Greyhound dog racing - Track race 480m

- What is good about greyhound racing?...Three things...
1. It’s great to watch. Greyhounds are racing athletes of tremendous grace, speed and power, so when you get six of them sprinting around a track together you produce a fast, thrilling, exciting spectacle.
2. It’s a simple sport to understand. There’s no great complications to greyhound racing and there’s just one question to answer… which of these dogs will pass the winning post first?
3. The British love their dogs and greyhounds are no exception. Great champions down the years like Mick The Miller, Scurlogue Champ and Ballyregan Bob all enjoyed devoted followings and enticed new generations of fans to the sport.

We adopted a retired racer. Amazing family dog. I love the breed.
As long as people buy dogs for companionship, adoption of retired racers/police/military dogs should be encouraged.
@Nickerson nigher diggle lol what happened?
We just got one on Saturday and she's perfect. A big lazy lump of a dog! Kids adore her xx
We too. And our greyhound is scared and shy and shocked. She can't Play, she can't stay with other dogs. Don't know what she had gone through. There is a lot of work to do but we loved her since the Moment we met each other. We will give her all the love, patience and time she needs. ❤

I absolutely love greyhounds. What's very sad is, when they're of no use anymore they get thrown into a rescue shelter. If my landlord allowed me to have dogs, greyhounds are definitely at the top of my list.
I have adopted one and they are great pets and are very quiet and love sleeping. You should ask your landlord. They only require 2 x 20 minute walks per day, always on a lead.
@@robertozube thank you Roberto. Believe me if it was allowed I'd adopt. They're gorgeous dogs in everyway. I used to rescue dogs and train them. But it's against the rules here to have pets. You enjoy your baby x
I like every dog but I never knew that
Do they have a lot of health problems or a decent life expectancy? They're very active dogs, so I wonder if the change in lifestyle causes them to slow down when they stop racing? They're basically pure muscle, so I imagine if they don't have the same active lifestyle and stay busy they may get frail or have joint problems? Or there's another dog that has a lot of health problems because of a fast metabolism and they often look really slim. I think it's called a weimareiner if I spelled that correctly lol. A CZcamsr I watch was talking about it. I wonder how these guys do when the slow down and don't use all the speed and muscle anymore 😭 or if they are like working dogs and want to be busy since they are built for speed, so they need to stay distracted so they dont get destructive or depressed? I'm not familiar with these dogs, watched a random video of fastest dog and it was a greyhound running in slowmo and the muscular frame made me go down a rabbit hole of watching these guys 🤣. I didn't realize they were that muscular. The normal ones I see at the doggy parks often look so thin and frail.
@@Honey-ny3zq a lot of greyhounds don't take to the racing industry. I can guess you feed them according to their age and backgrounds. Some greyhounds retire and still love a good run on a field but they need to be muzzled as they could see a little dog and their racing instincts may kick in. They're not vicious and very placid and quiet. I'd rather adopt any greyhound and give it so much love during it's last years of life than being stuck in a shelter. x

number 2 yes!! but number 6 my goodness!!! I was at the edge of my seat💥
#6 had three hindrances and still took second. #2 was fast and had an amazing start, of course, but #6 would have overtaken him if they had another half lap to go. #2 has some major speed but a smaller/bouncer gait, while #6 used all-out extension of his body to cover a lot of ground quickly.
我也覺得6號跑得更快,而且牠跑外圈比較不利,2號一馬當先,也很厲害。
Nice name
You have no point #2 won
Well #6 is starting on the outside, a huge disadvantage.
Speculation
If 6 was on 1 or 2, he/she definitely would have won!
Black and white shirt dog was fantastic!! Started off at last place, came in around second place. 🌟🌟👏🔥🔥🍬 The other dogs were brilliant too. 👍🤩
I feel like if black and white shirt dog didn't hit the other dog, he/she would've been in first place. But what is a world with "ifs". Congrats to 1st place!
@@42moralesangel black and white dog took the widest route on the first turn. Blue dog hugged the left side which kept her distance
I thought so too. That one got a late start, had a collision and took a wide turn, had a second little tumble with the red racer, and still passed the red dog like it was nothing. Another lap and he easily would have overtaken the blue 1st place hound.
😣⛌
You mean #6 dog.. Because there's actually a black and white dog in the race which is #4.

As long as the dogs are treated well, I personally have no problem with this sport. They are all winners in my opinion.
They are NOT treated well at all, do some research. They are pushed to their limits and many are put to sleep after or spend years in kennels as there are so many at rescue centres that it's impossible to rehome all of them. They end up with arthritis and all sorts of problems due to the training. Their trainers often mistreat and abuse them. Honestly, it's a disgusting 'sport' that is totally unecessary. All for what? So Dave down the pub can gamble his dole money.
@@Hazeydaze92 wouldn’t be surprised if they were mistreated honestly. I hope not.
breed dogs are almost never treated good
@@Hazeydaze92 You are so WRONG! Stop posting these ridiculous lies. Greyhounds get the best care and have to be 100% healthy to race. They are checked by kennel Vets every week and checked by track Vets before each race. You can't mistreat or abuse a greyhound and expect them to race their best. It's impossible and anyone with a brain knows this. They don't spend years in kennels. Greyhounds race until they are 3 or 4 years old, then they retire and go home with their owner, or they go to adoption groups and get adopted. There is a big demand for retired greyhounds, so they don't stay in adoption groups long at all. They are often adopted after a few days. Greyhounds very rarely get arthritis and if they do it's not from being over raced. They are never pushed to their limits. Greyhounds only race once or twice a week for 32 seconds. That is not pushed to their level. You really know nothing about greyhounds so you should keep your mouth shut and learn.
@@default0118 Greyhounds are always treated good, spoiled in fact. They get rub downs, whirlpool soaks, playtime, walks, swim time, sprint runs, hugs, kisses, belly rubs and Vet checked all the time.
it’s actually insane how fast they can run, my old neighbors had two of them, and when mama came home and pulled in the driveway, they would run laps around the backyard and cover the whole yard in only a few seconds
Absolutely! Greyhounds are incredible athletes with remarkable speed. It's fascinating to witness their agility and how effortlessly they cover large distances in such a short amount of time. It must have been quite a spectacle to see them running laps around the backyard. Their energy and enthusiasm are truly something else!

I had a mixed breed dog who was part greyhound and I thought he was fast until one time I saw a particularly tall pure bred at the beach. He trotted faster than most dogs can move full speed.
I had a greyhound mix too. He was half lab half greyhound, great dog. He had the skinny ness of a greyhound and deep chest, and the ears, but his face look lab. He was cute and really fast, and very obedient, but I saw him compared to a real greyhound and yeah, it’s interesting how much taller they are.

I am now on my third retired greyhound, and also have a whippet. Greyhounds make fantastic pets, even for people in urban areas.
is it true that they don't need that much physical activity?
@@amiapsychopat yes they're pretty lazy and spend much of the day asleep, although they do really enjoy a walk.
@@amiapsychopat They literally sleep 20 hours a day and don't really care for long walks, they'd rather have a 20 min run around in a big field followed by a long nap. Fantastic pets - and they hardly shed, never bark and have no doggy smell. They're so loving, sweet and gentle - I'd recommend to anyone to rescue one, you really don't need a garden. I live 8th floor apartment in London and my greyhound is more than content with her life.
do these greyhounds follow some kind of object or smell when starting the race? how do they know where to run and when the finish line has been crossed? they should need some thing to chase otherwise why would they keep running?
@@jimskeuh they chase an artificial hare / rabbit. They don't know when they have crossed the line, the lure slows and they catch it. You should watch a race on you tube to see how it works.

Greyhound races are fun to watch since it has fast action that keeps fans on the edge of their seats. Unlike horse races, greyhounds are not ridden by jockeys as they run on their own towards the finish line. The race uses an artificial lure in front of the participating dogs.

Thank you for your comment. I can assure you that the dogs in Greyhound racing are treated very well by their owners/handlers. Animal welfare is of utmost importance in any competitive dog event, and strict regulations are in place to ensure that all dogs are treated with care and respect. The handlers and owners of these dogs have a strong bond with them and consider them to be part of their family. The dogs are well-trained, well-fed, and given plenty of love and attention. As for the outcome of the race, it's always a matter of chance, but what's important is that all the dogs are given an equal opportunity to compete and enjoy themselves. The black dog was indeed very fast and gave a great performance

Gawd they’re fast
They are beautiful!
I'm very fond of greyhounds. I had a freind whom sometimes coyote hunted with me, he had 2. I use airedales and a Welsh hound. The grey's even tried baying the yotes! By the time we caught the 4th yote, my big wolfhound was tiring. The dales aren't as fast but they figured how to cut off the yote/ intercept it. Explosive! Grey's make Great coursers but can't hunt in cold, snow . Definitely miss running with him/ them. Dales run on the hot side, grey's love the heat. We caught some foxes alive. Used them to start pups. Nothing excessively stressfull to the foxes and by spring we released them in woods. They would have been killed in the city.
That sounds like quite the adventure with your greyhounds and other dogs! Fascinating to hear about their different hunting styles. Greyhounds truly are amazing animals.
@@JerseyGroovyFilms I got involved with grey rescue after visiting Spain. After the race season, they strangled the dogs by hanging in trees. Horrible!!And they say the higher they hang, the more honor to the dog. It made me sick. I brought 2 back and my buddy took them. He lived in desert. Many great hunts started because he wouldn't leave hus dogs boarded when he traveled. I'd seen saluki hunting in Africa but the grey's are a treat! I will always go with my dales since I hunt everything furred or feathered and they retrieve and herd too. His grey's crashed my hot tent and camped by my stove when a late storm hit us. Nothing like a 80 lb Chihuahua in your sleeping bag kicking you out. Again, the grey's definitely out speed the molosser type Welsh hound and worked well with the dales style of intercepting and baying. They are so sweet, I never knew these trackstars were great couch potatoes that turn into rockets

What are the G forces they experience? They seem to go full speed instantaneously.
In greyhound racing, dogs typically reach full speed rapidly, influencing the perception of G-forces. Exact G-force values can be challenging to determine without specific race conditions data, such as speed, turn radius, and angle.
