    As a person who is 46 and played guitar since he was 18 and can only dream to play this it is painful to watch.

      im 26, i have a kid 2 years old, iv played guitar for 10 years but all iv learnt of gypsy jazz was in the last year to now, studing by my self with youtube. now i know 32 songs, and can freely improvise not so simple things

      That's the right spirit. A massive skill ceiling should excite people. You'll be attending gypsy jams when you're in your 60's and still be learning new things that you can incorporate into your play.

    I am a beginner myself, but your description is on the right track. You strum every beat, but the second and fourth beats are more of a "flick" to get more of the percussive sound, so it's strum/flick/strum/flick. The left hand is: press/relax/press/relax. Maintaining pick control while keeping your wrist relaxed enough is the big challenge - aside from all the finger-gymnastics of manouche chord voicings.
    Check out Dennis Chang's videos. He also has a whole DVD on rhythm accompaniment.

    Not staccatos. When you vocalize it, it's "boom-chick-boom-chick," which is more like Strum/mute/strum/mute. 2nd and 4th beat are choked by your fingers not pressing the strings down.
    There are other variations, but that's the predominant pattern in this video.

      +Felipe CRP It incorporates a lot of different scales, and it's more about the melodies and the chords than it is about a "tricky" scale. What a lot of jazz players do is run around the notes in the chords (1-3-5-7). So try to hit the notes of the chords typically on stronger beats and play some chromatic or stepwise stuff in between. That's a very basic idea of what they're doing. Honestly, I would suggest trying to slow the video down (the quality is shit, but they're playing is pretty clear), and trying to learn the licks they're playing. Hope that helps!

      Once you learn how to HEAR,,, you will then be able to know what note(s) you should play! Knowing scales has nothing to do with melody! You must train your ears first!!!! As the great MILES DAVIS, and others, said: "learn your scales,,,,,,,, and then............................ forget it all!!!

In my (never to be) humble opinion, (And I know I'll get flak for this, but don't care - because it's only a suggestion) it might have been a more interesting piece to start with just the simple melody, which is amazing in itself, and then moved on to the more Fantastic, which is clearly all here. Nice stuff either way.

    1) Haha ChetArrista, I was thinking the same thing. Ridiculous.
    2) max davison,
    There's a simple answer to that. Every trumpeter did and does, especially at the time (in fact, hordes of kids imitated everything about him including screaming until they had a scratchy voice). Actually that's a bad example because swing music itself is all an imitation of Armstrong's "style note-for-note" (whatever that paradox means), including Django, so don't even go there...
    And yes we will (about Django...that's the point...).

    • @AvenjaysGuitar
      @AvenjaysGuitar Před 8 lety +3

      actually it has a lot to do with his picking. He's literally resting his palm on the guitar bridge thats a big NO if you want to get a good resonant/ whole sound on the guitar in gypsy jazz. Look at Gonzalo's right hand how its lifted over the bridge as he plays, notice how he has much cleaner tone? Andreas may be great at jazz guitar, but jazz guitar right hand picking is completely different to Gypsy jazz technique. You can see it as he tries to do runs on the guitar without using any rest strokes and how it sounds really staggered and choppy, opposed to Gonzalo how the melody actually rings and connects. I hate seeing guitarists who think they can play gypsy jazz if they're good at electric guitar. Two stylistically different approaches

    • @AvenjaysGuitar
      @AvenjaysGuitar Před 8 lety +1

      Just because hes a great jazz guitarist doesn't mean hes a great gypsy jazz guitarist. He's totally using electric guitar technique which does not convert to gypsy jazz at all. If you know gypsy jazz then its all about two things - rest strokes and hovering right hand technique. If you did any research you'd notice that most well known gypsy jazz guitarists DO NOT rest their palms on the guitar. That is an electric guitar approach, not a gypsy jazz approach. Search any of the well known manouche players, none of them rest their palm on the guitar which Andreas is clearly doing...(it chokes tone and restrings fluency on connecting arpeggios and volume) refer to Adrien Moignard, Gonzalo, Sebastien, Stochelo, Angelo Debarre, Jimmy Rosenberg.
