    I got all my griddles in winter for price reasons for the inflation lately. I found that the hood is your friend if doing this in the winter to get the whole thing hot enough to burn off. Just be sure you open the lid from time to time because it does need oxygen for the polymerization process to complete. You'll notice when you first open the hood it's not smoking as much but in a second it all starts to smoke. But it'll allow the whole griddle including sides to get hot enough if it's really cold

      From this article
      he griddle will billow with smoke. That’s called “smoke point” and it takes about 30 minutes for your Blackstone to get there. So relax, grab a seat, and watch the smoke fly by. When all the smoke is gone, you can turn off the griddle.
      #5 Time for some extra rounds!
      Like a boxing ring, it’s hard to knock out your opponent in the first round. Same goes for the Blackstone and the tension between the oil and steel. One round ain’t gonna cut it. To make the best non-sticking and tasty surface your meals deserve, you’re gonna have to repeat the seasoning. So be patient and make it count. Grab your oil again, dab it on the griddle, and watch the heated smoke-fest again. You should stop when the griddle plate is dark brown, and that takes around 2 to 3 times.

    Running a brand new griddle on high, is a great way to permanently warp the griddle. Around 450 degrees is ideal. Running on high can get to 600 or even 700 degrees, and that’s way too hot.

    1. how long does it take to cool down so I can put it back in the truck? Don’t want someone to snag it while tailgating.
    2. Can I use this in the back of my tailgate or do o need to put it on a metal table?
    3. How often do I have to season it?

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  Před rokem +1

      To cool down, probably 30 mins maybe and yes this can sit right on the tailgate of your truck without any problems. I have used it on picnic tables before. As far as seasoning it, you will want to clean it after each use, then just apply a light coat of oil before covering it up. Treat it just like cast iron. Hope this helps!

      Check and see if the wire for the ignitor is to close or to far away and not producing a spark. If all that looks ok, unhook the hose from the propane tank for 10 to 15 seconds. that resets the regulator, and then reattach the hose and see if it works then.

      Yes, make sure it is seasoned before cooking on it, after that, just cook, clean and lightly oil and it is ready to cook again. Each time you cook, it adds more seasoning to the griddle, so no need to reseason. Congrats on buying this, I'm sure you love it.

      Nope, no need. I have never seen or heard of anyone seasoning the bottom of a griddle. My skillets and stuff yes, but no need on the bottom of the griddle. if it does rust some, it doesn't hurt it at all and it is not even recommended by Blackstone to season the underside. If you want to save time, it’s not necessary to shut the griddle down to cool between coats. It’s not going to affect the polymerization of the seasoning.
    I’ve seasoned dozens of cooking surfaces including cast iron, stainless, carbon steel, and even uncoated aluminum and never cooled between coats. I’ve never have had any issues with seasoning quality.

      Yeah, I've done it both ways too and your right, it really don't make a difference. So, I thought about showing another one I have done where I didn't cool between and it worked just as good.
