I've got a nice tip for organizing! You can actually name bags keeping them seperate. So, in mid-game I usually use Duffle bags, later moving on to Large Backpacks. This is really helpful when I move to a new base (Fresh Food bag takes priority to move before Book Bag 😅).

But before I get a car or start establishing a base what I like to do is gather from a house all the things that will be useful for me later on (books, canned food, specific tools, extra weapons, etc.), stash them in a trash bag and drop it on the street to easily pick up when I have where to stash it ❤️

I recently died on a good run by a car crash and I got a glass shard in my neck and I bled out in like 1 seconds. I think the car crash got me down to like 10% health left and then glass in my neck just killed me instantly 1 second later. I have the keybind to open health pannel to tab and I even opened the healthpannel just before I crashed (I kinda saw it comming but also didnt since I was driving way to fast in my sportscar)
Anyway does that really make a big difference? I generally use dextrous and does it make a difference??? Garbage bags! Take garbage bags if you have a vehicle. Fill them with your loot and toss them into your trunk. It's way faster to unload than moving things from your backpack. They also help presort your loot for easier unloading at your base. It's extremely easy to just grab a bag full of food and bring it directly to your kitchen. They weigh next to nothing so you can keep a stack of them in your glove box.
I prefer them to duffle bags because they are multi use and very light weight. When you accumulate a bunch of them they can become water collectors.

Containers only reduce weight when they're equipped. By keeping things in containers in your trunk you're unnecessarily taking up more trunk space and adding an extra step to accessing items, but I do appreciate the role playing. Tools in a tool box, medical supplies in a med kit, I get it.

I carry these things on me at all times:
Back slot: Crowbar for prying doors (common sense mod) & combat.
Left & Right slot: Hammer and Screwdriver for dismantling doors.
Backpack slots (this is from a mod): First aid kit with medical supplies, and container containing tons of thread and leather strips to repair The Postal Dude's jacket I wear. I also keep a wind-up flashlight for combat, as the power ran out. The utility slot has a mouse plushie (Known as the """cat toy""") because it looks adorable, and my username reflects that.
Main Inventory: Spoon & fork for the unique eating animation, 2 water bottles (bourbon bottle variant), a razor & scissors for putting my hair back into shape, as well as an acoustic guitar, as the Lifestyle Mod allows me to use it to remove my stress, boredom, and unhappiness. I also keep at least 5 full bottles of Vitamins in order to combat fatigue, and one of my traits (Vitamin Junkie from the "Even More Traits" mod) makes the vitamins much more useful for endurance recovery. I also keep the basics like a saw, needle, a snack or 2, knife, other things for crafting recipes, as well as a few comic books to combat depression.

I play with organized all the time. This gives fanny pack 2 space instead of 1. If you have 2 you have 4 spaces for essential items. What I always carry, just always. No matter what.
    fanny packs are
-40 sigarettes, (I top then off to 40 every once in a while and I keep my extra in bag but store them at base)
-lighter (not matches since you cant light molotovs with them)
    -3 bandages (preferably sterilized)
    -cottonballs douced in alcohol
    -painkiller
    -beta blocker
    -vitamins
    -sucher needle
    -sucher needle holder
    -chips or chocolate
    -eraser
-cryons (its all 4 color pens in 1 you can carry every color pen its the same weight but cryons is 1 item)
This should fill both fanny packs pretty well. I use left over space for maybe spare gloves or some small food or maybe more bandages.
    My bag
    -Flashlight
    -hammer (sometimes on my belt)
    -saw
    -screwdriver
    -wrench
    -crowbar
-at least 3+ spare water bottles
My car (if I am going with one)
    -jack
    -lugwrench
    -spare watter bottle
-small food like chocolate or chips
    -can opener
I favorite all those items and its just what I at bare minimum carry with me. I always like to have all the tools on me. Its always nice to build something on the spot (like baracading a window) the screwdriver and wrench are needed for basic car mechanics and its just nice to have everything with you at all times. I usually find food along the way or I bring something but this is just my pure pure basic loadout. Ofcourse I carry weapons but that is just basic standard. Also in a pinch I sometimes use my hammer or something as backup but I also ALWAYS have a crowbar on hand. I often like to go longblunt so crowbar can be switched out since it has a ton of durability and you shouldnt really need a backup if your crowbar is like 50+% full...
For my cars I like to collect every lug wrench and jack I find and I just dump them in my truck and just always keep them in there. In my glove box I just always put a spare water bottle and food and can opener. My cars are always somewhat prepared and it helped me so much. Its the worst thing when you are out somewhere and you need to look for a stupid jack or something to repair a tyre. It has hapened to me and its annoying. I rather be a little bit over prepared and 9/10 dont need it but that one time you do, you are glad you took them with you...

I actually have a system very similar to yours. I keep a military poncho in my ruck in case it rains, as well as a gas mask if I'm spending time around a lot of corpses for an extended period. Came in handy while I was clearing the surplus store on the west end of the map. Also I'm a crowbar main. :P "Common Sense" mod makes it too useful for getting into locked cars, houses, garages or warehouses. Plus it's damn near indestructible.
I always have 2-6 sterile bandages in my medical even though I've never needed more than 2 unless I was getting dragged down by a horde. Sometimes you need to swap bandages a couple times on the way to your base. Adhesive band-aids are nearly worthless though, I just keep one so I don't use a good bandage for a scratch. Alcohol wipes are a great thing to keep so wounds don't get infected.
I'll take one or 2 light(not cans) non-perishables with me plus 1 or 2 bowls of salad or stew to make use of perishables and stretch out the non-p, plus my can opener when I find something on a trip and get hungry.
I highly recommend levelling up tailoring as well. You can boost your defence immensely with lvl 10 tailoring, leather patches and some strategic layers. The "Recut" mod also allows you to add or remove some insulation(and wind and water res.) from clothes so you won't over heat so fast. Need to level up tailoring to do it though. Also, "Invisible Patches" will keep your drip so you don't have to live with ugly brown patches all over your fit.

suture needles dont need thread. only need thread with regular needles to stitch. weight reduction does not work on tool boxes, duffle bags etc unless they are equipped. that 65% weight reduction does not happen in the trunk. HOWEVER seats that have a max weight of 20 when loose, but large bags (max weight 27) can go into an empty seat, breaking that limit. same with jenny's, water cooler towers etc. Duct tape is the king for stabbing weapons, not Wood glue. machete gets 50% repair with duct tape when maintenance is at 0 and gets larger every 2 levels. same for hunting knives.

  • @Moredread25

The thing that I discovered about Zomboid is that you actually want to keep most of your constant carry inventory in your main bag. I'm playing with some mods that allow one to modify bags for extra storage and/or weight reduction but one that also allows nesting of bags, but not Brita's, so I'm not sure this advice is universally applicable, but I'm pretty sure in the base game the backpacks have better reductions than fanny packs, and is true of most other setups unless one has some specific mods.
Basically, because your main backpack will give greater weight reduction than your fanny packs, or with mods other things one can wear in those positions, you want to put everything in your main bag. I actually have an slightly smaller bag inside of that one where I've put all of my must carries and can use the excess space in my main bag plus my fanny packs as I'm going looting so I don't have to mess with sorting through stuff I'm trying to keep and the stuff I'm going to dump immediately. I also put the medical and tailoring supplies I carry for emergency patches in their dedicated cases which go into my must carry bag previously mentioned. Because the main bag gives a greater weight reduction, I found my calculated weight to be lower after moving everything to this system instead of keeping some things in fanny packs, because drawing them from there seems no faster or slower than drawing from a backpack. I intuitively also used this system because in real life would want these things accessible, but the game does not reward this.
I like your list. The long distance traveling in Zomboid is one of the trickiest things; securing new bases outside of your starting town I find really hard. Maybe I should start carrying more spare parts.

Most weapon mods will allow you to customize weapons, with things like flashlights, sights, silencers and more

BRUHHHHH WHY PLAY SOLO LIKE A LONELY SAD BOIIIII.
For real, though, online with mods is how we roll nowadays. There is no sense in facing the dread of the degradation of humanity alone when we can choose to be kings, queens, or other royalties of the end of the world.
When looting, AMMO AMMO AMMO AMMO AMMO AMMO, lil bit of food, lil bit of dat drank(alcohol), and a bit of med supplies. We all eventually gonna participate in a round of Remington therapy in a 12 gauge diversity followed up by a quick Smith and lesson ranging through various millimeter increments.

maybe dont make your videos around the presumption that the person watching is just going to always going to pick the traits that you tell them to. If you're making a guide video, then the information should be flexible and easily applied to a verity of playstyles, unless you are showcasing a certain playstyle.
also videos like this WILL be found by PZ beginners, and if you start confidently asserting traits as a 'must have', which you basically did at the start of the video, you're going to guide them into thinking that there is a "right" way to play project zomboid, and they'll be less inclined to experiment with character creation.
I may be being slightly uncharitable, but thats just how i felt seeing that bit

True, but at the same time, those traits are probably gonna be the most helpful for them while they're still learning. Also, i think the information here can be applied still even if u dont pick the traits he told u to

Those, who can select their traits themselves, don't look any guides. If you need guide about essential items, then you definitely want to ease your life.

That is a pretty comprehensive list and one very similar to my own. The only variation I tend to have from yours is I use a mod allowing me to wear a duffle-bag on my lower back in addition to my backpack. This is where I often keep all of my tools and crafting equipment, freeing up almost the entirety of my backpack for loot.

Ok thats VERY niche but having a secondary belt weapon(s) will save you if you have a schizophrenia trait from mod, my char dropping his main weapon because of hallucinations during intense melee combat happened too many times to count

Personal preference; I keep a knife on my belt so I can take a zombie down more quietly. The weight is fairly insignificant and the utility is worth it to me.
