    It will function just in a single flat or somewhere directly opposite. For 5 km you need a higher wattage transmission, HF or VHF, straighter line of transmission. However its fine for open environment for excursions and open field trips. You can buy a better Antenna for listening to Ham users. You are not supposed to use in policing zones oe military zones. Plese takea ham liscene if you really interested in the hobby/

    VHF is mostly line of sight. Calculators are there online. But obstacles like brick homes, trees, vehicles, and other concrete structures deteriorate the signal strength and range will be reduced. Haha, police ka frequency kya hai in your area? VHF is 136-174 MHz and UHF is 400-470mhz for these walkie talkies. Agar aap 3 story house ke terrace par jayoge toh range Barr jayega. Aur ye rubber duck antenna hata kar ek proper 1/4 wavelength antenna lagaya jaye toh range double ho jayega.

    Since I am a professional and having about 30 years of experience in handling, Enhancing RF designing, adding RF Amplifiers. But ultimately the conclusion stops at LOS. That it's a line of sight communication. Any object like trees buildings etc will drastically put a bad effects. Like if it worked 4kms at LOS. Surely it will drop to 50meters only. If dense buildings and trees come in between

    • @ampmskm
      @ampmskm Před rokem +1

      With my experience as a retired RF engineer for 2 decades I could say:
      The range(travelling distance ) of any RF devices on Terrestrial communications depends upon the frequency ( wave length) and the power of the transmitter it uses. Higher the frequency shorter the distance it could travel . Low frequency devices such as FM radio, walkie talkies are more suitable for Terrestrial communications. Yes the LOS is the major factor but there are no EM frequencies which are not distorted, attenuated, by different barriers on their path. Having said this VHF uhf are better suited for Terrestrial communications.
      Most walkie talkies use UHF and VHF frequency which is very likely to penetrate the woods, infact the vhf is the better frequency to use in the jungle than the cellular phones. VHF travels faster in the forest woods ( than in water or conductive material) that is the region why the law inforcement agencies like police, intelligence agencies depends upon walkie talkies rather than cellular phone in the jungles.
      Yes the signals might get attenuated, noise gets added and the range might get poorer than in the open LOS ( line of sight)🙏🙏
      Theoretically , While in the space this might not be the case🙏🙏

      Vhf means very high frequency and uhf means ultra high frequency both of this frequency are used in walki talkis whose wave lengths r very short so it travels in line of sight communication only. Its not possible for this kind of wave lenghths to jub over big buldings , hills or mountains , unless otherwise u r using an elivated external antenna . Which is illegal without a valid licence .

    If its range is 1km that's enough. The only problem is that I live near a railway station,and sometimes the police also come here frequently with their radios I'm afraid I'll be in trouble. But I really need such a useful thing

      You are providing false information. Baofeng UV 5R is a dual band (VHF and UHF) radio and they are open from 136 to 174 MHz in VHF and 400 to 520 MHz in UHF. Power output in low power mode is 2 Watt. Using this radio without any valid license is an offence punishable under WPC Act in India. You can be arrested and prosecuted even on charges like threat to national security. For more details, refer Department of Telecommunication and Information Technology notification.
