      @paulgaither Před 2 lety +4

      Not talked about enough, but at that time the NFL was talking about rules changes to help return teams because kick returns had fallen off after Donte Hall was done. In fact, Hall was one of the only guys making returns. Then we got Hester and Josh Cribbs.
      Also, we had that life threatening and career ending injury to the Bills player and the NFL has turned 180 degrees and has been trying to take kick returns out of the game by increasing the starting spot of a touch back to the 25 and making the kickoff shorter by moving it from the 30 to the 35 to increase the chances of a no contact touch back.
      At some point the NFL needs to get rid of the kickoff altogether and replace it with a choice to give the ball to the other team at the 25 or to go for it (instead of an inside kick) with maybe a 4th and 15 from their 30 or 35 yard line.

      @@thepubknight6144 He’s in the Bears Hall of Fame but in my opinion he got snubbed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame committee. I hate this idea of players who spent most of their career on special teams not being given fair consideration for the HOF. If you’re the best player ever at a certain position, you deserve to be enshrined into Canton. It’s why Ray Guy is in the HOF, it’s why Adam Vinatieri will also get his gold jacket someday as well. Devin Hester and that Bears defense pretty much carried them all the way to the Super Bowl in 2006. It wasn’t just taking a kickoff or punt return all the way for a touchdown, it was also consistently setting the offense up in great field position. That won so many games for them.
      For those who think special teams isn’t all that important, consider this: in 2010, the San Diego Chargers had the top ranked offense and top ranked defense in the league. They went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. Why? Because their special teams was the worst in the NFL. Just imagine how far that team could’ve gone if they had a Devin Hester as a return specialist.

    Kinda shocked that Prime Time and Sean Taylor weren’t mentioned after their standout rookie seasons but still a great round up of players.

    Nick Bosa deserves a honorable mention. 13 sacks, 30 QB hits and 91 pressures by a rookie demolishes the previous rookie pressure record (Including playoffs). He had 12 or so pressures in the Superbowl alone, and probably would've been SB Mvp if 49ers didn't choke.

    Kicker: Jason Hanson (Lions 1992) Only kicker ever named Offensive Rookie of the Year.
    Punter: Riley Dixon (Broncos 2016) Highest net average by a rookie in NFL history.
    Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh (49ers 2011) Took a team that went 6-10 the previous year and hadn't had a winning season in 9 years to a 13-3 record and the NFC Championship game.

    I'm curious, how was Deion's rookie year? Palomalu? Sean Lee? Did they take time to develop?

    Devin Hester.....you are RIDICULOUS!!!
    My favorite call from Bears AM radio. Jeff Joniak breaks out the ridiculous line once in a while, but its not the same as when Devin Hester would change the game.

    May not be on this list for rookies, but Louis Wright for the Broncos is one of the best CBs of all time. Man needs to get the recognition he deserves.

    Everson Walls 11 ints as a rookie was impressive! I think he should be in the HOF! He had to cover guys like Art Monk ,Roy Green, Earnest Grey,J.T Smith and Mike Quick twice a year.
