Playing mauga/orisa is a prime example of the prisoners dilemma. If one tank player does it, it forces the other to also do and then you both don't get to have fun
You gotta wonder why Blizzard felt inspired to buff these heroes............ even their _mains_ don't like them, and they turn the game into a nightmare
No, I wouldn’t say so. It depends. If you have good DPS and Support behind you as Sig or even Rein into Mauga you’ll usually be fine. As long as you’re mitigating Mauga’s damage and focusing him at the same time he’s kinda forced to run. If he’s not dealing damage to your health bar he can’t self heal or get his passive.

@@ArthurEverlingit depends, meaning that the best way to get consistent results and not rely on ever-shifting teammates is to mirror the Mauga. I dont really know why this guy mentioned Orisa cuz id argue she has a decent amount of bad tank matchups (mauga being one of them) and i often find myself being better off choosing one of those.
Honestly I never recommend trying to diff an orisa main.
It would really funny if it was a Mauga/Echo meta with Echo's only reason being there is to make a second Mauga.
I mean, her normal form plays pretty well into mauga and that instant 100 overhealth is pretty juicy..... be careful what you wish for

He was already good, the playerbase is just mostly dumbasses. Not nearly as dumb as the balance team however.

His kit and playstyle are just too braindead. Literally the primary way to play him is to just walk forward with Cardiac Overdrive, shoot, and never die.
You can't make any super special plays with him, most tanks hardly stand a chance against him because he can just mindlessly empty mag after mag into them, and he's just overall kind of boring, even for a character that's supposed to be a juggernaut/minigun kind of hero.
They would've been better off just making the left chaingun a standard flamethrower and making his Overrun only leap forward and stomp.

The issue with the Mauga “meta”, imo, is that you have to shoot the other tank, especially if the other tank is a Mauga. If you don’t, you die, plain and simple.
Any other tank you can turn away and shoot the supports, or DPS, but not Mauga. He’s simultaneously too squishy, and too tanky.

I usually focus the tank until they have to take cover then focus on squishies. Setting them on fire first is key I find. Mauga is better a t mod range then people give him credit
the fact that he rewards this playstyle is stupid. they should make it so that he heals more from squishies.
@@PurpleMoon799 easy fix, % based lifesteal instead of flat regen from crit. maybe a buff to single cannon fire and nerf to dual cannon fire.
He is one of those cases where at least half your team needs to counter him (ana, zen) and then he falls apart pretty easily but if they ignore him, he can run rings around your team

@@natedavis2944they don’t know how to balance their own game it’s been like that since day one of ow1 sadly even the change in devs didn’t solve that issue but it’s because they got 25 dollar skins it’s no coincidence that Sombra, mauga, and Ashe either got buffed or were already pretty busted cass didn’t get changed my theory is because he is literally the worst skin but with the devs egos who knows they probably thought that was their best cass skin to date

Ashe was already good (she’s in my opinion one of the better balanced characters in the game). Cass ain’t bad either he can pop off. It’s just dumb I wanna play rein but if they go Mauga I have to play perfectly to just not feed and get some value. He gets a ton by just following me and shooting me as long as it’s not in front of my whole team
More like, they don't WANT overwatch to be balanced. If the game is never balanced, people will always be eager for those "the game will finally be good now" patches
Their logic that they have given Flats was that, his win rate was really high across metal ranks. He is the 2nd highest win rate tank behind Sigma. Their words not mine

Cooldown shouldn't have been shortened. The 100 temp health is fine and gives it a bit more use but the bigger problem is unlike Fortify, it gives life steal to his allies making it more useful for his team to survive. That is crazy they didn't think of it because they said in their notes they basically wanted to buff its use for Mauga use only but the temp health already did that, the CDR on it makes no sense.
Perhaps they should shrink the size of influence around him instead as a compensation but it may make it useless for helping his team. Bring the time back up for now and see what happens.
Mauga is just terribly designed. He will either be broken or worthless and there’s no in between. He just came out and he already needs a rework.
I guarantee Mauga was the product of corporate monkeys saying "we need more players. make a tank that shoots more guns"

I find that Mauga is an extremely feast or famine character. Even more than someone like Doomfist. If you're in a somewhat vertical map and the enemy runs dive, you're pretty much shit out of luck as Mauga unless you never give up the high ground, but will give it up eventually to contest the objective, and when you do they just dive your backline and you lose.

I still do not understand playing Dva againts Mauga. The moment matrix is over she gets burst down.
She can eat 3 seconds of spam while missiling, and does pretty good damage against Mauga. Just need someone else shooting him to burn armor. If you are out of matrix, don't stand in front of him lol.
Better yet, ignore him, have a dps and Kiri dive with you.
You save matrix for his cardiac to eat any potential heals and self destruct in cage fight to either kill him or force him to cancel his ult and disengage
Besides Mauga mirrors, Dva and Sig probably have the best time surviving Mauga. Matrix also lets you tank without giving Mauga lifesteal or his passive overheal, making it easier for teammates to mow him down.
Personally feel like Orisa is my favorite answer to Mauga, especially with the change to fortify. But Dva works better in mobile comps and vertical maps.
if you're not using DVA what are u using? only Sig and i guess Orisa can counter Mauga's damage outside of DVA....unless you're playing against Maugas that can't aim.
No, I am Mauga main, gold 1, I just mirror. Just, when the enemy picks Dva, one mistake in possitioning/CD usage and I burst her down. This really looks like Dva is good againts Mauga in coordinated team and high elo.
On average, I am having a harder time against Rein than Dva in gold.
I like the editor for editing everytime flats gets a kill, they added the coyboy bebop kill sound 😆

It’s actually crazy how balance like this gets through all they need to do is one test and see making one button pretty much make you unkillable is not good for the game
Mauga duels have the same energy as Torb 1v1s, except you now have everyone on your team to help your guy win. And whichever team loses just has to concede a point because they get run over.
Yep it's basically the same thing except he trades movement speed and ammo for Dr and life steal and also everyone around him gets it
I like mauga and the berserker style but why does everyone else around him also get his berserker ability by just standing near him
If they didn't dive coulda been really good vs him but instead his supports or dps just run you over because they also get the same exact amount of lifestyle and dr
Mauga has the same problem as Roadhog, when he's meta no one gets to have fun.
But unlike roadhog, his mirrors are extremely boring and his kit is very one dimensional. They really need to rework his primary and secondary fire, and fix cardiac to be balanced.
As a Hog main, I get to have fun.
When roadhog was meta, at least there was hard counters like Ana zen orisa
I think it might be pylon cuz that second u take to look at it makes u get fire squad maybe kill it first before every team fight
New Mauga team comp just dropped: Echo (copies enemy magua), Genji (reflects anti nades thrown at Magua), Mercy(damage boosts and also revives Magua), Kiriko(heals/cleanses Magua), and Mauga(Maugs all over the enemy gamers)
This can be reality if they make Maguas guns pinpoint accurate and if his healing is buffed so much that 2 Magua can stare eachother down forever.

I’ve recently discovered Mauga can tank any one damaging ult (hanzo dragon, reaper blossom, ram ult, even an entire mine field) by just cardiac overdrive and shooting with both guns at the enemy tank, with cage up I think he can even tank two or three consecutive ults by just shooting (assuming he goes uninterrupted by sleep dart or nade)
God I love this character. I usually play dps(soldier 76) and it feels good to be able to bully 98% of the roster lmao
Just realized we nees a tf2 heavy skin for mauga with heavy's voice lines
When the character is so dominant both teams go Echo just to copy them every ult.

I think they should just make him being able to fire both guns an ability that lasts a few secs similar to bastions sentry form. and it could last 5secs, and it goes on a 12sec cooldown, that way ppl can't just spam it but also you can have the fun gameplay loop of switching between secondary and primary. and it would make him less of a nuisance. It would literally fix most of the unfair unfuness of fighting him upclose cause he wouldn't just hold down both buttons and beam you.

I versed a Mauga last season who was rolling my team until my tank went horse. He then got bullied until my team won😂. Not sure if that still applies to this season or not but it was fun.

Mauga is a DPS with a lot of health
And yet, will die just as fast as them if the supports aren’t maintaining him 24/7
they actually made a hard counter to every other tank
I also don’t have fun playing Mauga lol. I only pick the mirror as a last resort.
I love mauga cause he is a bit mindless and loves to 1v1 the other tank, he just has good damage for a tank which is damn hard to find I feel and given I’m not that good he’s nice to learn on

Imo they should buff his charge cd and double fire spread but lower his damage and dmg reduction in cardiac. The idea being to discourage turning your brain off and putting everything into killing the tank and instead allowing you to play a more dive/target squishies.
Mauga is my go to when ever my original choice doesn’t work. I main him, doom, JQ and Ram. I usually go doom against mauga because of the fact that mauga has a bastion turret as a primary so I get my empowered punch very often. Than after my punch is empowered I start picking off his squishies. It works a good 8/10 times. It’s easy to do that cause as a mauga lacks a lot of mobility besides his overrun, which is used for either a quick pick or a uninterrupted escape and retreat. And since he can’t contest high ground as easily as doom, you can deny that space and make it more difficult or him to kill you. I’m only giving this information because I lost to a mauga recently as doom and my team wanted to say I threw, but really no one was in VC to coordinate so it was kinda on them.
Mauga is overpowered now but when the collab is over nerf
I feel like the way Blizzard should go about balancing numbers tanks like Mauga and Hog is by lowering their base health and centering their survivability around sustaining themselves using elements of their kit rather than being an unkillable wall with high health, damage output, and consistently high levels of self-sustained healing and virtually no downsides. Mauga should get a damage and health reduction, but potentially a lifesteal percentage increase to counteract the other changes. Hog should get the same treatment, only with a reduction to his meter recharge time so Hog players have to play a bit smarter with their utility if they want to achieve the same degree of success as current Hog. I feel like changing numbers tanks like this is a good way to avoid another Mauga meta like the one we just got out of in season 8.
sigma is the best mauga counter if you use ur CDs well, bcz you can block most attacks, or play junker queen cuz mauga has hard times against smaller hitboxes

I've despised playing ranked cause more often then not I'm losing cause one person on my team isn't doing their job(I'm in gold almost put of it) then I go on losing streaks and it genuinely sucks cause even if I ask them to switch cause they aren't good at playing the character they either don't or switch to someone worse
