    • @gnwf3980
      @gnwf3980 Před rokem +8

      @@LK-pn5rx you really shouldn't do that. This is an unphysiological position for the cat and can lead to many problems, especially in old age when the cat will slowly not be able to defecate and will fall inside. does not allow the cat to practice its normal toilet habits, which causes stress and behavioral problems. You don't have a very good way of controlling whether the droppings are healthy and free of parasites. And the most important thing is that you can get parasites from a cat and vice versa

      Thanks again for the kind words! When Mia doesn't want to train it's usually for 1 of these 3 reasons:
      1) Too hungry to "play" to get a few treats - Solved by training 2/3 hours after they have their meal
      2) Not hungry enough to do stuff for food - Solved with stopping free feeding
      3) Too energetic - Solved with playtime first

She’s just a kitten (3 months) but she’s my first cat so I’m hoping this is just kitten behavior but when she’s older I hope she doesn’t continue to climb and bite me - it’s a bit scary for me just imaging a fully grown cat biting me.

      I think what you are saying here is important. Cats are seen in a different way than dog's so we don't even think about training them. My mum had like 20 cats when I grew up. We didn't train any of them. As an adult I worked with dogs and horses and then training is the main part of the relationship. So when I got my cat, she was dumped in my apartment, I treated her very much like a dog in the beginning, because I didnt know how cats worked. I took her to the vet being worried about not having the proper papers from a breeder, what if they wouldn't do the health check, chipping and castrating if I couldn't prove I was the owner..? Turns out, that in my country you can pick up any cat without a chip and claim it as yours. That would be unthinkable with a dog or a horse. And many cats arent registraited on anyone. we have about 150 000 homeless cats, but we pretty much dont have any homeless dogs.
      I also walked her on a leash, I gave her food 3, 4 times a day, no free feeding, I trained her to sit before she ate and I thought her to stand still when I put on clothes and a leash, I said no go to bed, when she was naughty. 😂 Didnt work though. Now I have bought a proper cat tree, cat toys/wands, she walks outside on her own etc But I think It was good I didnt know how to treat her in the beginning, because I find we have a better relationship than most cats and cat owners. I can take her with me on trips, she comes running when I call her. Life gets easier when she isnt a scared cat hiding under the bed. I think we would raise cats value as pets if we saw them a little bit more like dogs. 🙂

      Don’t play with them with your hands and play with a toy. Or if you notice they feel like biting, redirect them to a toy they can chew on. When kittens are teething and they’re losing baby teeth and getting new adult teeth they’ll be teething, and they’ll feel like biting or chewing on something to help that pain. If you wonder where the baby teeth, chances are your kitten is eating them and thats normal too. We were just lucky to find a little bit of her baby teeth to keep.

    My cat is almost 3 months old and, thanks to your videos, I thought him to sit. My goal is to teach him self-control with food, we're far from it, but we'll get there I hope. He had a compulsive obsession for food, even after feeding him, he would jump on the table and start eating ANYTHING that was available in his reach. He would meow obsessively, and we had to close him in another room in order for him to not "suffer". He was found on the street, near a car, he probably went inside the engine because he was dirty with car oil. Since I tought him to sit, he's learned the word NO, and he's become a lot more patient. Also, after feeding him, he no longer jumps immediately, sometimes he just sits and doesn't bother at all, I'm so happy about the progress we've done in just 2 weeks. So THANK YOU 1 MLN TIMES! Ciao from Italy 🐈

    My cat she was very smart and easy to train. She would sit, lay down, stay, come, roll over all on hand commands. She did all of these tricks without treats or rewards other than me saying what a good girl she is. She would also fetch. When I was paralyzed from a car accident my cat if she heard a noise would run to the door and growl and guard my home. She would go for car rides in my car. I could take her on public transit with her harness and leash and she loved it. She would go for walks. Greet people at our door. The bond I had with my cat was simply amazing. I miss her dearly. ❤

    Hi Albert, I absolutely love your videos. Thanks so much for making them. We have a 6 month old male bangle named Miko. With your training techniques he now responds when called and follows to where we want him to go. Now working on sit command, he is definitely coming along and starts getting the point but keeps trying to grab it with paws. Any suggestions how to get him to stop swinging his paws?

    Thanks for this video:). I’m so excited to train my cat too🤗.I have 2, 6 y/o and 3 months old , for now my 2 and 6 y/o they know how to open the window (our window has a screen and glass that can be swipe) and we use to close the window just the screen every daytime. My mom doesn’t know about this , then one day when one of my cat open the window and she thought someone break into our house when she hear the window opening, and when she turn around my cat was looking -meowing at her asking for food😂😂😂😂

    Your channel is a goldmine for new cat owners like me! I hope you make a video soon about training a cat to use the litterbox using clicker training.

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  Před 3 lety +2

      Great suggestion! A quick answer, because I guess you need some help now and not in a few weeks...
      1) Try having more than one litter box.
      2) Keep them always clean (at least 1ce a day)
      3) Make sure your cat knows where it is.
      4) Make it accessible
      Once all of the above has been crossed off the list:
      - Whenever your cat uses it or stays on it, say "good boy/gir" or click. Then reward
      - If you see your cat doing their things elsewhere, pick them up and place them on the litter box. Click, then reward.
      - If there's some carpet or soft surface where they usually do it, take it and palce it where the litter box is.
      I hope this helps!

    Thee MOST IMPORTANT TRICK I needed for my 3 kittens is how I need them to trust me of holding them from a spot or place they find themselves stuck on stupid. The first encounter my kittens were high on the attic level of garage. They first freaked out when I got hold of them to put down so I made sure I did it slowly and even backing up a step for them to figure it out. So the very next time around they knew exactly why they calling for me for now, they stay still without the claws fringing and hairs standing up. Its so important to teach them this over the ones that make you smile for its more for overall safety between your cat and their IQ.

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  Před rokem

      Absolutely! There's a trick you can use in those cases. Should Training! I have a video in the channel talking about that trick!

    Just found this channel, your videos are really helpful! Im looking into getting a bengal cat very soon and am very excited to train it up.
    One question is, do they have to be of a certain age to be clicker trained this way or can it be done as kittens when first brought home?

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  Před 3 lety +3

      I'm so glad! Kittens under 12weeks of age can get confused with clicker training if you go too fast too soon.
      I try to recommend "Come When Calles" and "Finger Targeting" as the 2 first tricks. For 2 reasons:
      1) They are easy tricks that won't compete agains each other (your cat won't get confused)
      2) They are going to create strong fundamentals to build the rest of the training upon.
      From 14/16 weeks you can start teaching the rest of the tricks, one at a time :)
      Best of luck!

    • @cinziadam2990
      @cinziadam2990 Před 3 lety +3

      Check Jackson Galaxy videos, there's one about it. As far as I understand is better if you don't let your cat play with your hands (but rather toys) and trim nails regularly. Maybe use the clicker to reinforce when you do what usually make the cat bite/scratch you and cat stays quiet instead(you teach a different reaction). Unless is things like touching their belly, then just don't do that haha. I hope it helps ^^

    Thanks a lot for the insightful content! My cat already automatically sits down every time she sees me with cat food, I am not really sure how to teach her to sit in that case. I tried going straight to the lying down trick, but she does not seem to get my point. She thinks she has to tap my hand to get the treat. Thats probably because giving a fist bump was the first trick I taught her. She also knows finger pointing and sitting pretty. Any ideas on what to try?

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  Před 3 lety +1

      For the down command, moving your fingers further will make your cat either walk towards you or lay lower. That might make it.
      Another trick you might want to try (in this video) is stay. Trying to get further and further from them, even out of reach. It's cool to see how much you can challenge them. :)
      I have a tutorial to get them jump on your shoulder if you are interested, it's very cool (my favorite trick so far)

    My cat immediately goes into a sit position when I have treats so (before watching many videos) I taught her “Gimme paw” “Hop up” and “High five” hop up means to stand on back paws.
    How I started was with Gimme Paw I’d grab her paw and reward her, and I’d do that a few times not releasing her paw until she finished the treat. Then I’d raise the bar she would have to put her paw in my hand, at first I would meet her halfway and reward her but soon I wouldn’t reward her unless she put her paw fully in my hand. The other two were a similar story. I’m working on her mastery of these before teaching her others.

    • @doloresshelton5573
      @doloresshelton5573 Před 2 lety

      That is so cool. I have been working on my cats. So far sitting is automatic for two of them the third is progressing well. They no longer fly at me or the food bowl when it feeding time which is a plus. I have tried to get the other two to high five or fist bump using the cup method, but they lose interest very quickly I will definitely have to try your method. Is there any other tips or tricks you could provide?

    • @doloresshelton5573

      Also I have trouble with one of the kittens paws. I often have to clip her nails while she is dozing off. I try and pet her paws while she is eating and it seems to help a little but she is still cautious of me holding her paws.

    Training a cat is SO MUCH harder than training a dog so I respect this guy for training his cat so well!!!!! Cats usually ignore humans unless they have food in their hands😅Wouldn’t even bother to get close to you if you have nothing🤷🏻‍♀️which is why I don’t like them and will forever prefer dogs❤❤❤Oh and btw, can your cat do “sit pretty” now? Since I didn’t see it do the full motion in the video…
