slip ons, we wear during flight.
JUMPSEAT: where flight attendants sit for take off and landing.
KCM: Known Crew Member. For airline inflight crews to bypass regular security screening. The system constantly checks if we are in good standing with the airline, the law, etc. Random security checks happens somewhat often.
LEG: a flight. If I say I have 2 legs today… I mean, I have 2 flights today.
LIMO: fancy word for driving from one city to another. Kind of like deadheading.. but on the road!
LINE HOLDER: flight attendants (and pilots) who hold a schedule. Basically, line holders know where they are going before the trip starts.
PAIRING: it’s the schedule of a trip.
Example: 2 day trip
Day 1
06: 00- 10: 00 anc- sea
12: 00- 12: 40 sea- pdx
Pairing:
Layover pdx
Day 2
13: 00- 3: 30 pdx- anc
RANDOM: when we are randomly chosen for extra security screening.
RELEASE (GETTING RELEASED): getting off duty with permission.
RESERVE: flight attendants (and pilots) who are on standby. Meaning, reserves do not know where they are going. They wait for scheduling to call if they are needed.
SIT: time between flights. Also called “layover”.
TAG: tag you’re it!! Usually happens to reserves, but can most definitely happen to line holders. If scheduling needs someone to work another flight.. they can add additional flying to any flight attendant as long as it’s under contract.
TRIP: when we say “trip”, we basically mean we are working x amount of days. 2 day trips- we are working for 2 days. 3 day trips- we are working for 3 days. And so on.

Oh my gosh. Your video started with you saying you just left visiting your folks in Hawaii. My heart hurt. I know the feeling so well. Leaving Hawaii and your folks there is something I've been doing for years. Taking off from Hawaii is always so sad! Looks like you got back into the swing of things in Anchorage, though! Ya it really depends when you get hired on. I don’t know many 5 year reserves.. but I know it could happen if there’s a hiring pause.. for example the pandemic. And yay I’m glad it was helpful! ☺️

I'm a flight attendant and I've been on reserve since I started .... its been a year and a half 🙃 The one pet peeve I have about being on reserve is being on ready reserve lol
Ohh what is ready reserve? I think it’s so interesting how each airline are so different but similar at the same time haha
@@JaeymiZaki it’s when you have to sit at the airport during your on call shift and be ready to report to a gate in 20 minutes if called 🥲
@@realpristine ahhh I see! We call that airport standby here. Or a lot of us like to call it airport appreciation hahaha 😝 do you call your first class FA, purser or lead? I was so confused when I learned not every airline says “A FA” haha
I enjoyed watching this! Very informative and I appreciate the details..thinking of leaving my corporate job to follow in the footsteps of my parents. My father was a UAL Captain for 34 years, retired in Honolulu, Nu'Uanu Blvd and mother was a 'Stewardess' in the 60's. I am in my early 50's. It is sort of like pulling the handle on a slot machine, when 10 o'clock comes around at check in. Bar,Bar, bar, yeah dropped that trip. I get it. This old dog, can learn new tricks. Now the purple dot with employee sitting, means hang out in the crew room on reserve, because it is an on site sit?
My job has me on call from quitting time, at 3:30 pm, to 7:00 am, monday thru friday. All day sat/sun 365 days a year. Sucks the life out of you. That's why I would love to walk the trails like you do.

Would love to do a camping/fishing trip up that way. I assume there are the usual hotel chains, like in the lower 48. Will have to do some research. Love the outdoors.
@@jordanfontes7269 nope! You have to get a really good tent during the summers cuz our igloos melt in the heat…… hahaha just kidding! I’ve always wanted to make a joke about that 😂 yes, there are many local hotel choices, as well as the usuals 😄

So if I understood well, with your airline you couldn't drop all your trips? Just one trip?
Oh no! You can drop more than one :) the day needs to be open to drop though.
