there is a much easier fix for this - just add two additional screws left and right of the lock latch and the gap is gone - holds my glove box together since many years

The box is not fixed until you have a working light.

    Great video.
Have you ever replaced the climate control power module under the OBC ? I can't get it out yet its as shaky as a bad tooth. Don't want to break it just swap it out.
    Thanks.

I have not, check out my radio install video for something adjacent. I think the cubby isnt hard to pop out and you go from there.

I got it out. What a pain.

How to fix the soft opening or how it should work?

I'm not sure yes there is a soft opening I think I greased the mechanism while I was in there. Worst case scenario just get a new salvage part

At 6:09 you state the cylinder has to be between locked unlocked to remove. I don't think this is correct and I'm genuinely curious where you got this information since I don't see it anywhere else online. I removed two cylinders this last weekend: one from my old vent panel and one from a junkyard one for which I did not have the key. The former I removed in the unlocked position. The latter, I picked and locked and removed in the locked position. In another video (czcams.com/video/c6F6IQPOnok/video.html) the cylinder seems to be removed in the unlocked position.
The actual hard part of this task is spreading the tabs to enable the lock cylinder to come out. I used a flathead and twisted it then inserted a toothpick or sewing needle in between the plastic tab and the cylinder. I recommend wrapping the flathead in tape to avoid mangling the plastic.

interesting glad you found a step to skip. It was good to practice spreading the tabs on my original glove box in preparation for the keeper. Thanks for watching!

was it to keep the inserts in the tumbler from falling out?
