  • Not so much a review but rather me trying to talk about how the DRZ handles compared to the HGD1 in particular. Both are very capable cars, but I'll give the edge to the DRZ.

    To be honest I'm not really happy about the quality of the video, but laziness got to me so this is what I got for now.
    Ended up slurring a lot from being anxious. Too lazy to rerecord some of the things as I already assembled the BM Racing steering on the DRZ.
    My thoughts:
    As I always push the car till the limit of the steering lock, I prefer how DRZ handles personally, as it's easier to save the car as it does not spin out as fast.
    HGD1 has slightly more steering lock than the DRZ, so depending on your driving style, you may actually prefer more lock from the HGD1, and find it easier to drive.
    However when staying within the limits, both cars handle really good, with the HGD1 being more sensitive to steering inputs(reacts more sharply).
    [- It can be setup dependent, but generally it's like this as HGD1 has 0 caster setup -]
    You can probably help the tame the handling of the HGD1 by using front tyres with less grip.
    Also, HGD1 has no upgrades short of DIY projects. For the DRZ there's the very expensive Super Skeeter kit, and the BM Racing conversion, which can include steering/motor mount separately.
    However, other than these two I think it's also worth taking a look at Techstorm's XRX DPA series, the XRX DPA Sport and Mk1 seems to have all the setup ability of the DRZ and have the steering lock to go with it. I do not have access to one yet, and content on it is lacking at the moment. But you can try to search about it on Facebook.

    Great video!! thanks for sharing your knowlenge. I have the drz with stock set up and GL Racing's GLA esc and is really an enjoyable car to drift. It's great to know more about how the car performs, and all the technichal details you give. I have pre-ordered the XRX DPA sport, so, waiting also for your opinion about it. Saludos, amigo

    • @BlitzWorks
      @BlitzWorks Před 4 lety

      It has been mentioned in his other videos and i have had the same experience, it needs a lot of tweaking. you can get there quicker with weights but with extra tunning beyond that the weights re not required
      i have the super skeeter kit and have had to be really careful with clearances as more than once this has caused front wheel lockage but the base DRZ should be better in this regard

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  Před 4 lety

      As mentioned I think the stock setup is already really good, and barely requires tweaking. If there were any, I'd adjusting the toe in a way that the front wheels do not ever toe in, so parallel or slightly towards toe out.
      Also with stock setup you may realise that the front wheels may lift at max lock, it's normal but if you don't want that to happen you can remove the shock collars for the front shocks, and make sure the front and rear suspension is completely smooth and can go up and down with the force of gravity without the shocks installed.

    Hi, thanks for great video. For DRZ, Would you recommend using wide tire on the rear and lock the diff? My DRZ is difficult to hold drift for larger circle, when I increase throttle to try to drift larger circle, the car spins. Can you give me some tips on how to set it up? My gyro is already at 50%, turns up gyro make it twitch too much. Thanks.

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  Před 3 lety

      You can try going for harder front springs and softer rear springs, and then add some additional weight to the front of the car so that the front has more momentum when sliding. If you have close to 90 degrees of steering lock you can try to have a very slight toe in to allow the car to crab walk and let it drift "straighter", otherwise it'll be better for a parallel toe setup(at full lock) or slightly toed out.
      Personally I like the wider rear tires for more traction + gyroscopic stability on throttle, but it's normally up to preference. If the surface you're drifting on is not giving consistent traction, locking the diff will definitely make it more predictable and easier to control. With the extra weight up front it should also help reduce the gyro wobble, but generally it's good to turn it as high as possible without any wobble at all.

For now it's a toss up between the DRZ & the DPA I'm undecided still . love the red parts but the rack on the DPA looks like the next step up . The Full option DPA Looks Like a real champion but they are out of stock and looks like it's going to stay that way for a LLLOOONG Time :( . Would you say it's better to invest in a decent car with good electronics or A really good chassis with decent electronics?

    • @Auranapse
      @Auranapse  Před 4 lety

      @@killahkay2112 Sorry for late reply as there was no notification on my side :O
      Indeed, I think the XRX DPA may be the way to go as it seems really well made, but with the BM steering kit the DRZ may be better, but will have to see once I try the DPA.
      I got the ESC from the GL Racing's GLA, GSC V1.2, same battery terminals as the DRZ and similar to the stock atomic one but so far it is working really well.
      To be honest I would go with good chassis with decent electronics, the handling of the car is mostly from the chassis design, and while electronics may bog down a car, some of the electronics that matter the most like the servo and gyro, have really good budget options that I myself use for the DRZ, that works brilliantly.
      Particularly the Mini Q metal gear servo Beaver's Hobby reviewed earlier czcams.com/video/r_IlglTPhas/video.html
      and the AFRC GYS-2 V2 Gyro, which is seemingly a clone of the hackslider mini gyro.

    • @Auranapse

      Unfortunately not, 94mm is default and you will need to buy 90mm chassis or adjustable chassis for it.
