Kong: Skull Island - Caravan of Garbage

- Instead of jumping directly into another Godzilla movie after Godzilla 2014 the inexplicable decision was made to make a King Kong prequel set during the events of the Vietnam War. Completely revamping the character in a new narrative absolutely pays off in what is one of the more more fun, gory and entertaining Monsterverse movies that brings together Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Sam Jackson and more. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review

#Godzilla #KingKong #Monarch - Zábava
Kong deciding not to kill Brie Larson and Tom Hiddelston because they’re too good-looking is such a funny idea.
That's Kong's thing. If you're good looking enough he'll let you live
One of em carries a whole ass bakery
It's a VERY King Kong thing though.
Captain flatass could go.
Your the type of guy to own a fake wwe belt
The commitment to the awful sucked off bit is why I like these two. Incredible chemistry and incredible series.
Sometimes these boys are a bit RUDE and I can't handle it
Nah these guys talk too much, I want more pictures of people reloading
@lootjunior need more helicopters flying past sunsets
"no need to rush... Give me a minute" 🤣
Getting sucked off by monsters? Don't threaten me with a good time.
The reason why Kong leave Hiddleston and Larson alone is solely due to them are holding hands. Because, as we saw with the Kong skeletons, that is something that Kongs tend to do, so he saw a parallel between them and his dead parents.
It's never spelt out in the movie, but I think I like that level of subtlety.
yeah but also they're too hot to kill
OH. MY. GOD. What a nice and clever detail!
Kongs are friends
Dumb😂😂
Nice that a film finally accurately captures the gorilla warfare tactics of the viet kong
Finally
Well done
For the longest time since I heard it for the first time, I wondered why it was called gorilla warfare, a couple weeks ago I was riding on my motorcycle and my brain clicked, it's guerilla I had seen it written before, but it never read as the same thing.

The production designer for this movie, Stefan Dechant, came to my Production Design class in film school to talk about and show us some BTS of the movies he’s worked on. He said the Skullwalkers were inspired by Cubone as well as No Face from Spirited Away, and that the tall, bipedal silhouette of Kong is due to a sketch Vogt-Roberts drew very early on based on Johnny Cash: tall, long legged, broad shoulders.
And a lot of the creatures and giant monsters are inspired by real animals and insects in which they shot the movie, particularly Vietnam, so that the creatures would feel indigenous and natural to the environment
Thank you for sharing. I found this quite intresting
I thought this was a fucking blue harvest joke at first
I was expecting the same.@@CaptainArthanos
Thought this was gonna be a Blue Harvest bit...
@@CaptainArthanoswe’ve been so primed to expect Blue Harvest jokes now, it’s rare to see someone actually just sharing trivia😂
The second Jim clip made me realize something I love about this channel that basically no one else does. The editor(s) basically add in a third voice to the video, via the really specific and sometimes shockingly appropriate clips. And all the little blink-and-you-miss-it jokes make it worth actually watching rather than just listening to the audio. Never stop. Corn of Coblin 2024
Yeah it's sick :)
It's like the horse fm Road to El Dorado
This is why I've found myself watching the CZcams versions of podcasts bits I've already listened to. The editing is THAT GOOD
You mean the one at 5:17 ?
Yeah, it was like the editor is concerned about that bit coming again
That's why I'm always sure to actually watch their videos rather than just listen like I would with a lot of movie review/discussion channels. The boys are obviously hilarious, but honestly, for me, the editors are what make this channel special for me.
💯
This movie is my example for where characters can have no real arcs but at least have colorful personalities
Honestly the end scene with john c reilly is probably the most cinematically satisfying moment post-2014 godzilla atomic breathe power-ups in this franchise.
I was worried he was going to die when I first saw this movie, probably do an honorable sacrifice or so. I'm so happy he got his good ending.
It wasa so nice and wholesome. Also his son in the film plays young him.
Fun Fact: The outfit worn by Bill Randa (John Goodman) replicates the outfit worn by Robert Armstrong as Carl Denham in King Kong (1933).
James and Maso being oblivious that they are simply a vehicle for masterful editing and memes.
"Help! I'm being sucked off by these monsters!" has got me crying at 9am on a Thursday.
Jon Goodman is one of the most low key best actors ever
The Dude abides.
The Dude abides.
Wait I thought Tom Hiddleston was Loki?
@@patrickm37 yes he is
The edit of Maso hitting his head on the table instead of his hand is SUBLIME
Of all the new “Monsterverse” movies, this one is my favorite. It has the perfect balance of style, fun, cool monster fights, and interesting humans.
And the story is actually thoughtfully written!!
Even then, it was still mediocre. Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson have zero backstory, yet they're the two leads.
@@ComedyBros5 the movie’s not called “weaver and captain Conrad”, it’s called skull island
@@Skiivin An absurd amount of screen time was given to the two leads in the film (Hiddleston and Larson), implying that we were expected to care for their characters but they were the most hollow characters in the story. It's weak writing.
@@ComedyBros5 I would argue they play the everyman characters that are a stand-in for the audience and the real lead is John C Reilley, and I’d say they succeed at being written to react to things how anyone in the audience would. Besides it’s more about the events that take place on the island and the journey than it is a character study of anyone in the cast
Something I greatly appreciated in this movie is that most of the CGI heavy scenes (by which I mean, the monster scenes) are in daylight. What I mean by that is, a lot of these CGI heavy blockbusters, including Godzilla 2014, have their big set piece moments in the dark. I assume it's to save some time and money by having an OK model and the darkness is hiding the flaws. In this movie, there's only two scenes where the monsters are in darkness: when Kong meets Tom and Brie, and immediately following that where he's off to attack Sam L Jackson. EVERY OTHER SCENE it's light out, and it was just a nice change of pace from what felt like every other movie trying to hide things.
Man, this movie was just so much fun! They absolutely understood the assignment with it. Kinda wish they'd gotten this director to do Godzilla vs Kong.
Shame the Monsterverse never really understood the assignment since.
Nah GvK was fine
Godzilla Vs Kong was a fun movie, I wish Godzilla 2 had a fun director like this did.
I found the movie boring.
Godzilla vs Kong was everything it needed to be
The sucked off bit might be the rudest Nick Mason moment
I would expect such rudeness from Mr. Scumbag Movies or Little James, not Nick "Pig Rolling Down a Hill" Mason!
@@muditjain5765Evil James has corrupted sweet Nick “Bond Suits” Mason!!! Mr. Sunday Movie is over!!!

“Overdosed on MCU quippy snark”
This 10000%. I rewatched Pacific Rim the other day and it was refreshing how straight everyone plays it (with the exception of the doctors and Hannibal Chow, all of whom are perfect).
Pacific rim 2 is very quippy though
The most unbelievable part about this movie with giant monsters is that when John C Reilley went home, he wasn't greeted at the door by her husband of 10 years and 2 other kids while they all stand there awkwardly.
Truly fiction is where we can act out our greatest fantasies
Or the hundred and 8 helicopters taking off from that cargoship lol
WW2 generation had more standards compared to us today. 😂
2:31 ' Don't need to rush' - maybe the funniest thing James has ever said
Having worked on this film I think I could offer some valuable insight. The change to the Vietnam era was met with some apprehension from the studio executives initially but they came around to it but did ask for one scene to be cut. That scene was a classic napalm scene across a Vietnamese village during harvesting season. The unique twist on it was because of the unique flora and fauna the flames would turn blue… which lead to the working title for this film being ‘Blue Harvest’
Had me in the first half not gonna lie
James would be so proud of this comment 👌🏾
@@WhelmedButReadyRIP
That scene of the skullcrawler absolutely super smash bros tail slapping him into the mountain is one of the best moments in all of them 🤣and in any movie for a while at that time, unexpected, hilarious and a little somber knowing it's for nothing 😂
All that's missing is a sad trombone after.
It's become the number 1 clip that gets posted completely out of context on social media to farm bewildered and angry "Can't beleive this film is meant to be good!" reactions from people too. People acting like somehow the director, actors, editors, post production, producers and tech artists made it that way as a mistake.
The giant spiders were definitely a highlight. They managed to create such implied gruesome horror within the confines of a 12a (or PG13 for Americans) rating. I remember seeing this in the cinema when I was a lot younger and that scene stuck with me
A lot younger? It only came out 6 years ago 😅 I'm just messing with you as I'm getting old, please take no offense to my shenanigans 😂
@@asa-punkatsouthvinland7145difference between 12 and 18 is pretty big😂

This is by far the best 'movie review' content on the Internet. No self important 'film critics', just two aussies and a film, nuf said
The fact that the design for the Skull Crawlers is directly inspired by Cubone is way funnier than it should be 😂
That can’t be right. Kongs the one without parents.
In true “You didn’t mention this” fashion, I can’t let them get away with this… John C Reilly’s boat is named “Grey Fox” as a nod to the Metal Gear Solid character. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is currently attached to direct the Metal Gear Solid movie.
Incidentally, his likeness was used for a character in Death Stranding which was created by Hideo Kojima, who created the Metal Gear franchise.
Absolutely loved this movie. The one thing that stood out to me in this movie is the fact that the humans are by no means the main character, which I feel is greatly reflected in the deaths of a lot of them. The amount of emphasis put on certain humans for them to be snuffed out so fast, and without much fanfare is so apparent. Samuel L Jackson's character doesn't get this big villain ending, he just gets crushed and forgotten. Shea Whigham gets this big, emotional sacrifice, that yields no results. Toby Kebbell has this hopeful, sad little narrative that just ends so fast, and no one even notices. It does so well at focusing on the fact that Kong is the main character. (Although I definitely feel Tom Hiddleston's character wasn't necessary, and ultimately feels out of place.)
I don't think Sam's character would even mind that. Either he stops the threat, or dies a proper death trying, so he doesn't feel ashamed for being told to leave business in Nam anymore.
All that and you couldn't work in Blue Harvest?
@@jacktadashwhat i was expecting😂
The pov character isn't necessary? He's more necessary than Larson's. I had legit forgotten she was in this when me and a friend talked about this movie before.
@@DSan-kl2ycyou can't have a King Kong movie without a woman for Kong to simp over.
The moment where Brie Larson is trying to lift some wreckage off an animal and Kong just magically appears is hilarious to me. Makes me laugh everytime, cos it's just like, suddenly, KONG! He's surprisingly sneaky for a giant monster xD
Shea Wigham’s death is, to this day, one of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie.
Yes it is
It was genius and completely caught me off guard!
You genuinely believe he's gonna be a hero at first. The fact that his explosion in the air is so violent as well.... You can't help but burst out laughing.
I love that they made the main skull walker in this such an A-hole it makes you root for Kong even more
This was one of the last film I got to take my nan to before she passed. She really was my kindered spirit.
blessings and peace
I love Godzilla but personally I think this is the best of the Monsterverse movies. Probably because it doesn’t cut away to characters doing boring shit constantly and stays confined to the action on the island.
lol i died at the "he's a magilla" and the editing, very good throwback
Godzilla minus one looks so so good and it's actually hitting u.s. theaters. Not like the 90s when you find they never stopped making godzilla films
I'll never forget watching this film in the cinema with my mate. When he fell into the rusty ship we both turned to each other and whispered "mecha Kong" and we both burst out laughing.
Cinematography is spectacular in this film
2:23 Andy Serkis: "Help, I'm being sucked off by these monsters!"
Archer: "Heh heh...phrasing."
5:16: "You get bloody sucked off by this creature!"
Archer: "Hey! Phrasing!"
I remember being so pleasantly surprised by how earnest this one was. Great movie
That's it. I know I stayed up too long cooking for thanksgiving if when I'm finally getting in bed the new caravan of garbage is already posted 😅
The snake giving the finger made me burst out laughing
2:49 the imagery alone Mason😂 but no that is honestly one of the best parts of the movie, Kong's breathe from his nose bringing up all the dust? So good
A Giant Tiger reference in Caravan of Garbage, what a time to be alive 🇨🇦
I don't understand anyone's mind behind complaining that you guys talk too much. That is literally what I'm here for. Your rapport is the entertainment. That and James occasionally having a meltdown over something anyway. Absolutely hilarious when that happens. There are thousands of channels that talk about the same stuff you do, you're the the reason I listen.
I've been detecting some subtle, ignorant right-wing anti woke BS in some of their comments these past few months. Makes sense they would get on that grift.
I miss Rodney!
Definitely the best/most fun of the Monsterverse, really sticks with you how brutal it is for PG-13. Saw this in the cinema, a lady sitting near me was audibly traumatized at every gory death... It was wonderful!
Easily the best of the monster movies in this series!
Can we please bring back the guy that yells “Rodney” for the trivia section? 🙏🏼
Did you know that during the scene where Tom Hiddleston used the gas mask and the sword to fight the flying creatures, Tom has said he used a bushido blade learning from an old swordsman trained to be a samurai on how to wield it one handed. The swordsman is on record as saying Tom learned the way of the samurai, even mastering his technique but what was most impressive to the samurai was Toms ability to freestyle into his own sword style that was fast, violent and yet elegant in nature. When asked what Tom had named this style the samurai, with fear in his eyes, struggled to make out the words at first but eventually yelled “BLUE HARVEST”.
I really hope this leads up to them discussing Godzilla Minus One
Cracking content as ever lads.
You cut out my favourite joke that was in the full podcast, where James mentions the “giant tiger with antlers” and then the “giant ant”…and I held my breath, willing Maso to say it and he did, adding timidly: “with tiglers….??”
I’ll never get over how well these videos are edited 👏🏻 as long as you make ‘em, I’ll watch ‘em!
The Giant Tiger reference filled my heart with joy
So glad to see Godzilla stuff on the channel. Hope you cover Godzilla minus one on the pod

I never thought people viewed ‘Cinema Sins/Win’ as actual film criticism, I just always saw it as one guy’s opinion of a film and taking the viewer over what he liked or disliked.
lost it at the cigarette ding.
The post credits of this movie is the most excited ive ever been in a cinema
Oh so that's why it's called Blue Harvest.
TBH, I kinda like Skull Island mainly cause it's one of the few King Kong movies where he actually lives
The whole sub plot of them looking for Toby Kebbel's character, radioing him, then him getting instantly eaten. *Chef's Kiss*
I made this video. I do the voices of both James and Maso who are fictional characters that I invented.
Also I did all the editing myself.
Thanks Ben for the deep Canadian cut with giant Tiger
One thing I really appreciate about you guys is that the videogame jokes actually feel genuine and not like some weird embarrassed attempt at relating to the youtube audience.
Always enjoy seeing Shea Whigham randomly pop up in films.
This film is incredible. I saw it on the same day I saw Logan (Kong in the morning, lunch, Logan in the afternoon) and was fully expecting Logan to be the film of the day. While I did enjoy Logan, I wouldn't shut up about how great Kong was for weeks. You guys talked about how it feels like a Jurassic Park film in many ways and I couldn't agree more. It has that same sense of danger and focus that the first Jurassic Park had. Keeping the action locked in on the groups on the island and keeping the setting grisly, weird and creative.
The most significant takeaway from this film was going into an early morning screening with my big brother that had brought me the ticket. Being a huge fan of the 2005 version I was very eager to enjoy the spectacle of “Big Girolla Smash🦍”but made the grave error to had taken a sentimental hat to this screening. Through all the on-screen carnage I had forgotten to get it back after setting it down to the seat next to me. I never got it back. That is all. Thank you.🙏
10:45 he's just on the couch by himself 😂🤣 I never noticed that, I think I just clocked out lol but that is hilarous
7:00 also that bad doctor doom you mentioned earlier 😅 what an unexpected glow up
Now that you mentioned Mighty Joe Young, gotta cover that and both the original King and Joe.
Sometimes my brain starts to melt with the weirdly Canadian references in the edits. I start to think there's somemodern commercial connection between Canada and Australia that I'm unaware of. And then I remember that Ben is from Canada and everything makes sense again

This movie is awesome. Jordan Vogt-Roberts needs to direct more films!
Shocked that you didn't mention that the director Jordan Vogt-Roberts was also in Hideo Kojima's game "Death Stranding" as a character just named "The Movie Director."
Kojima is obviously a fan of Kong: Skull Island lol.

The Skull Crawlers were baiaed off the 2 legged lizard in the 1933 King Kong's log pit scene.
There was also an alternative ending where Kong finds shorts, suspenders, a bow tie, and a hat
Left a Like for the fallen victims of Kong. Please, save us Godzilla.
Never saw the full version of this but a friend of mine took me down to Legendary Studios for an early screening before reshoots. Got to tour the studio before the movie and see the monster models they had for Godzilla and Kong. You get a piece of paper at the start to write down problems you had with the movie. Most of the movie was complete outside of 15% of effects. From what I've heard they did change all the problems I had in reshoots like how shoehorned in the tease for Godzilla vs Kong was. Wasn't long after this that my friend got fired along with most the American employees as China absorbed Legendary. Still have the free shirts I got.
That brief Rodney flashback shot. RIP RODNEY 2020-2022
During his twitter ‘rant’ against cinema sins, Jordan made a point to talk about the great difficulties his team went through to finish the film. Locations used and the lighting on set played havoc with the cameras they used, causing footage captured to have a strangely blue hue. The let to Jordan deciding on the working title of “Blue Harvest”. Significant amounts of post production time was dedicated to colour correcting the film.
“Blurk and yuck” - James’ reaction to Maso’s mention of Mighty Joe Young 😂
