- This is my last evening class after 18 years of teaching for Tresham College back in March 2020 before the world changed. This video is to inspire people to retrain as an electricians' or domestic installers. Training to become an electrician is never easy but hats off to anyone that undertakes training whilst holding down a full time job and responsibilities.
Videos are training aids for City and Guilds (C and G) and EAL courses Level 1, 2, 3 plus AM2, AM2S and AM2E.

I re-trained at the age of 29 best thing I ever done, and hating my job before that and thinking I’d left it too late, especially when the haters tell you you’re too old and the general negativity from people who probably hate their own jobs and haven’t got the bollocks to make a change.
Did you go via the apprenticeship route or did you become an electricians mate?
Great Video, end of an Era, but the start of a new Journey. You've always been a great source to support and guidance over years and will be sadly missed.
Thanks David 🦾💕🦾 magic times… not stopping teaching on CZcams just in the classroom day to day 👍🏻.
All The The best,. Marry Christmans and a Happy New Year from România!

Thanks for the support 👍🏻 I have over 50 videos edited and ready for release… I am not stopping anytime soon 😃
I think you will leave a very long and lasting impression on those students Gaz, I am 61 now and regret not retraining as these students are doing... ended up stuck at a desk on a laptop. I am enjoying watching your great tutorials.
Thanks Chris for the message and support - I will still be producing content for CZcams in the coming years and with my eFIXX adventure going into colleges up and down the country but my day to day teaching is on pause 👍🏻. Thanks again Gaz
All good things come to a end , you have done a superb job on here … I have just retired ( in august)..seen so many changes in the job .. the tools have got better, equipment makes the job easier as well … ok still have my old wind up megger, ( kept it as a memory piece)…and I enjoy watching your stuff , and others on here ..my back ache has settled down
Now low no more lofts , or small cubby holes. … I’ve enjoyed it but I think I deserve my rest .. good luck ..
All the best in retirement enjoy every moment
I was working 90 hr work weeks while going to class 8 hrs as well. I was super driven to be a master electrician and get my electrical engineering degree at the same time. In 2016 I fell off a ladder which was just a freak accident. I had a severe concussion and still have vertigo even to this day. What fucked me up wasn’t the physical injury. My ex left me and the house we just moved into because I was struggling with bills after my injury. I moved and tried to keep doing electrical work but my drive and confidence were completely shot. I got fired from a really great company and that just fucking did me in. That was in 2017. I still really miss the work. I miss working with my hands and learning something very difficult. I just don’t know how to start again. I have zero belief in myself.
One step at a time. Just keep moving forward. Good luck.
same happened to me- fell from tree, 2019. landed on my head due to vertigo i didn't know i had. Spine broken- damage to neck and shoulders. no power left, cannot use my left hand. just pain . I would love to retrain as electrics are so interesting but it is not just the physical pain and damage. i am not the man i was- really- but i cannot tell anyone- i'm ashamed of what i have become.
@@tutnallman Working a tough trade already makes you twice the man most dudes claim to be. You’re not limited from learning all there is to learn and applying your knowledge in another capacity. Don’t be ashamed. Most dudes are too cowardly to enter into a hard vocation. Do you have people around you that love you and care about you? If you want to talk I’m here to listen. You’re not alone brother.
I've just seen your posts Enterprise and Steve, I'm in the same spot although much less painful, I'm training to become a sparks, after working all day, a family needing attention at home, wondering if I have the confidence to get qualified, let's never give up gents, maybe you guyscojld start small doing odd jobs, testing is less physical.
God bless ya for the future. Ben from the Uk
Sorry jade !! 😂 thanks again gaz !!
Glad you found the upload Jason 👍🏻
Hi Gaz love the videos. Do you no longer do any in person teaching anymore?
I will continue producing CZcams teaching content for many years to come but I stopped face to face teaching back in April 2020. Massive thanks for the message Gaz 👍🏻
@@GSHElectrical You can only spend your time ones Gaz ! Still you make great content.
I'm a 38 year old Australian woman, going to Uni was pushed heavily and trades weren't when I was in school. I never did either and I have had a really spotty employment history as a result.
I am starting my Cert II in January, to get licensed you have to do the Cert III which is part of an apprenticeship. I am doing my Cert II to try and show I am keen for a mature age apprenticeship (government subsidises your wage if they hire you). I am nervous about everything but I am really interested in becoming a spark.
Good luck to you. It’s a worthwhile trade.
Another great video. Please could anyone advise how much experience is needed to start a level 2 2365 course? I have completed a "domestic installation workshop" which looked at ring final, radial, lighting circuits (one-, two- and intermediate-switching), as well as a basic introduction to inspection and testing. There are three more weeks, but is it worth doing or jump straight in to level 2? Cheers for any advice!
In my colleges adults need no experience or set grades to take on a Level 2 👍🏻. Gaz
I'm 52 and have a basic knowledge of domestic installation as I did about a year as an electrical apprentice when I was 18 but obviously I'm dumb in the regulations. Is it too late for me to retrain?
Never 2 late if you want to do it 👍🏻
Nice one gaz 👍 gaz I’m wanting to retrain to become an electrician what course and qualifications do I need to become a domestic installer, I understand I would not be a proper time served sparks, but as an adult learner I’m very keen to learn and interested in the electrical industry. Nearest college for me would be skipton but if I did have to travel further for better education I would.just scared of going on a course and not getting “fully educated”and come out with a bit of paper that says ,,your a sparky now 😂 if you know what I mean.id love to have somebody like you as my tutor 👍👍 any info or advice would be much appreciated

This qualification gets you to dwelling installer 👍🏻.
@@GSHElectrical nice one cheers gaz 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Has the comment been deleted as I can’t see it? Really interested about the same thing what has been asked by @king
Silly question. Can you be an electrician when you are red/green colourblind?
Yes 👍🏻
Do you have any info on the experienced worker assessment?
Look up AM2E 👇🏻

What the hell is a dwelling installer when he's at his dwelling.

Has there been any point in your life when there hasn't been some virus or other going round ? What's new ?
