    I have many of there plates and love them, I always just break mine in with use. And these seem to last a good while the 2+6 ,3 plates for only 50$, imho breaking them in just strips life from them, I don’t mind them being super coarse for the first few sharpenings

    Nice glad to see you back at it man. I've been waiting for this video for awhile and initially I was disappointed but relieved alittle when it was just high spots. I'm glad the stones are working out for you and hopefully they outdue the dmts. In all fairness too you did say coarse lol I was thinking of that 2200 or 3000 wondering how they are as well. Wishing you all the best if we don't see you before the upcoming holidays man and hopefully the stones serve you well.

    Hey Rough Rooster...I am a new subscriber. Your videos are excellent for us beginners. I have watched your oldest video first and have been working forward to your most recent video. I am looking forward to 2021 videos. I have already put your knowledge to use. In one video you mentioned keep away from company called NATURAL WHETSTONE company here in Arkansas, I had just ordered their Black Arkansas. You were right the stone compared to a DANS is o.k. but I also received a DANS Black and Translucent. DANS are much better stones no doubt. So I was getting ready order DMT diamond plates and saw your post on ULTRA SHARP. I ordered the 3 ultrasharp diamond plates. Thanks Gene Brown

    Would you reccommend the 2200 grit stone for use with pocket knives? I just picked up the 600 and 1200. They cut great but seems like the blade isnt cutting as smoothly as it should. Or might that just be part of the break in? I used an old stone to break them in like you show in this video.

    I have the same spot on my coarse "stone". It seems like a too large particle. I have not used mine yet. I hope mine breaks down some otherwise it will leave a scratch. I would not use it to flatten another wetstone due to the particles. I thought about hitting it with a screw driver tip.

  • @kcb5150
    @kcb5150 Před 3 lety +1

    I was thinking about those till some greenhorn who quit on trying to sharpen sold me an almost unused d8xx and d8x for nearly nothing given retail. Couldn't come soon enough, my coarse plates were dead and I was lifeboating on big old crystolons. The qc on the xx is not great imo, but the 8x is fine. I may relegate the xx just for lapping other things. They have been making dmt so long they should all leave in a good condition. I have a soft spot for eze laps, but I hate their wood base and the lip. The strangest feeling diamond plates made by someone with a name are probably the lansky ones. The feel is so inconsistent. They work but are so unprogressive in terms of feedback.

    Ultra Sharp are the bees knees ! Great customer service and very good quality; I also picked up the 2200 and 3000 grit plates just to have and love them. DMT is horrible I bought several plates from them and they were either pitted or peeled off; customer service is non existent - they took down my information and never called me back... I only have one DMT plate and thats the 8000 plate. I ordered my ultra sharps through bestsharpeningstones.com. Hope you enjoy the plates as much as I do ! • @TheCrajiboi

    im pretty sure the ultra sharp plates are courser than the dmt's - even though they have same grit rating, the micron sizes are a little different - dmt has their own grit rating but the ultra sharps follow the JIS - so even when they are completely broken in they will still be courser than the dmt counterparts - also i think ultra sharp also comes from china

      @@michaelshults7675 It was close to the same as dmt. It is broken in now and seems close enough to 600 grit. But I can't really do a side by side comparison because my dmt 600 is pretty worn out at this point. With diamond plates if you want to you can just break them in with a random chunk of steel. Just keep going until it is cutting the way you want. My old dmt 325 cuts like it's 800 grit at this point.

    I have this same set of stones, and I'm impressed with them. I think they are heads above DMT stones, or at least the ones they've been putting out recently. Better quality at a lower price is hard to argue against The only question I can't answer is how they hold up over time, because I've only had them a few months now.
