This video address the changes in the Civil Procedure Rules effective from 1 October 2023 with the creation of a new Intermediate Track and the creation of complexity bands for fast and intermediate tracks. This is really about reducing lawyers' fees! You will now never get more than a fixed amount for your legal fees if you win (or you will pay your opponent if you lose.) My view is it is going to force people with low value claims to do it themselves, or only use lawyers for key aspects of their case, but otherwise run the case.
There are exceptions of course and a number of other miscellaneous issues that are covered in the vlog.
Not such a relevant change for litigants in person - they do not have legal costs, after all - but they will still need to agree a complexity band in their directions questionnaire and they may later decide they want to use a lawyer at a later stage (or judiciously for an early stage, such as getting their statement of case right).

This is a welcome change! I think we were in danger of ambulance chasing like the US, especially when people are non the wiser on compliance and changes in rules.

The law system is moving away from one of being represented to representing yourself ( a litigant in person ).
We need protections in place no matter how small.

@@borntodoit8744 The problem is the predator solicitors who charge nearly £500 per hour to summarize your statement, and then want most of your compensation... we need to stop this kind of culture in its track. People are becoming bankrupt on the littlest of arguments
