Deftones normally takes time to grow before I really love a song. This one has me almost in tears. I didnt think Deftones could exceed my already sky high expectations
Yes, this album so far is easier than previous efforts. In a good way though. I remember thinking white pony was a let down after first listen. oh how the years have changed me
i've always felt the same way... they are just really good at playing with people's expectations. you think you know what you want from their new album, it's something completely different, there is initial disappointment, and then eventually you recognize the genius. rinse and repeat for the next album.

There is that major shift at 2:49 when they suddenly have that early Cocteau Twins-esque influence. You'll hear it in Garlands/Head Over Heels/Treasure songs or on the very early EPs. Just a magnificent beast track

Dude, one of the best songs I've ever heard.
I think this proves my theory: Deftones releases a masterpice every 10 years. White Pony, 2000. Diamond Eyes, 2010. Ohms, 2020. Now I'm not saying none of their other albums are amazing, but these 3 in particular stand out in their discography.
I find SNW & KYN more worthy of masterpieces than diamond eyes tbh

I remember being like 14, I'd heard Deftones on Myspace, and I told my rock climbing teacher "They're cool, I'm not sure about all the screaming," He set me straight, now I have EVERYTHING; b-sides, covers, everything. Can't wait to see them next year.

@@avolite719 I discovered Deftones because of Phantom Bride from Gore 8 years ago when I was like 11. I was completely awestruck and mesmerized. Deftones floated me through highschool. That album through that song will ALWAYS hold a very special place in my heart.

@@St0NeBuILdErRefUseD it came at the perfect time for me. I was in college and going through some stuff and it's was my soundtrack for the entire year besides Inrainbows by Radiohead and Colors by Between the Buried and Me.
@@creekandseminole thats basically the same story for me. I was in college going through a bad breakup and that really helped me sort out my feelings and let it out.. Till this day that album brings the feelings flooding back but without the pain thanks to the grace of time. Partly why I call it the sad album.

So unique, like a fusion of new and old but still remains contemporary. This experimentation reminds me of White Pony...
Thank Terry Date for that. He came back to produce this album. He worked with them on their first 4 albums.

It's like they took the best parts of Koi and Diamond Eyes and mashed them together. I love it. You don't have the sweeping choures of say "Royal", but the dynamics are the best we have heard in years.
And Frank is a MOTHERFUCKER on this album.

So many awesome influences on this album. Not only is it a perfect mix of old and new but I’m hearing a lot of Smashing Pumpkins, glassJAw, Hum, A Perfect Circle, the Cure, to name a few. It’s good shit!
I discovered these guys in 2004 when I started to become a serious music lover, and it's so surprising and pleasing to see that one of my school day heroes still kicks ass. Wow.
9 albums in 25 years, and they didn't lose their quality throughout. How many bands can do that? Definitely one of the greatest bands of this age.

For Deftones to create an album such as this during all of our most challenging times, WOW. So much to take in and experience with this. The band is still creating new territories with albums.
