    so i was sitting hear thinking about how much i hated working on my E36 M3 on the ground, knees getting destroyed, swearing im done ever going through that again and i realized youve got it in the air. A car lift is insanely high on my priority list for when i start my next project. This actually looks pleasurable to do it your way lol.

  • @bcastromusic

    There was always a slight sag even when new, the sag could also be slightly uneven when new. There are three areas that contribute to the sag.
    1. The soft portion of the front glovebox starts to separate.
    2. The latch gets worn.
    3. The 'receiving' housing starts to lean slightly from the weight of the door and makes the door sag.
    You can still get those screw covers, and also a new glovebox door for $230.
    The peake R5 tool is nice for quick checking and resetting service indicator.. hooks up to connector in engine bay.
    I can one up you on that cassette... my M3 also came with a VHS tape.. I just left it in the glovebox all the years ;)

    It helps a lot to snap the cabin air filter at the break points for future installs. the filter will straighten back out once it's inside the housing. I've replaced mine a few times now and the process is pretty painless... although it does get easier each time you change it. :)

    An "OG" guy would totally appreciate the cassette tape. And if that's a Peake Research airbag reset tool, I'm interested in buying or renting it. Yeah, I need to do it. BTW, the cabin air filter is designed to be bent into 3 pieces for installation since I did this job yesterday. Kudos for finding the hidden plastic pin on the ductwork...wish I watched this YESTERDAY before I spent about 3 hours doing this job and replacing that cardboard piece of trim, a true PITA. Has to fit onto 2 "tangs" (on the firewall) hat fit into two cutout slots in the back of the cardboard. Now I got to find those two trim piece covers. If you're OCD, well, you KNOW you got to have them.

    @brianaust8897 Před 2 lety

    I just did this, minus the new door(pretty sure it’ll be easy enough in the car) and it is very satisfying to watch this again afterwards lol. One area that really stumped me was the separation of the cylinder lock surround to get it out! I put a large flathead in a vise to have an extra hand holding one while I hand twisted the other and finally got it to pop out. I totally forgot the key trick though and lost two or three clips in the cylinder and had to re-insert, while trying to get it back in 😆🤪. But then the key worked so 👍
    The lineup wasn’t as great without the door unlocked as when it is locked. That helps a lot.
    But man it is a feeling of accomplishment to hav this and the filter done. Mine was filthy!!
    I also loved the note about raising the car some. I have a lift and the height really helps a lot.

    If that is a "soft open" glove-box, there is likely an air cylinder attached to one of the door levers which is causing a lot of that squeaking noise. I assume lubricating that would get it working silently.
