  • www.homebuildi... Click on this link for more information about deck construction, engineering and floor framing. In this video I will provide you with what I consider to be a better way to frame circular outdoor decks. I've recently ran across a few curved decks that don't look like they are going to hold up and could collapse if weight was distributed incorrectly.

Seeing your perspective is always a good teacher.

Your videos are a tremendous help to diy builders these days. But there is a large community out there really crying out to get advice from you for round timber construction.

I would say if you are going to decide to use 8 footings then use your original plan but add two longer beams. Place them between the original beams to support the end joists.

Thanks for the video. Do you have a way to calculate the number of deck boards for a circular deck? It seems it is not just square footage as the deck boards have to go beyond the circle to be cut.

Instead of trying to make an otherwise rectangular deck frame circular, why not break up the circle into multiple sections like pie slices? Trillium Domes has a good video on this on their youtube channel.

Sounds like you know what your doing. Or @ least more than me! I could really use your guidance on my dream project. I would like to build a clubhouse on top of my 40' tall concrete silo. Diameter of 12'. I'm interested in any ideas you mite have. Thanks!

Where can I get a building plan for a twelve foot ground level floating deck?

I need to frame a square, 4 foot high deck to partially (~7/8) surround a 6 foot diameter hot tub. Do you have examples of framing for something like this? The decking needs to be 6", 12", 12" and 18" wide from the edges of the circular hot tub. All the decking will run in one direction.

I would go to the website and check out the deck design and building videos.

What are your thoughts on using the heavy timber under those joists and then use thick decking and no joists

I've seen it done before with good results.

when your mother in law ask if your new house will have a spare corner to move in - you design a circular house

round is cool but square is sooo much easier and cheaper so forget it

The short answer don't build circular decks, or at least don't build them out of wood
