It’s nice though, every now and then to “ nip round ya mates garage / workshop😀 and see how he’s getting on with all them never ending projects”😀 hope you’s all have a good crimbo, probably see ya all in a couple of vids… Stick in buddy 👍🏻

      Nice video, shame to her about the damp and mould. Having the heating on is a worthwhile thing to do,and saves you money in the long run (redoing ceiling, drying out walls and the obvious health issues living in a damp house). Completely agree for your reasons why given the ridiculous cost of living etc but not using it has caused issues that could have been avoided. Mind you, I bet lots of people have had similar issues.

  • @phonotd
    @phonotd Před 8 měsíci +4

    It has probably already been pointed out Martin, but anyway, the damp you are experiencing is condensation of the moisture in the air which is produced as a result of using gas and paraffin heaters. These produce a lot of moisture in the air which will condense on the colder outer walls, windows and so on. This in turn provides the perfect conditions for mould to grow, along with peeling paint and so on, another issue can be a lack of adequate ventilation to allow moisture laden air to escape from the house and allowing damp air to condense out on cool surfaces.

    • @civicvtec92
      @civicvtec92 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I literally came to type this, definitely cause lots of moisture to be produced Martin so may be worth stopping use in the house 👍

      Yes you're quite correct ,they are the work of the devil! When you factor in the cost of the fuel/ gas , the damage to decoration and possible health risks from mould spores etc faffing around filling them up or changing gas bottles not to mention the purchase price , they just don't make sense. It's got to be better to use a 1.5 kw fan heater for a few hours ( especially one of the newer ceramic ones with thermostatic control).

By chance today you mentioned about your restore chnl which I found very interesting as one of my other hobbies apart from cooking is Tilley lamp restoration and paraffin related items. The Zibro wick restore was interesting. You certainly keep your self very busy. Thanks for all your time you give to put these videos on..Cheers mate.

    Hi Martin, I have a zibro heater, they are fantastic. The instruction manual says to "DRY BURN" the wick occasionally to extend its life. My heater failed to light automatically recently so that's what I did and it returned to normal lighting. Instead of burning it untill the tank runs out, I just took the tank out and it still took about an hour to extinguish. Anyway it worked. Thanks for all your and Sharon's demonstrations and entertainment.

    Love this video. Makes me think about back in the day while my mam was making the fire in the morning she warmed the dining room up with a paraffin heater. Great. However my breathing went bad and I had asthma. The doc blamed the heater and not the fact that both my parents smoked. My mother in laws doctor told her to smoke menthol cigarettes to help her asthma. Crazy times

    Point of use oil/gas bottle heaters are condensation central, add to the mix that the heating has been turned off and the core building temperature will have cooled allowing the condensation from the oil heaters to readily condense on the outside walls and ceilings, usually seen as black mould, usually in the corners/ceilings of rooms. I have seen this SO many times in social housing. You would do better to keep your central heating on a low setting. Not talking out of my hat, I am a Chartered Building Surveyor who has been dealing with this issue for 30+ years.

      To heat my house like we used to do before the energy prices went up used to be around £240 per month, to keep the heating on as we used to, it jumps up to over £700 per month. Its damage limitation we are trying to deal with so pop the heating on as necessary.

    I get my Kero from a local fuel supplier for 95p per litre. Much cheaper than the red diesel I was using previously. Many heating oil suppliers won't sell in smaller quantities though so it may not be feasible for everyone. Luckily, our supplier spotted the diesel heater trend and setup a kerosene pump in their yard for customers to purchase in their own jerry cans.

    I also use dehumidifiers in my house.I have found that one large dehumidifier uses less power and does the whole house rather than moving a small one from room to room.The refrigerant R290 is propane so watch out do not use the zibro heater with its open flame when heating the room for dehumidification its a fire hazard .

    Whys your heat not on martin? It sounds like youd be safer just using it.
    My house is same if i let it get too cold over winter mould starts in the external corners. I just keep the thermostat set at a low ish temp so the heat always kicks on if it starts to get too cold. Worth the cost of oil to keep the house in good condition

    Busy busy busy Martin!
    I'm a bit behind, have you given up on the central heating because of the high costs or is there a problem with it?
    I tried a smaller version of one of those heaters at the start of the year and also a couple of Aladdin 2 inch wick heaters, not all running at the same time and although they were ok i found using class 1 Paraffin they worked out just as expensive as using ,my central heating but i am only in a one bed flat, apparently the inverter Paraffin heaters are the best and are also meant to be fairly inexpensive to run once purchased and bargains still turn up on marketplace for them if you keep looking.

      @retrorestore We use a condensing oil boiler in a three bed old barn conversion with some solid walls. I don't think we 'could' use £700 of oil in a month! My old Mum is disabled and has half the house at 22 degrees 24/7 as well?
      I would suggest there must be an insulation issue if your house requires that much heat?
