- Basic rundown of one of the ways I make my shop feel like I'm walking into the Star Wars Universe every day... except Sundays. I take those off.
Parts:
- Plastic food tray top (Subway)
- ABS plumbing or PVC conduit ends
- 1/8" aluminum plate, or plastic
- Kitchen cupboard door hinge
- MDF or wood
- Windsheild washer hose
- screws/bolts/nuts
You'll also need silver paint (metallic), and exterior paint. - Zábava
Thank you!! This is exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for. I’m building a spaceship themed escape room and I need more texture and details on the walls 😊
My pleasure. Please post your results!
GREAT idea!! Just one thought. If you add some spray foam sealer/insulation into the lid, you can make it more sturdy and ridged. ;)
I’ve seen that tray piece get used for this really often, it’s almost like we’ve created our own universe with common greeblies 😂 and those tubes would work really well for gone droid legs
Excellent! I love it! Just thinking about it you could fill it with spray foam to remove the flexibility. I bet you could also put aluminum tape on the inside, pray it with foam, then use a screwdriver handle to dent and distress it until it cracks and shows the tape. Lots of possibilities!
Your tip about painting the inside silver.... major time saver. Wish I saw this video earlier. Thanks for posting.
That trick with the silver is super creative
Spraying inside... genius. Thank you!
These are some awesome props. The keypad one could actually be a good burglar deterrent. Put it outside your door with a scrolling display that says something scary about how an improper code entry will automatically trigger the household defense system, and burglars might think twice about trying to break in!
Digital Name tag is a good idea. I got a bunch of those off Ali Express for stuff like that.
Just found your channel. Subscribed! ❤️👍🏼

Another great video Rob!! May the force continue to be with you.....always!
Thanks for posting this video... you've given some great ideas.
I was seriously mindblowned by the spraying inside idea! Thanks!
This is so rad. I want to do this type of stuff with my kid's room and my music room. Definitely looking into getting some of these containers and experimenting. Thanks for the excellent vid!

Hi Rob, wow great props! I'm a huge fan of making workshops feel like another universe. I think I'll have to go to Subway soon!
So nice😍 Please more of those props
From lightsabers to other props, everything that comes off your hands is a work of art. Keep it up Mr. Petkau! P.S. I dig the beard
Fantastic! I never thought Subway could be so beneficial. Thank you for all the info.
Finally! Power Converters from Toshi Station! Great ideas and video!
For weathering / distressing the outer grey paint, try a fork or metal spatula for scratches or streaks, abrasions, and for smaller wear and abrasions, try a green Scotch kitchen scrubber pad, or similar. Also try a toothbrush or a small scrub brush and see what works best. I'd think just doing glancing spots where it would be most likely to get wear, such as from touching, keypresses, scrapes from spacesuits or cargo loading, etc. -- Love the tips. I am not handy, but I'll keep this in mind.
Great weathering tip. Deserves more likes!
A plastic tray from Subway, and I thought I was just being stupid. I had two different trays, the same material as this one, but not this tray. I threw them away. I saved them a while, then threw them away, thinking I was just being stupid saving them. Wish I had them now
Thank you so much for the video
Very talented sir ! These are great ideas for sci fi short film props. SUBBED

Excellent! Subscribed! This is what I want to learn how to do. I also want to learn how to do the electronic stuff with my control panels like you!⚡️💚⚡️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is how I want to live in my home.
Great ideas, those nametags have become pretty popular in prop making.
I'm working on a room like this. I'm using half of a discarded rolling, metal suitcase. Yours looks great.🤖👌
OMG!!! You are amazing!! Can't wait to do the same thing to some space themed projects. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring us 🎉🎉

"Subway, eat space"!
Just found your channel today and am really enjoying your builds ! BTW what type of paint did you use on that red handle? really looks like anodized aluminum!
Thanks - and welcome!
If I recall I think I powdercoated the metal handle. But you can achieve a similar effect with transparent red automotive paint, and a flat clear coat.
Making somethings outta nothing! Awesome!
Do that door next!
I have a plan! but it will take awhile.
space space space
nice how did you get the name tag to operate from a separate push button thanks
I had to hack it open carefully with a dremmel to access the switch. Then I could solder wires to run a separate switch.
@@MadcowGenesis cheers rob
This may be a very "basic" question, but how do you get those plastic subway trays? Is there a specific thing you have to order?
And by the way, I love your channel. I just found it an hour ago and have been binging on your vids. Really inspires me for decoration ideas.
@@user89076 Thanks!
I got my trays from my church after various social functions. They are used for their large platters. You could go right in to a Subway and ask, might work.
@@MadcowGenesis I think I'll try that next time I go there, hopefully it works. Thanks for responding :)
@@user89076 My pleasure.
What lights are those in the beginning @0:05?
Just a spinning amber light for a car, that I adapted for the shop
If you like weathering you try blackwashing. You'll never go back once you try it.
I wonder why plastic trays have these details in them
It gives the structure more strength
