Are you kidding me, that coffee table is stunning! You should be so proud, this looks like something in AD!
Yes!!!!
thank you😊❤
A couple things I would suggest (as someone with experience working with concrete):
1. The rocks you used for the large aggregate were a bit too big. You want something a little smaller and more consistently sized. I don't think it will affect your results though, probably just would have been easier to put in the mold and reduced the holes in the surface. Also, aggregate isn't for strength, it just takes up space and is generally cheaper and lighter than cement. You need to be careful how much you add - I would suggest looking up a "recipe". It's normally done by weight.
2. You can use more water than that. It's kind of hard to explain verbally but I would suggest looking up videos of something called a "slump test" to get a better idea. The more water, the easier it will be to place in your mold.
3. You should cover your concrete with a tarp or plastic while it cures to keep the water from evaporating and cracks forming. If it's really hot, you can even go back after a few hours and lightly spray it so the surface stays wet.
4. WEAR GLOVES! I know you mentioned this but I just want to double down that they are necessary for protection. As soon as cement is mixed with water a chemical reaction starts and it's really bad for your skin. It's not going to severely injure you but it's not pleasant either.
Also doubling down on the mask and working in a well ventilated area. Cement is a very fine powder and can really irritate the lungs.
5. Styrofoam can be used to make it lighter. There's actually concrete canoe competition for Canadian engineering schools and they often use styrofoam in their designs.
these are really helpful! thank you so much!
Interesting
The Styrofoam is such a good idea? Thanks for the tip! (And all the other advice)
Cement can cause chemical burns. Not just small burns, 3rd degree burns as well. Needed to correct you saying it won't severely injure you. It may not, but it really can.
@@Lasomie Fair, it's unlikely but absolutely possible. I was going to mention chemical burns but honestly didn't want to scare people. When people have done stupid stunts like encase parts of themselves in concrete (yup, people are that dumb) they find out the biggest danger is of chemical burns.
Not wearing proper protection is most likely to cause some irritation and not much more. I've only had noticeable issues if I've been lazy and left work clothes saturated with concrete on too long - I once gave myself a lovely chemical burn on the ass bc we decided to sit around chatting instead of changing. I much regretted that decision 😬
“Pro tip”- use a spray bottle to add water when concrete seems too dry. Also you can use foam insulation sheets to help lessen the weight.
Look into something called papercrete. You can make it yourself. It is strong and lighter than concrete. Greet way to reuse shredded paper.
Love this!
Thnx. Im going to use this trick..
noted!!!❤
I would definitely recommend cutting the builder's tubes with a hack saw. That circular saw move was one of the most dangerous power tool uses I have seen on CZcams.
I was kinda shocked they showed that to be honest. Also the no masks when doing the concrete mixing or sanding worries me
They rarely follow proper safety procedures on this channel. I hope they have liability insurance.
If they were in BC I'd be begging them to speak with a Work Safe rep, but I don't know how things work in Ontario
I love this, I find concrete furniture to be so timeless, and if treated right indestructible! Plus with Rachel's dazzling personality this video was such a great way to unwind after an awfully long day of work lol
❤❤
For a first time project, you killed it!!! That’s super impressive!!
I’ve seen Modustrial Maker do a ton of surfaces and the like with concrete, but he tends to prefer the smoother surface… I think he does the “top” surface as a thin first coat of only the concrete… then goes in with the concrete & aggregate/rebar layers after the first skim type coat for the smooth surface.
Love the table, I could see something like that in my livingroom! That chair is theft proof!
lol
Very good point. :)
that chair isn't going anywhere anytime soon😂❤
This is up my alley. My husband works with concrete! I never thought about furniture tho🤣😂🤣
I love the color of your hat and tank, so cute!
I think snack asmr is a must every time now, the egg was the best!
Stunning table and chair! Great job!!
Really mix it up doesnt it?
There's something both prehistoric ( Flintstones...with the very best of compliments); and Futuristic (The Jetsons) about your table and chair. Truly Stunning.
Hey I love the video and especially on a DIY level, concrete isn't the worst also because of its durability but it's definitely not eco friendly, green or sustainable (sand is a limited resource), it's actually one of the major emitters of CO2, estimates go up to 8% of all global emissions solely based on concrete. Again, the use for a DIY isn't the issue but the immense use in the construction sector of which close to nothing actually gets recycled (idk about the recycablility of concrete as well, sure it is technically possible but may not be a viable option because it's so resource-consuming).
yes! as a channel that alot of time claims to be so climate friendly I really wished they adressed this.
Especially with all the holes the chair has water will stand in those after rain and if its cold and below freezing the expanding water will damage the chair even further. Definetly not something I think is sustainable or long lasting
This was my first thought seeing this video. The second was how freaking heavy concrete furniture must be.
The video is well-shot and Rachel is great as always, but concrete projects are a miss for me.
Yeah, they lost me as soon as they said its recyclable. Its really hard to reuse concrete since it affects the resistance of the material, and it really depends on the country's availability of recyclers. Its really good because its durable, but it really should be used for things you expect to keep for a long time
That’s what I was thinking as well. Tbh it’s not the first time when they have false info in the video, which is weird because little research would make facts clear and for that size of a channel you’d think they would do their research. And speaking of sustainability they could’ve used recycled materials in concrete to make it sturdy.
I wonder what that chair is going to look like after year or another outside due to all the holes.
@@ferni24 I also wonder if it’s even recyclable if it contains other materials mixed in, like for example styrofoam like they suggested in this video.
You mentioned it having a geode effect- I would have totally sat there and added something in the cracks around the side of the table! (Crushed glass is inexpensive and you can adhere it with E6000 or another similar glue) would take awhile but could be SO WORTH IT.
Great idea!
Id love to see this!
I was thinking an epoxy pour. I don't know about you, but my coffee table gets REALLY used and to think of cleaning out all those crevices when it gets dirty, give me anxiety...although a steam-cleaner high-pressure blast would work for that, but still, so many areas for hidden bacteria and grime. These projects are awesome though!
Love the idea of adding into the cracks! Crystals would be beautiful put into a few places.
Wow! I am stunned at how gorgeous this table turned out!
My Dad was a stone mason and Bricklayer. Watching you made me re-appreciate the skills, the Art, the Phenomenal-ness of the Artisan. Whoooo hooo. I'd really like a slew of backyard furnishings...very wild shapes of concrete. Wow. Never thought of this medium. Thanks for your work.
Rachael brings so much to The Sorry Girls! Her videos are different enough to bring something new, techniques, video style, personality... But it's not too different, so it still feels like a Sorry Girls video :)
Adding different aggregate, such as perlite or vermiculite rather than rocks is a way to reduce the weight significantly.
Yes! Using vermiculite or perlite is often called Hupertufa
lmao TSG: "be sure to wear a mask while mixing concrete" also TSG *has masks on the ground instead of their faces while mixing concrete*
Great project tho! It turned out awesome
They were outside though
@@MsRainingDays concrete powder is extremely fine and can irritate your lungs. not worth the risk
I love love love Rachels addition to the sorry girls. 💛
Very nice projects. It is always nice and encouraging to see you getting new skills. Unfortunatly I don't think concrete is very environment friendly. It has a quite high CO2 footprint and as far as I know after a very quick research the so called recycling is more like a downcycling which means it is not used as concrete again.
Of course it is fine to use it, but I would not call it environmently friendly.
There’s also a global sand shortage. People in places like India are being murdered for illegally harvested sand for concrete materials
This was sooooo ambitious and it paid off!!! Obsessed with that table 🔥 And the chair!?! So much texture, love love love.
YESSSSSSSS!!!! More concrete furniture!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both of these pieces are SO amazing.
Was amazed how easily it all slipped out of the moulds. Looks so good hope you do more.
Omg the coffee table is so cute! Great job, Rachel! 🤍
Just for anyone watching this and interested in doing the same or similar, make sure to wear gloves and a MASK. Concrete and stone dust can and will severely harm your lungs as it’ll stay there. So when mixing, when sanding, when doing anything with stone or concrete, wear a mask (specifically a dust mask)
Rachel videos are quickly becoming my favorite.
Love these pieces! Would love to see you design and make a custom cushion for the chair!!
Rachel! These were so good, holy crap!! And I loved the extra sheen that came from the sealant. Amazing editing too, as always! Ty editorsss 👏🎶
You’re killing it Rachel!
OMG the, look just amazing 😍 I'm completely in love with both of them 😁
You did just a fabulous job 👏👏👏
Rachael is back!!! Yay!!! Amazing job concrete build. Both look awesome and unique. Great video!
They're both absolutely stunning.. hell no even in my younger days I wouldn't have done this it's a lot of work!
I love how in love Rachel is with her project!
So well done! Both table and the chair look amazing. Love that you left them in the natural colour and didn't paint them. Great job. 💫
Wow wow wow! Both projects are STUNNING! Well done! Beautiful pieces!
Best sorry girls video ive seen in a long time! Super impressive and quite a daring task to take on! Love the content
FIIIIIIRE !!! it came out so so so gorgeous omg!!
Lol @ the editors repeatedly calling you out for not wearing your dust masks! 😂 this was cool, kind of an expert version of the concrete stools that tsg made back in the day
Wow!!! Those turned out incredible!!!!
I'm obsessed with the chair! It's so lovely and I love it. You did amazing, Rachael 😁
What a beautiful set of patio furniture! Stunningly beautiful
Amazing! love your style and DIY's Rachael, feeling so inspired.
Love, love, live this! Since I'm setting here crocheting a shoe sole out of the macrame cord. I would change the top shape. Because funnily it looks like my crochet sole... But it's really so beautiful & if I wasn't doing this crochet sole, I would have never even thought about it.. once you see it you can't unsee it!
I'm dieing to try something like this! I would love to do concrete countertops. And I love the white concrete more than any I have seen... just really takes it up a notch or 2!
Wow!!!!!! These DIYs left me speechless!!!! 😲 You took DIYing to a whole new level! 😱
I love these! So beautiful!
I've seen some people use concrete over their old laminate countertops, and I would LOVE to see you guys try that!!
Me to! I wanna try that on mine. But afraid would love a utube video on ppl. Trying that.
THE WAY IVE BEEN WAITING ALL DAY FOR THIS- I NEED MY TUESDAY SORRY GIRL JUICE TO SURVIVE
Seriously! I’ve been refreshing my yt feed.
@@xRhythmxBeatx me too!!
I loooove these pieces! I figured they would turn out really nice but these went beyond my expectations by far!!
Awesome Rachel!!!❤️❤️❤️ Concrete is great for all kinds of cool things. I had never explored white concrete. Thank you so much for the inspo & info!!!❤️❤️❤️
When you used the water bottles for the leg shapes that made me so happy 😂 my mum uses big coke bottles for so many random gardening and DIY purposes!!
Wow just love the effect stone and concrete 😍 you really nailed that project 👍🏻
You should be SOOOOOOO PROUD!!!! I am proud for you!!!!! I am absolutely going to attempt this, and taking my cues from both your video and from your amazing comment section, I believe that it will be a smashing success!!!!! Thanks ladies and wish me luck!!! 💜🤜🤛💜
Wow…this is next level stuff. Love it and love love love Rachael. Well Done 👍🏻
Great projects!
The chair is impressive especially how you figured out how to do it!
Bu I gotta admit the table is my fave!
*cheff’s kiss*
The table looks great but the chair is particularly eye-catching with all its texture and grooves! Concrete is really fun to play with, I made candle holders with beer cans last year! But I’d love to make them again with the material you used to make it white, and then seal them.
Also, this is the third time I’ve seen Rachael make a plate of eggs and sliced avocado. Healthy and delicious! 😂😉
the coffee table is everything
That table is chefs kiss! Great work!!
The coffee table is insane! Love it so much!!!
love this project and it is so well explained! thank you!
Your best project so far!!! I love it!
Loved both of your projects. Well done Rachel🥰
I. Love. Them. Love them. Gonna do it. Your style is so sleek, I love it.
Can’t believe how they turned out! Blessed and safe days!
Both projects turned out AWESOME!!
Love the texture!! Love Rachel too!! ❤️
I love your videos Rachel! You are awesome! And your project is so complex and so rewarding! 😉☺️🥳 Keep doing this amazing job babe 🔅
Both the table and the chair turned out amazing!!
The coffee table turned out absolutely amazing 👏😍🥰
I absolutely love that coffee table!! I've been trying to find one I like with no luck. Maybe I need to make it myself. ❤️❤️
i really like these 'cooking vlog' style shots in between the steps of the project, so cute and calming!
Honestly one of my favourite diys yet!
That's sooo cool Rachel 😍😍😍 I love the coffee table so much... 💕
I think it’s beautiful!! It makes lovely outdoor furniture!! 😍🔥
Love love the coffee table. It is so unique!
Bravo, Rachel. Best video yet. They’ve all been awesome, but I really enjoyed this one.
thank you!!😊
Wow, wow, wow! They look fantastic!
Both projects turned out awesome!!!!!
I love how these turned out, I would try this for my new place
They both look great! Rachel you are a gem 💎
Lovely stuff. I love the idea of a :"moving party," where you're convincing your friends to move....one chair!
I just ran my Lomi for the first time last night and was kind of amazed by how well it worked! Going to dump the healthy compost into my flower bed tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the Lomi is just a scam and I wish TSG wouldn’t promote it as good for the environment. People really fall for the idea of instant compost being possible, when the Lomi does NOT create compost. I would watch ThunderFoots video breaking it down but it’s an electricity hog and consider the carbon footprint of manufacturing and shipping the item, which will eventually be in a landfill. An outdoor compost box or a pot with a tight lid to store scraps works just as well. Lomi is essentially a giant coffee grinder and dehydrator- it does NOT and cannot create compost but rather just grinds up food - compost takes TIME and the right ecosystem to decompose and the lomi completely contradicts ideas of sustainability. Great way to take your money and increase your carbon footprint.
both pieces look AMAZING, bravo 👏🏻 👏🏻
You did an amazing job, the pieces are gorgeous.
I genuinely really love that chair. If I can find the chair you used as a mould secondhand, I think I'll make a few in different colours to put around my fire ring, since it'll be great to have something not flammable.
Love, love, love these projects!!
Obsessed with both of these but especially the chair!! Great job! You need a matching one.
these were amazing!!
That table is beautiful 😍! I want that for my living room 🙌
Stunning ! I love them
I love them. They are stunning!
Love love love the coffee table!! My hubby will love doing this project for me (really he will!! 😂) It is exactly what I wanted and a LOT less than purchasing one for sure!
Does he want to make one for me too? 🤣 jk lol I’m sure it’ll turn out great!
😂😂❤
@@JessRodriguez1111 he might have so much fun that two of them I possible 😂
Wow. Awesome DIY. I’ll probably still never do it myself, but it’s nice to know it’s possible!
These are actually amazing
Cool table and chair!!!💚💚💚💚
Omggggg i love it I want to make it !!!!!
It's stunning
The table is gorgeous!!
