Making its return after a 15 year old hiatus, the #AudiA6Allroad is Audi's answer to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-terrain and is based on the all-new generation #AudiA6 introduced two years ago. The original #A6Allroad was known for being a worthy #Allroad alternative to SUV's in the early 2000's era and this new version with its electrified V6, standard air suspension, and tech heavy interior promises to deliver all the usual #Audi strengths we expect. It is pricier than most SUV's in this size class, but you'll be driving around in a vehicle that is far more unique. Long live the wagon.

Happy Friday everyone! Looking for the perfect family vehicle that isn't an SUV? Audi has been showing all you wagon lovers out there some love lately. We were smitten with the latest A6 Allroad and if you have $70k to burn on your next family car, you should buy one and keep wagons alive in America!

It's funny how tastes change in America, and how certain classes of vehicles seem to come and go. The standard wagon died decades ago and is only now being revived, although a few years ago Caddy gave us a taste of what was possible with the CTS-V wagon. Mini-vans were king of the hill all throughout the 80's and into the early 90's, but suddenly sales numbers cratered, and GM / Ford stopped making them altogether. Now they too are making somewhat of a comeback. The family sedan is the latest class to experience such an extinction event. I never thought I'd see companies like Ford and Chevy walk away from that segment, but I have a feeling that if you stick around long enough, the full size family sedan will likewise make a comeback.

This is the best looking wagon since the Cadillac made the CTS “V” wagon. Unfortunately, that was a one off for Cadillac and has been out of production. But the Audi Allroad has been being built the entire time. It just wasn’t being sold here in the states. That’s a shame too, as the Europeans know how to build great looking, extremely versatile wagons that get excellent as mileage. And their quality is second to none. This new Allroad has shot up my rather short list of cars that I’m interested in as a replacement for my current BMW 428i hardtop convertible. It’s my second BMW convertible in a row, so it might be time for something a bit different. I really enjoyed those old Ford wagons I had back when I was just a young pup. Yeah, most kids wanted a Mustang or a Camaro, but those wagons were much cheaper and far more useful, as I could haul all sorts of stuff, including plenty of buddies. When I was in the military I used to pile that car full of friends and we’d go off canoeing, scuba diving, or other fun stuff.

The 2023's do have the even better HD Matrix headlights, though those basic ones this car has are still pretty great. There is so much going on with these things that Audi doesn't even mention. Every one of them is a 48v mild hybrid, has rear wheel steering... all this stuff they are just casually not hyping up. Optional HUD, night vision, dual pane window glass, heated steering wheel. Crazy. The fact that you can option the heck out of it and still come in at the price of a moderately equipped Suburban is insane.

Until electric vehicles can get fully recharged in under 5 minutes and give me no less than 350 miles on a charge, plus the cost of replacement batteries drops to about a quarter of their current price, I’m sticking to gasoline powered vehicles. While there’s plenty to like about electric vehicles, there’s even more that I don’t like. I certainly like Audi’s Etron significantly better than anything Tesla makes, it still requires recharging. I don’t like that Tesla ships their cars with an adapter so they can be recharged practically anywhere yet absolutely REFUSES to allow other manufacturers to use their charging network. That’s akin to having gas stations that’ll only fill a specific brand of vehicles and no others. Imagine how many gas stations we’d have to put up with if everyone did what Tesla’s doing. Frankly, we need legislation to put a stop to their refusal to recharge other makes of electric vehicles. They need to release an adapter to all the other manufacturers so they too can use Tesla’s network, especially considering that Tesla doesn’t even own (most...they do own some of those locations, but not many) the property where their rechargers are located. Additionally, electric vehicles are using our roads for free. That has to stop. If you put gas in your car, you’re contributing to the cost of building and maintaining the roads through the gas tax which is a large chunk of the cost to refill your car. That tax hasn’t been added to charging stations as it should’ve been. That’s a cost that needs to be added in to the cost when an electric vehicle is recharged, whether that be in your garage or at a Supercharger station. Furthermore, electric vehicles are heavier than their gasoline powered counterparts, so they conduct more wear and tear on our roads.

I have always said that the A6 and all it's derivatives is where Audi's sweet spot is. The A6 range hides the FWD layout very well, unlike the A8 which looks terrible. Then there is the S6 and then the RS6 Avant and then this Allroad. It's a really perfect range of cars IMO. The only thing you have to get a RS7 for that sedan like thingy since there is no RS6 sedan. Love the RS7 also, all based on the same platform. Nice review. This Audi is beautiful and practical (if you can afford it). I've been cross shopping the Outback XT Touring, and the CX-5 Signature, along with a few other vehicles that all hover around the $40,000 mark, but this Allroad is the one I'd get if price was not a consideration.

Always thought Audi was among the best interiors. I would buy one in a minute if my wife weren't wedded to the even higher clearance of SUVs.....which we never need.

You do fantastic videos. I love a good wagon as well and wish we had more options but I know the US market doesn’t call for them. I haven’t found many Audi A4 Allroad videos that give the type of definitions and in depth reviews that you do. Sometime in the future would an Audi A4 Allroad review be a possibility? I want to take in as much information before deciding which wagon to buy once I start my family late this year, early next year.

I’m seriously thinking of getting one of these as my next vehicle - being retired I won’t likely lease because I’ll drive way too many miles - I would have liked to see your “Redline” score on this - and also to hear your opinion on the various vehicle maintenance plans that Audi has for these vehicles. Lastly - any blind spots when you drove? I like the wagon over the other models -
Thank you again for your consistently outstanding videos!

I love wagons. My very first car was a 1971 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon. My second was a 1976 Ford Torino wagon. I got that car when it had 93,000 miles on it and sold it after years of use and 180,000 miles on the odometer...for the exact same price I actually paid for it to begin with. It was a terrific car. I HATE SUV’s. They sit up too high making it hard to see the road ahead of them, as when I’m driving, I try to constantly scan 3-4 cars ahead of me as to what they’re doing so I don’t find myself ever having to slam on the brakes. My favorite cars are convertibles, of which I’ve owned 5. After convertibles comes coupes, than wagons. II find wagons to be more comfortable than sedans and more useful than an SUVs. Plus they get better gas mileage and handle better. They simply look better than SUVs as well. MUCH BETTER. This new A6 is a fantastic looking wagon. I WANT ONE!!!
