My all-time favorite Garth song!! It was also one of the most memorable music videos ever in country music; no wonder it won an ACM award for Video of the Year, despite the song only climbing to #49 on the country charts, which is a shame, because it was a CMT favorite over the years! I wonder how much its budget was to make it?

Kylie Pollert might’ve been a decent amount to make, the laundry list was:
      - 6 White Baby Grand Pianos
      - 12 Full White Tuxes
      - 12 White Stetsons
      - 35 Gallons of Mud
      - 35 Gallons of Red Paint
Not to mention utilizing a custom built lift system, the special effects expertise of Vince Montefusco, production leadership of John Small, the crew who did everything from small things like Velcro the hat down and double side tape the tail and lapel so they didn’t go up when going into the paint to big things like putting the paint running up the walls on template for green screen and cleaning up the stage and scenery nearly every take.
I’d say it was probably in the $100k or more range.

"Steam on the window/Salt in a kiss/Two hearts have never pounded like this"... that is a very high budget for a music video! I also read that he hyperventilated during shooting, because it was so cold...

Kylie Pollert yeah he talked about that on his second video collection vhs that features the video. Said they started out using straight up paint that had been stored outside the night before day 1. He started hyperventilating, but thankfully the paint was too thick and the lift stopped out, preventing him from going completely under. He said “I thought it was gonna be the last anyone was gonna see of me. I still believe it was the hand of God that stopped that piano from going down, and I’m really glad it did. The next day it was thinned out, it was warmed, was just like diving in a pool, I’m glad things turned out and I really love the way it showed up on the film.”

Kylie Pollert probably the coolest thing is that what we see in the video is around 10% Garth and 90% David Gant (yes, the band leader and keyboard player himself). Dave did all the overhead shots and the scene with the blue coming out on the hands and green on the feet. Garth mentioned on the VHS that as they were recording the collection, they had the Video of the Year award plaqued up and sent to Dave for his work.

Well it was technically never really released as single in the US, only internationally, and it only received Airplay in the US as an album track, which is weird. Obviously at this time anything Garth released was a top 10 country song, so it clearly didn't get much push by Garth's team as a US single, but why it wasn't especially with such a music video with it doesn't make a lot of sense. Would love to hear Garth explain that.

Sara Stiltner he’s done it during the housekeeping segment of someone has had a sign for it. He only does the first verse and chorus (as seen here), as he does for every housekeeping song.
