    Chris does amazing work on props. Because Chris does so many props (and the finish I've seen on them), I imagine he has some custom-made tooling to make the job go quicker. That said, you are already most of the way there on your learning curve and you are doing first-rate work.
    Here's a little trick I learned from Brian (Snowman) Buaas: Take an old pair of pliers and grind the faces of the jaws so that one is somewhat spherical and the other can get a good grip on it with no sharp edges. Brian then uses this "rounded" pliers to add cup or re-shape the curves on a blade. It works really well.

      Thanks, doc. I've spent the last 3 years modifying and testing different mods, and most of them didn't work as expected. Basically, I spent the past 3 years ruining props.
      Here lately I've been noticing less is more when it come to prop preparation.
      I have a pair of pliers I'm working on, almost got them right soon as I perfect them I'll share. 👌 cupping pliers

      I've been looking into heat treating Beryllium copper, annealing and quinch. I've hardened steel in the past with great success. Having a hard time finding what they use for the quinch once the prop is heated. Highly doubt it's the same oil used for steel hardening?

    • @Dr_Jet
      @Dr_Jet Před 10 měsíci

      @@IRONCLADRC There's an entire discussion on annealing and heat-treating BeCu on International Waters (it's one of the Snowman's tricks). Do a search and a ton of stuff will show up. It's generally heating for an extended period of time with a slow cool-down (no quench).

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  Před 10 měsíci

      Roger that! I've read a few articles, there's a couple different ways to go about it. I'll look into the annealing slow cook process. I have a few old Beryllium props I can do a test run with. Thanks.

    Hello Ironclad.
    I have owned the Veles 29 for a year and actually have no problems (all stock,speed is enough for me) It is also always serviced regularly. Now that I've seen this video, I took a look at the propeller. It looks just as uneven as the unprepared raw prop in this video. I have filed and sanded it a lot and it is now sharp on all edges. I have now ordered a balancer and will then do the finishing touches. Do you have a tip for me how I get the propeller polished to some extent? It is not made of the same material as the ABC propellers (copper?) where it is easier to get it polished. Greetings from Germany.

    Hey B. After having some time with the Oxidean Marine Wood Rigger what prop do you reccomend? I will be using it as a oval boat, not as worried about top speed. Just overall best. Thoughts?

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  Před 9 měsíci

      Best oval prop is an ABC H7, this prop is hard to find. I've found abc 1716 or 1616 are both awesome props for me in a small ovals.. I haven't really done any big open water ovals yet...

    what might work better for sharpening is the variety pack of nail filling sticks. Goes from 40 grit up to like 2000 grit in a kit from amazon. I cut them in half the long way to get them to bend easier to match the profil.e

    Interesting video Big B. I can see the difference in the Oxidean prop and the Ebay prop, but the main question is: does the Ebay prop perform less? Or better? What is the effect of the trailing edge thickness? I would be very interested to know. Keep up the good work ✌️

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately, it's the right-hand prop. The only way I'd be able to test it is to throw both on the df29 and see if it pulls one direction or the other. I think the biggest difference will be durability, the ebay blades are thin, more prone to breaking?

    • @Dr_Jet
