That is how you learn and grow!! I cooked professionally for 24 years. I was always ahead of people my age in the business. I would always listen to other peoples ideas, and help them improve them. And I appreciate their scrutiny even more. I wouldn't ask my Sous chef what he thought of something, I'd have the dishwasher, and a server taste it. Then if it worked, I'd run it as a special. If it performed well and the cost was cheap with good mark-up it went on the menu. Its important to listen to others. Even as a pro. Not everyone thinks the same way. And its beautiful

He would also be reading and evaluating leading-edge scientific papers in scientific journals for many years for that doctor's degree, which easily qualifies him to evaluate anything scientific that Tesla may have done. But Tesla seems not to have written up anything in a scientific manner (even found later unpublished) or published in an outright science journal. Practical engineering being loose about science is normal, so that's OK, except that Tesla was below incompetence at engineering. He was menace. Whatever Tesla advanced, it was beyond science or engineering.
      Tesla originally talked sponsors into paying for his education. Then spent the money on whatever. Then talked them into doing it again. Then Tesla quit his education before he got any degree. Now that's a genius!
      George Westinghouse bankrolled an endrun around Edison's patents by using AC. Westinghouse, in the advertising, needed to counter Edison's legendary genius status (used in all Edison ads) and so produced their own Westinghouse legend, Nikola Tesla. Tesla invented things, like many others. But the Westinghouse advertising budget paid to make one into a legend.

In that interview stated about ☝🏽 he justified one’s ability to change gender and compete in a specific sport base on certain characteristics. My main point is when we die our skeletal remains will tell our past down to the sex ….. when we introduce the concept of the word spectrum then it introduces the question of one’s cognitive thinking. So that being said I have a right to question his thinking. Never said his work is irrelevant but its questionable.

    • @bpholton1109
      @bpholton1109 Před 7 dny +3

      @@MulaGreene I both agree and disagree with you. I'll try to be succinct, but brevity is not my strong suit, so bear with me.
      (1) Did he actually justify "one's ability to change gender," or did he argue for the freedom of people to be able to express themselves and their genders as they see fit? There is a difference there. I agree with scientists like Richard Dawkins in that changing one's sex is biologically impossible, but I also agree with the more liberal leaning scientists like NDT that we should still treat trans people like people with rights and feelings. I don't think demonizing them or actively discriminating against them is the right move, especially when we could use the opportunity to establish better, more inclusive frameworks for doing things.
      (2) I cannot argue with you that in sports, physiological differences matter. They absolutely do, especially in contact sports. But I think that it's worthwhile exploring finer classification schemes, as NDT suggested in the interview, just for the sake of seeing what can be done. If we can find ways to match male and female athletes fairly while still considering their biological similarities and differences, why shouldn't we at least try? I'm not saying pin a male football team against a female football team, but I'm sure something can be done -- perhaps coed track and field as a start. Systems can always be improved. That was one of NDT's key positions in this discussion. Another key point of his in that interview was that we should prioritize getting to the root of the problem, rather than making a laundry list of qualifying statements to justify the current system. That's what we as scientists do.
      (3) Men and women already compete in sports all the time, so I don't quite understand why this is an issue just because trans people are involved. That makes the opposition's stance transparent: it isn't about fairness in sports, it's about disliking trans people, which isn't a reason to ban someone from competing in a sport they like. Coed sports exist around the world, and have for centuries. It's usually mixed doubles, but men and women also compete one-on-one in things like karate and judo, where there's a definite risk of injury. No one took issue with any of this until trans people got involved, and that leads me to think it's precisely because trans people got involved that this is a problem. People, conservatives especially, just do not like trans people. They make that abundantly clear as they piss and moan about it online daily.
      (4) The "future archaeologist" hypothetical is one of the most irrelevant arguments you could have made here. Unless we're burying athletes in sports arenas with plaques conveying the teams they played on, whether a future archaeologist digs up a trans woman and finds a male skeleton has nothing to do with sports or with social interactions (which are the primary feature of society). The fact of the matter is that we as a society interact in a social way, not a biological way. What I mean by that is we treat each other as fellow human beings, and not as biological systems. I do not speak to you as if I'm speaking to a wet sack of meat with a skeleton and a specific sex region. You're a person with your own identity and your own thoughts, feelings, and ambitions. We treat each other this way in every situation except the trans one, where the only feelings that seem to matter are one side's or the other's, depending on who you ask. But the social aspect -- the identity aspect -- is what matters in our everyday experience. So why is the anti-trans camp pretending biology takes precedence now?
      (5) You can absolutely call his reasoning about trans people in sports into question. What I'm saying is you shouldn't make the mistake of calling his work in astrophysics "questionable" just because of one personal stance he took that you disagreed with. The two aren't remotely connected. He's a trained astrophysicist with publications in star formation and galaxy evolution. He's still a credible astrophysicist regardless of his opinion on trans people. It's upsetting that we seem to be moving in the direction where, if an expert is "wrong" on one thing, the public assumes they're automatically wrong about everything else. That's simply not how it works, and I feel if more people were scientifically literate, they'd be able to handle situations like these with more tact and more civility.

      NDT handled the situation as any trained scientist would in the case when a non-scientist with (let's face it) a piss poor comprehension of basic science calls into question what we know and understand as a community. Terrence Howard's "proof" started off with a fundamentally wrong idea, and lead to an objectively wrong conclusion after 36 pages of mostly non sequitur gibberish. The document has a series of provably false science fiction narratives in it, and concludes with a bunch of irrelevant pieces of art that are not "the geometry of hydrogen" as Terrence claims. A hydrogen atom doesn't have an intrinsic geometry. It's just a proton and an electron -- maybe just the proton if it's an H+ ion. Whether you like it or not, Terrence Howard is wrong because the evidence doesn't match up with what he's saying. He can pull images from Google, lie about his patents and education, and make 3D models of Saturn on Blender all he wants, but that isn't science. He needs data, and until he can provide it, no scientist is obligated to take his claims seriously.
