  • How to safely build top rope anchors for rock climbing on bolts. Anchors built with locker draws, a quad built with a sling, and an equalized 120cm runner are demonstrated. Detailed tips on where to clip the anchor to avoid problems are also provided.

Thanks for this great video - one of the best because you explain why you do something, and also the circumstances that would lead you to a different decision, using your judgement.

But if you clip above the quick link aren't you loading on top of it which isn't ideal I thought? I learned to always clip underneath.

Great video btw! Didn’t know about the horizontal/vertical anchor/ring thing, good to be aware of.

Shouldn’t you clip below the chains to avoid creating a lever? Convenience in cleaning doesn’t seem like a good enough reason to take that risk. Or is that risk over hyped and not really worth worrying about if there aren’t multiple beaners in the bolt?

Great video! Quick question, why do you use 2 locking carabiners for attaching the rope to the various anchors, while the anchors are only attched to the bolts with non-lockers? I would have thought if it's a locker, a single one would be secure enough. Cheers!

Assume I just have 2 screwlock karabiners, can I attach them to the chain directly to build the top ?

Yes, definitely. No need to add anything more if the chains are long enough to touch when pulled together (creating a triangle shape from the bolts to the apex at the locking carabiners. If just using two locking carabiners it's often helpful to leave the bottom chain links empty so you can thread your rope when cleaning. Thanks for watching!
