  • This is a personal project to add to my portfolio as a 3D environment artist. I am making no money off of this and is purely fan made. Yes, flying cars in 40k is Heresy! But it's a nice touch for employers XD

    This is most likely the best Warhammer 40k animation I've ever seen.
    The Emperor protect me. This is really good work you have done.
    Subscribed to your channel and look forward for more of these.
    Would be nice if you added like a platoon of Mordian guard marching on some street. Not that often people think of them so if anyone should create them it should be you.

    I think you should get into contact with the guys making The Lord Inquisitor. They would gladly bring you onto the team. Also if Games Workshop sees your work then they will let you continue animating 40k because your work is amazing. Thats what happened with the guys making The Lord Inquisitor

    I love your Ultramarine, it looks great and not so cartoonish. Probably the most Grimdark i've seen!

    You are already aware of the flying car mistake. also feel free to use a different chapter then ultramarines hehe
    now for some positive notes: you need to be hired by someone to make a 40k series or something (and put it on netflix or something!) because this is great! minor mistakes aside, this is the stuff fans want and would pay for!

    For some reason, the bolter seems to be WAY too big when the marine is holding it down by his side.

    • @marklouisspark
      @marklouisspark  Před 9 lety +2

      +Grubnar That's what happens when you have a gun shaped like that haha. I've tried different sizes as well with it, this one is the best proportionaly. I guess its just not normal seeing a space marine holding one down like that sicne they're always gripping it with 2 hands. Also the cameras lens kind of skews the scene a bit so that would also play a factor in it "looking" so big.

    Get rid of the flying cars and it would be perfect. Stuff like that is incredibly rare in 40k.

    Honest opinion, the city looked too 'clean. 40k black library books give off visions of vastily overpopulated mega hives. Dingy, dark, polluted. This was far to clean and video games. Just being honest.

    • @marklouisspark
      @marklouisspark  Před 5 lety +2

      Just wait for death of hope buddy, this was later after me graduating with a span of a year not touching 3d modelling programs, and to be honest i thought it was dirty at the time lol, I wasn't very good when it came to making things look like shit in terms of gritty, slum, pollution etc.. Man, some people have no idea how far I've come XD. Even back then it doesn't matter how much feedback I had, this was my best work at the time it was done.
      Vastly over populated... Sorry man but this was done in 3 months with NO experience and modelling starting out took a lot longer than it does now. You expecting civilians like I had in the trailer is just BS. with me not having done professional modelling at the time a human civilian could have taken me 2 months to make 1. Space marines are easier to model which is why there is one in the video. The grim life of a hive city's full aesthetic of how it is envisioned in artwork and in books, with my experience at that moment in time, was a 6 month process. I would have MISSED my opportunity to get my first gig if that was how far I took it.
      After graduation I went to EA for 3 months doing motion capture, then was dropped after contract. Getting back in was rough so I had to take up a dishwashing job. During the time I was dishwashing for 8 months, then found a job at rainmaker but as a lighting artist. Did that for a year and it was NOT what I wanted to do. it was difficult because my demo reel was not representing anything of interest towards games, so I decided to try pumping something else out which was this video in order to get an actual gig.
      Video games? GOOD! this was meant for me to be in games because that's what i invested 40 thousand dollars to go to school for! :D And here I am! Working in games!
      I'm in a far better position now with modelling to properly represent the universe. You wanna see some shit? death of hope Prologue.

    • @marklouisspark
      @marklouisspark  Před 5 lety +1

      Actually, it's good that you mentioned your opinion. I will make this video unlisted since people like you come in here and think this is present work and that i should have done better. Looking at it yeah it looks like shit but it is a relic of my progress.

      @@marklouisspark My apologise mukka, didn't realise that was early work. Oh trust me mate, I've been a massive reader of black library for a while now, the 'mark of calth' is one of my favourites of the series. And your 'death of hope' teasers and clips are gorgeously made. I don't think I've anticipated a film more than yours. Especially after you compare your visuals with GW 'Ultramarines' films. They put a huge budget behind it and paid for well known british actors for voice overs and it sadly looks cheap. I u understand your doing the whole thing on your own in relation to the models and animation, and it's difference is like day and night! I've seen many fan videos but yours us the best by far and you chose the best period of the 40k histories, during the midst of the heresy and the attack by the hated word bearers on their bible brothers of the ultramarines legion. Cannot wait for the finished work. Any idea on how you'll script the dialogue? I've always liked the style of script written by the team who worked on the 'Sparticus: Blood and Sand series, via the 'Starz' studio (just without the profanity, lol) as it gives that unique dialogue exchange. I've read a bit of a short story in the 40k universe in this manner and it just fitted perfectly. Might be worth looking into. But hats off to you sir, your project has to be one of THE most anticipated projects ever! ( also if you need any voice acting, I did 4 years at performance art school, just saying lol)
