    • @The_Masked_1der
      @The_Masked_1der Před rokem

      I gotta say my favorite is the live album, another lesson in violence.. it's all those great old songs, with Paul Baloff on vocals, is in the bay area so it's extra crazy, and it's Andy Sneap's first of many times producing the band. So it sounds killer, has Baloffs banter between songs, and it's all killer, no filler.. plus it has Robb Flynn from Machine Head (back when he was in vio-lence) joining them onstage for a song. The intro to No Love, sounds particularly excellent compared to the original album version, but really, sonically all the songs are the best they could be. Even when they redid Bonded By Blood later on, it didn't sound as good as this, and Baloff was already dead when that remake album came out so it's a perfect moment in history.

    @sumonjamal1653 Před 2 lety +21

    Exodus here was: Gary Holt & Lee Altus (guitars), Tom Hunting (drums), Jack Gibson (bass) & Rob Dukes (vocals)... A while ago, Steve 'Zetro' Souza (vocals) returned to the band and replaced Rob Dukes; Souza had replaced Exodus' (late) original vocalist Paul Baloff back in 1985 and fronted the band until their breakup in 1993. Exodus returned w/ Souza on vocals in 2004 for the 'Tempo of the damned' comeback album, but Souza subsequently quit... Rob Dukes became the vocalist in 2005 until he was dismissed in 2013 after 3 albums w/ Exodus.
    Gary Holt replaced guitarist Jeff Hanneman in Slayer around 2011, and played guitar for them until Slayer ended their run in 2019... Tom Hunting (drums) was recently treated for cancer; Holt called Hunting 'the greatest thrash metal drummer' 🤘🤘
    Exodus was formed w/ Metallica's Kirk Hammett on guitar... After Hammett left in 1983, Exodus solidified their line-up w/ Paul Baloff (vocals), Gary Holt & Rick Hunolt (guitars), Tom Hunting (drums) & Rob McKillop (bass)... and recorded their debut album 'Bonded by blood'. Unfortunately, the record's release was delayed until 1985 by legal hassles w/ their label Torrid Records. By that point, Exodus was working on a 2nd album 'Pleaures of the flesh' in 1986, but Baloff was becoming a liability in the studio due to his alcoholism... He was fired subsequently, and Exodus' fanbase did not react well to his exit... Steve 'Zetro' Souza, who was fronting the thrash metal band Legacy (which became Testament in 1987) joined as the vocalist and made his debut w/ Exodus in 1987 on 'Pleasures of the flesh'.

    The first Exodus album "Bonded By Blood" is revered and loved by underground metal community. The only thing I would fault that first album for is production; however, the entire first album (minus one song) was later re-recorded live for the album "A Lesson in Violence". This in my mind fixed the production issue, and was a faithful, awesome re-imagining. But yeah, Toxic Waltz is a tad corny and wasn't even the original singer; check out that first album!!

    This vocal style is a response to all the sugary, vocal oriented pop music that was dominant in the late 70's-early 80's. If you sang pretty in a metal band, you were labeled hair Metal and had no real cred.
    There was a BIG cross section of the Venn diagram of thrash and punk fans and if you had a vocal style that appealed to both you had VERY lively shoes.
    This music is created to thrash/mosh to. It's fun to let out the energy and aggression of the week and let loose to. No great poetry, or neoclassical composition. Just thrash, to thrash to and leave your ears ringing the next day, so you can remember why you got whiplash.
    Always good live. So fortunate to have seen them so many times back in the day.

    This song was my introduction to Exodus back in 2007. I was already big into Megadeth and other thrash bands, but I was still in the early stages of my metal knowledge and I didn't know who Exodus was yet. A friend let me borrow that album shortly after it came out and I listened to it in my car while I was on the highway on the way to work. Soon as I heard that opening sequence of Funeral Hymn, the first couple minutes or so, I immediately knew this was the type of band which I'd like everything they'd ever done. Checked out all their shit and it was true, I like all of their albums. I prefer Zetro to Dukes for vocals, but pretty much everything by Exodus is sick. For me Exodus is the most consistently heavy thrash band out there. Megadeth is up there at the top for me too, but Megadeth did have a few shitty songs and shitty albums here and there. Exodus has been more consistent through time.

    George, I'm 2/3 of the way to 100 but still love to headbang. For someone my age harsh vocals were tough to adjust to...my solution did not happen overnight and maybe it won't work for you but I learned to listen to harsh vocals by treating them just another instrument in the band. Can't understand them most of the time anyway. It takes time but it worked for me. I can listen to any vocal now...I just don't like them all. You guys should listen to anything off of the Force of Habit Exodus album...my favorite from 1992.

      I’m 43 and stopped banging a few years ago. I really overdid it when I was younger and I started worrying I was doing serious damage to my neck and back.
      I miss it but when I see what guys like Araya, Newsted and Mustaine went through…well, I don’t love it THAT much.
      For guys like Angus Young, Kerry King and Scott Ian who can still headbang, more power to them, but then, they’re short in stature, and I really think that has something to do with it (lower center of gravity).

That's what happens from 40 plus years of mosh pits and head banging , can't say i'd change things if i could though. Love that you guys are appreciating this! I wish you’d then give some attention to us Death Angel maniacs out there. NO reactors have touched on their discography yet. They have so many songs…if you can appreciate Exodus you gotta hear DA…they don’t sound like Exodus really but same hardness…. They’re more Metallica based. How about “Voracious Souls”, “The Ultra-Violence” that’s a 13 minute instrumental, “Seemingly Endless Time”, “Stop”, “Stagnant” “Disturbing the Peace”. TRUST ME. They are Metal with a groove like you guys like…y’all really ain’t heard nothing yet. People tend to throw the hardest stuff they can at you thinking that’s cool. But these songs have melody and chorus in their hardness like you like. PLEEZE give them a chance ! 🤘🤘🔥🔥🤘🤘. Do you see comments outside of the paying patrons?? And good God don’t even get me started on the neglect of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I think you guys would LOVE their music. Much more your pace, not fast at all and just heavy and powerful with melody and chorus. Try “FIRE IT UP”, “SET TOU FREE”, “”All that once shined”, “I’ve gone away”, “In My Dying Time”….too many to list…Please try them

    Exodus would have been part of "The Big Four" (They already are in my book) if their debut album hadn't had it's release delayed for a year due to the record company going broke. If any band deserves the title of pioneer it's them.

    • @Ted_Nu_Djent

      @Gregbaltzer Před 2 lety

      I don't believe that. I like Exodus but they don't have the commercial appeal of the big 4. Megadeth's debut came out the same year as Exodus and Megadeth became bigger. I think Testament had larger commercial appeal then Exodus , but with Testament really was a case of to late to the party. Plus Testament and Exodus just didn't have that monumental album like Master of Puppets, Reign In Blood, Rust in Piece, or Among the Living to catapult them.

    • @Wanderlust073
      @Wanderlust073 Před 2 lety +1

      Exodus never had a Puppets or Rust In Peace because the songwriting really didn’t evolve much, and they never really took off as a result. Arguably it took them over twenty years to these two atrocity discs to put out something with more weight to it than a bunch of meth fueled speed metal tunes. Personally I think more than one horrid lead vocal choice also held them back, though obviously each Exodus vocalist has had their fans.
