  • This is a (very) brief video of my process of grinding an embossing stylus for cutting records on my record lathe, the frequency response seems to be up to 13khz under normal cutting conditions through my RCA-MI4887 clone cutting head.
I've have, however tried cutting a 16kHz test tone which was drawing about 1A and it's certainly there on the playback.

These embossing stylus will be available for purchase soon!
I am also releasing a cutting head, it's based off a Presto 1-D and heavily tested with embossing.
I will release a video soon.

Hi, I'm talking to you from Argentina. What sound power do you need to record?

hi, i came across the forum until i found this video, nice one... the lapidary table seems to be fine to do the job.. what do you think after 1 year of using it ? thx

There was a bit of a learning curve, there's a little bit of checking with each grind. I'm using a relatively coarse lap, I've got some diamond paste on the way, and it'll be interesting to see how if surface finish changes the frequency response and noise floor.
I'm currently looking for a more precise machine as I'd like to attempt grinding diamond cutting stylus, but the closest thing off the shelf I can find is a D Bit grinder.
The other option is to make some sort of mount for my metal lathe.

@@urieldeveaud no problem! I've just reclaimed a mini / watchmakers lathe..I'm thinking that might be a better way to do it. I will try to keep this channel updated!
