    The instructions that come with the filler cover are way more complicated than they need to be based on the video. They show taking off the tail light assembly and taking off panel in the drivers rear cargo area.

      That's the exact reason why I looked up this video, I thought there was no way that needed to happen since all other fuel door covers never require removing the taillight.

    I suggest using the red rock instructions of going through the inside tail light opening access so you don’t use a pry tool… go i. Through the inside and release the plastic tabs… I used a pry tool and now have dents in the side where it pressed on the body. 🤬

      Yep! Me too. My fuel door came with no instructions whatsoever so I was relying on this video as the only source of instruction. Needless to say I am NOT pleased with denting a 4-day old vehicle.

      @bradcrc395 Před rokem +3

      yea me too. I watched this video and I have the same pry tools, so I popped off the old cover and dented the crap out of my side panel even though I didn't think I put much pressure on it.
      Anyone reading this, be very very careful. I totally fracked my Jeep and now I'm very sad.

      I have a slight one too damnit! I wish I saw your comment earlier. This video should be removed as it's causing several owners pain and suffering. My Jeep was literally 2 days old and now I'm paying to have the dent removed. Unreal!! They should be ashamed to share this video.

    I used a pry tool; wish I hadn't: dents. I didn't read the comments here, first, to see the warning. For using the pry tool, I suggest first lifting gently to locate a clip. Then, use a flat trim tool to push inward on the clip to release it while lifting with the pry tool. This requires pushing inward with force on the flat trim tool, but it is force parallel to the body, so it doesn't dent. Once I released one clip, I moved the flat trim tool to a second clip and repeated. With two clips released, the door assembly came out. Pushing the grommet on the replacement door assembly over the filler tube is no treat, but pushing it over the lip, bit by bit, using a flat trim tool, going around the perimeter, eventually put the grommet into position. Snapped into place, the fuel door assembly rattles just a little bit loosely, but it is not too bad.

    I just did this using a plastic spatula (for flipping burgers) as a soft pry tool. It was enough to get space to pull it off. More difficult was getting the fuel tube through the new tube gasket in the new door. However it took no more than 3 minutes.

    Take the tail light out! Trust me it's well worth the effort compared to leaving small dents in a brand new jeep. The sheet metal is super thin and easy to dent plus the area around the edge of the gas cover will be slightly recessed and won't leave a tight seal between the body and the gas cap cover from the prying. Now I'm having to take mine to a hail dent specialist

      You can pry on the edge of the trim, but to avoid damage to the quarter panel it's easier and recommended to pop the tail light.

    • @AStanton1966
      @AStanton1966 Před 7 měsíci

      I believe the taillight isn't a water-tight seal and this thing isn't either. You could also use a little clear silicon or black silicon depending on your Jeep's color.

    May I ask why most video say to unscrew the back light?

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  Před rokem +1

      It's easier to press the tabs and push them forward on the trim piece. If you just try to pry on it from the outside you can risk damage to the quarter panel from the force or whatever tool you use. It may be a step longer, but it will won't take as much "persuasion" to remove it! Hope this was helpful!

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  Před 9 měsíci

      It's a pain. We have done a decent amount so it comes out easier for us. Taking off the tail light and taking a longer flat head to the back does help with the clips.

  • @danhoske8179

    DON’T USE A PRY TOOL!!! I followed these directions and while it does pop out, I now have a couple of dimples where I slid the pry bar into place (with cardboard to protect finish) and it looked old terrible.
    Take off your light and pop it off that way.
    This is a terrible DYI video. Don’t follow these directions. The steel on the wrangler is super thin here and easy to bend.

    • @robjohnson.22
      @robjohnson.22 Před rokem

    • @danhoske8179
      @danhoske8179 Před rokem +1

      I haven’t fixed them yet. The original gas cap snapped back in place in spite of the dimples. The new cap didn’t catch so I’ve put it off to the side until I fix it.

      I feel ya! I wish I would have seen other videos as I just did the same to my 4-day-old as well. Now I am going to have to chat with my friend who manages a body shop to see what my most painless option would be to minimize their appearance without a respray or bondo.

  • @Scott-dy5ox

    This is horseshoe. You will mess up your jeep if you try to pry it off. They obviously made it easy for her. But in reality you need to take off the tail light and pop it from the back

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  Před 8 měsíci

      We install a lot of these, so yes it was a bit easier to take out from the front in the video. If it won't come out easily, taking the tail light out and pushing the tabs forward works as well. -Merideth
