    Daniel, your ability to express yourself and put across your points is impeccable. It is a rare gift you have. Not many people are able to express themselves as beautifully as you are. Besides, your videos have a ton of valuable information and lessons to teach. I wish you the best and hope you find success in everything you do because the work you're doing here on CZcams is phenomenal and life changing. :)

    I was a young attractive white American girl traveling alone in Pureto Rico in the '80s. In a off beat town I stopped in a tavern for a cold drink. No one spoke English I barely spoke any Spanish. Everyone was eating big plates of food. A big plate of food appeared in front of me. I thought "shit, they think I have money and are going to force me to spend it here." Well, I ate it andwhen I finished i asked "quanto?" (How much?) The answer: "Nada." (nothing). Lesson learned: some of us American travelers are way more materialistic and judgmental than our hosts.

      @@The7dioses I sorta agree; just one correction... the average US stay-at-home American is likely incredibly kind hearted. It's the Average tourists that come from many nations and cultures that can carry the entitled attitude which can be rude and thoughtless (as often as not.) The tourist culture does not represent the kindness of America. ❤

    I don't quite agree. My parents and my ex are the "kind" people you wish to meet when you're travelling. And they'll be very nice to help you no matter it gonna cost them time or physical effort or money. But in fact they're Narcissists, they have done countless cruel things to me which "kind" or "normal" people wouldn't even do to strangers. Therefore I would say it's more likely leading to a conclusion "humanity is more complicated than people can imagine" :p

    • @bigcat797
      @bigcat797 Před 4 lety +9

      But they wouldn't harm strangers most likely. Since childhood traumas have everything to do with relationships, they show themselves in close relationships for the most part... So it may look like they're pretend, but it's not the case necessarily. And that doesn't mean they can't be kind or bad because it's just different sides of them that both are equally real, that different people experience.
      Yeah, people are really ambiguous. They can be kind to strangers and ugly to people close to them so to you they're evil and to those people they help they're kind. I guess, I can be one of those people, but I wouldn't say that those people are perfect themselves and that it wasn't mutual in my case. I'm very sorry about your experiences with your parents and ex. I see why you wouldn't trust people after having such experiences.

      I agree - the reality is, women do live in a world where we are physically at threat from men and we have the reality of an added danger - this is simply true. We live under patriarchy, males are physically stronger than females. There is a reason women tend to feel a specific fear that men do not. I would love to talk with and learn from someone who factors this reality in, with the reality that indeed, the world *is* much kinder than most people perceive, and a lot of fear *is* unsubstantiated; but that doesn't mean you ignore realities of the power indifferences in our world, biological sex being a large one

Healing trauma is a years long and very painful process, but the world doesn't give you time for that.

    It broke my heart when I was told that I couldn't go to France for a high school trip in 2005/2006. My Grandpa said he didn't want me to go because what if something bad happened and I was so far away from the US? Sigh. I've still never been. I definitely have a lot of fear that was instilled in me by others that I need to get over. I have plenty that I have instilled in myself too, though. Thanks for your videos :) they're extra interesting to me because right now I am 6 months into a 1 year DBT program. I think it is helping me learn to regulate my emotions better and cope in more positive ways. I got lots of satire, "real" warnings and bottom lip bites about what to "expect" in eastern europe - which was nothing of the sort, just as you say. People were very welcoming, very willing to help, warmly inclusive with strangers and foreigners. I can just imagine the nice old women doing you an exchange. Being hospitable is part of their deeply ingrained culture. Why do you think there is this immediate weird response when people don't really even know how it is or ever been to these places? Do they get this attitude from movies? Or where?

      Some serious studies by linguists found that speaking a foreign language makes your brain connect different associations with each word. A negative word like "wolf" is not threatening if you hear it "loup" in French, for example (from childhood fairy tales, etc.) Learning a second language creates brand new neural pathways and when those are switched on, you break out of your usual state of trauma. When everything is new and exciting, you are truly living in the moment "The Power of Now" and not stuck in the past or ruminating as usual.

      Repetition compulsion at play. People have their children before they deal with their own trauma. And then they inflict it on them(they are still responsible). But they dont have the same compulsion to do this to others. Its just easiest to do to children, they are the most vulnerable and dependent, which is sickening but true. Adult can always go away, or give you the same in return.
