Let's face it: the only reason they cast her as Meemaw was because she got an Oscar nomination. The woman we see on 'Young Sheldon', though, was PERFECT.

Well obviously this is before young Sheldon they had to show a Meemaw that would appear older than the one in Young Sheldon so I don't understand what the problem with June Squibb playing Meemaw is ? She was quite good though

@@hsd287 actually no this episode came out during the first season of young Sheldon so they could have Annie if they wanted I’ve always thought it was weird. They chose to completely change her character, especially since this came out during the first season of young Sheldon in 2017. It’s really really weird, especially since both shows the same creator

Annie Potts was the best actor in either YS or TBBT.
This definitely feels like a much older and mellowed out Meemaw, but she has the same sass and sarcasm from Young Sheldon. The only difference is the appearance but 20 years can shrink and soften somebody.
She didn't have much sass against Sheldon though, like in one of the last episodes of Young Sheldon when he called her old over the phone and she hung up.
Unfortunately we’v been spoiled by the amazing performance of Annie Potts that it completely undid this entire storyline because this version of Meemaw is so much different than Annie Potts’ version
But this is years later after Meemaw has done her community service and been slowed down. 10-12 years later is a long time for an old person.

Everyone saying she is better in YS, she acts the same for me, just changed physically due to her age and change of habits but is the same old crazy meemaw 😂
Until Sheldon leaves the room, I wouldn't be convinced. After though? I can definitely picture Annie Pots reading the exact same lines.

When George Sr.died Mary had a break down. Meemaw and Georgie had to take care of everyone. George death had a big impact on the family
Yeah, 2016 Meemaw may be acting like a sweet little octogenarian in front of Sheldon but I have no doubt she has a hidden itinerary of gambling, line dancing, and other mischief that Moonpie would never suspect.
You know, if you think about the dialogue, it’s not that hard to imagine Annie Potts saying it. The two performances don’t marry perfectly, but it’s not as jarring as I remember.
Yes, except meemaw was never grandma soft. Annie Potts portrayal is like she will be tough right to her grave.

I can't see YS's Mee Maw behaving like that I would think she would have reacted more like Mary amazed that Sheldon has found someone and treated Amy the way she treated Mandy and said something like " Your mother told me but I had to see it for myself " I think YS Connie would have been comical throughout their first meeting

From watching young Sheldon Annie Potts and the actress playing meemaw on tbbt had a sass to her. That definitely showed in meemaw on young Sheldon and big bang
When I was a little kid my Grandma was pretty easy-going and only stirred up trouble when it was really necessary to stand up for herself or someone else. By the time I was in my early teens and beyond she had become so consumed by politics and "the poor state of the world," plus she was alone a lot due to retirement and not getting involved in things. She really had nothing else to talk about after watching lots of news and listening to very charged up radio shows. Lots of family members pointed out how much she had changed in a short period of time after my grandpa passed. Loved her so much and still do though she's gone, but the point is that people can change in a really short period of time depending how life goes. I could see this being Mee Maw several years into the future being alone with her thoughts and stewing on if Sheldon will be truly loved for who he is by someone she's never met. Whether or not the Mee Maw of TBBT is how we envisioned Mee Maw from YS to end up years in the future, I don't think it's entirely inaccurate for her to be this way, especially given how her family started to fall apart in front of her after George's death.

I read somewhere that there was a deleted scene where Sheldon gets a call from Meemaw (voiced by Annie Potts) who apologizes for not being up to making the trip. (To be fair, she'd be in her 90's by that point).
It's a health issue thing. Meemaw's already in her late 80s to early 90s by the time of Shamy's wedding.

People be really living in this "world" rather than reality. 20 years has passed from young sheldon to TBBT, of course everyone changed including meemaw. My late grandmother was very strict and somewhat got attitude when I was still in college (I feared her at all) but when we got older 15 years later, she was almost 90 during that time, she became so sweet, nice and she's hardly strict anymore. Old people tend to mellow down. This is what happened with meemaw her in TBBT especially since Mary experience a great deal of depression after george died. People change. Remember that they experience a 360 life turn after george died and we didn't know the battles they had after sheldon left for college.

Because Young Sheldon didn't exist yet, Season 9 of TBBT aired from 2015-2016 and Young Sheldon didn't premiere until 2017
