You shouldn't make any boat purchase in haste. I hope this video helps anyone who has seen this boat offered on Academy to decide if its the right purchase for them. I hope it has answered any and all questions you might have regarding the boat. I'm really happy with this boat for what I intend to do with it and I highly recommend this one if you are in the market for something small, affordable, and versatile. It has very basic options, and that is all one might need to go fishing, hunting, etc. What also makes this boat a great choices is it is a blank canvas to modify and make it work best for your own purposes. All I can say about my new boat is some big Florida exotic freshwater species are going to be landed in it, and I can't wait!

I have a Alum 1542, it's a riveted version but it's all good after 10 years. Honda 15BFD Electric start. Had one loose rivet, which was an easy fix. Wish it was a little wider, but it was only 999.

Cabelas and bass pro have a 1548 and a 1654 grizzly T sportman. Pretty decent pricing for a complete rig. All pre wired with switches. 15' with the 25 merc efi and trailer was around 13.5 k tax title out the door and 16' was around 15k. I have the 1548 and i really like it so far. I think if i would buy this academy boat it would be to put a surface drive mud motor on it and used for only duck hunting and shallow water fishing. Imo
You can't go wrong with that set up.
Have you ran it with a full bait tank yet? If so how did it perform? Also, if you get a chance I’d be interested in a video on your tank. Been looking at the same one but on the fence between it and another one.
Were those monk parakeet that almost met their demise with the drone? I like that boat. I have 2 kayaks, one set up for fishing and crabbing and one for duck hunting. I was thinking about selling both and just going with a job boat.
Considering its a tiller I see alot of weight in the back with that set up. I have pretty much the same boat with a 20/25 2 stroke Mercury on it and have my battery weight up front. I like the rubrail.

I'm in my 2nd week now waiting for my Academy jon boat trailer. They said 2-4 weeks...so I'm hopeful. This boat does NOT exist around me or on their website...but it does seem like a great boat for heavy duty fishing. I like how the inside is "finished" with a flat floor and the walls, boxes, etc. I don't NEED a new job boat right now...but I saved this video...it seems like this might be a great boat

When aluminum prices come back down to where they were before November of 2020, we should see this model pop back up again. Right now Alumacraft cant manufacture it at an affordable price point due to the high cost of aluminum, and importing it.

I just purchased a KBE 1250-46 Karavan Trailer that says the max width for the boat I can put on it is 47”, I know this is a lot bigger but would that trailer work?

It does not have the alumatrac rail system. It looks like it does, but it’s different in this boat and there are no accessories that work with it.

This thing put's my Alumacraft 1236 look like an oversized Canoe lol. Very cool boat even right out of the Factory, I'm surprised more 'standard' Jon Boat's don't take on this style of setup. The seats are a pain in the butt to step over for sure even in my little 12' boat.
Yeah but your boat is more portable. This thing weighs twice as much. My boats flat floor is made more for hauling in gear. Like what you’d need for duck hunting. But it does make a sweet fishing boat.
@@FloBass Boat, trailer, and 6hp Outboard fit inside of my large shed out back away from the elements and prying eyes. That's what was my ultimate decision maker! Open the door and away I go.
Great video. I have searched high and low (5 states). Unfortunately I do not see any store that carries them.
I had to wait a while to find one. What I did was I signed up for an email notification with every store I was willing to travel to. So once the store received stock, it sent me an email and I bought it right away.

Great boat and that location where you test your brand new boat, I believe I know where it is. My sister lived near that area. Big snooks swim around there.

I love my tin rig so much it does everything I want and goes everywhere I want and it just works so well which makes it hard to justify selling it and spending all that money on a bass boat.
There's a lot of bass boats you can purchase for the same amount as that Marshrunner. Just depends on where your passions take you on the water. Your boat is pretty bad ass though.

I love the content you provide and I loved that series so I’m so glad you did a review on this. I have a KBE-1250-46-BT trailer, would the width of this boat or the 1650 AW series be too big for that? It says the max width would be 47” for a boat, and when I called my dealer they said as long as I raise the bunks it should be alright.
I appreciate the kind words. I don’t know if that trailer would work. You have to measure and determine yourself if you think you can pull it off. Check alumacrafts website for all the dimensions of the boat and make sure the bunks can be adjusted for it and the beams will sit inside the fenders. Also make sure your trailer is rated for the weight.

For larger water, you should install a splash guard around the engine. I think it's a necessity with a short shaft and with such a weight of boat.
How wide are trailer wheels from outside to outside?

Do you think it's possible to turn that gun storage area into a rod locker by drilling out one side or the other to make room for a few longer rods, seeing that there isn't really any other hidden storage areas....what do you think, anticipate any problems doing that? You can definitely convert it. You can get rod tubes from TH Marine, or just use PVC and mold it using heat. Theres foam under the front deck, so that will need to be carved out when you make your holes inside the locker. But shouldn't cause any issues.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yea I went electric start but not by choice. I went to a local dealer an they told me it would be 3 months to get a f25 so I called every dealer within 500 miles an found one about 50 miles away an it wasn't suppose to be electric start but when I got there it was a electric start model so it all worked out for me it was kinda crazy.

Yeah, I fish out of it all the time. Its holding up really well. I drag it all over the place so it definitely doesn't look as nice as it did, but it was made to take a lickin for us to keep on fishin.

I love everything about Academy
This was honestly my first time at academy. It was pretty cool, minus all of the social separation stuff. There aren’t many retailers in their space where you can walk out with a boat and trailer.

did you just clamp the motor to these boats or did you bolt them to the transom? im afraid of the motor falling off of mine lol
Just clamped. I have it on an electric trim plate now which is bolted to the transom, but the motor is still just clamped to the trim plate. It doesn’t move at all

I got a bass tracker 2013 14 48 I love it so much but I'm always having problems with it!!! If you hit a rock or something and you pierc it and wind up with a leak that's it you can't find nobody that wants to fix them I found one guy that fixed it once before and then I wound up with two more small little leaks and now I got to get that fixed I'm in Florida as well do you happen to know anybody??? Who does good TIG welding??? Mine is also an all weld or do you have any idea how much it would cost to get a new one like that without the motor or trailer mine's a little bit different than yours I could stand on the front with your nap like those it's like a platform and under that is like a holding cell put your life jacket and stuff with a little hole I don't have a trolling motor mount that came with the boat Factory it's a 2013 Bass Tracker grizzly14 48

I had to wait until a store close to me showed it was in stock online, then I bought it on the website and picked it up a few days later.
What do you reccomend for a front mounted trolling motor?
I use a Minn Kota riptide powerdrive
You might not be good to go with any old trolling motor connections, the last boat that I bought didn't work well as delivered. They replaced it with a Marineco and I changed it Nobody wants a bad connect that gets hot.

The closest one I found to dallas was in bastrop.
Rather get a grizzly tracker 1648 for That price bigger boat more options thicker hull material . It’s tempting the way it’s set up for you to hit the water but with some knowledge it’s not hard to add that stuff and place it were u want .plus only a 25!?? That’s not much motor tracker is rated for 50 60 hp .

It's been great! Obviously I wish the boat was bigger and had a larger motor, but it's what I can afford and tow with my volkswagen right now. Still very happy with it. I'm installing seadek so its a little more comfortable and the floor doesn't get so hot in the Florida sun.
Weight limit is a no-go for me. I’d say two people MAX

Honestly I have no idea. Didn't mention it in the owners manual or on the tags in the boat. I'm sure Alumacraft can answer that question.
Hi, new subscriber here. Do you know what’s the lowest hp motor you can get for this Jon boat? I’m not looking to go super fast just need it to get me from one place to another without breaking the bank. Would a 6hp outboard be fine?

You could fit a 6hp no problem. Definitely wouldn't go very fast at all, but if thats not what you're wanting then it would work. This boat is a little expensive to put a small motor on it and putt around. You might want to consider a standard jon boat for that and save a little money. But this boat is more comfortable than a small jon boat so... Just depends on what matters most to you.

What is there to warranty. It's an aluminum boat?
Matt L A lot of them are having problems with welds just coming apart. So yes, they need to be able to fix that under warranty. Wiring is shoddy and has caused batteries to explode before, causing all kinds of damage. All the more reason to have a working warranty.
I'm gonna put the boat to work. If it didn't need a repair now and then, I'm not working hard enough.

@@jeremybahm2163 went with the mudskipper. Honestly there's not much left thats mudskipper at this point. And the 22hp preadtor moves a full hunting load at 23mph. Plan on adding float pods.

I want one of these boats so bad for a duck boat build but can't find one anywhere in south Florida.
I live in Broward County and had to drive to the Academy in Kissimmee to pick it up. When they get a boat in stock they also have a trailer for it, so you could potentially just drive up, hook up the boat/trailer, and drive back. I left at 6am and was back by 1pm after it was all said and done.
@@FloBass I'm in Okeechobee so I have a few options within two hours. Just have to find one in stock. Called around and nothing in the warehouse. But I'm holding out hope. Enjoyed your video on it. That's what sold me on it.
Glad it helped. Once I knew this was the boat I’d be getting it was out of stock in Kissimmee, but only took 2 weeks for inventory to show they came back in stock. It shouldn’t take long. Just check a few times a week.
