    Mayflower curry sauce is great and always have some in the cupboard. The southern gravy they do is magic as well, fantastic on chicken, chips, anything really. Atb for 2024.

      I rate it as well, very similar to most chip shop curry sauces and Chinese takeaways. I like to leave the onions in big chunks and chargrill them a bit, just like a local takeaway.

      @@JustAlex848 We buy a chicken and as there are just two of us we cannot eat it all as we are not greedy pigs. First day of cooking we have a roast. Second day we have cold chicken chips and spaghetti. Third day wit h the chicken that is LEFTOVER we had a Chinese style curry with the sauce. If Mount Fuji erupts and the volcanic lava reaches the UK then if that disaster falls on one of the three day chicken fest we may have to abandon some leftovers. I really hope this makes "sense" to you now. Finally when you say "if I see a chicken I eat it all" does that apply to cooked or uncooked?

    That's how I make mine. Always have a box of mild in, chuck in any odd meat and veggies we might have, add chilli powder if it needs it, plain boiled rice, job done. Pick up some naans off reductions and you have curry night for two less than £5 easy. Extend the sauce and enrich with a drop of milk or cream to change it again. Different but delicious every time.

    Never just put butter in a frying pan on its own, always add the same amount of oil. It stops it from burning. However, you are spot on with the root of the onion. Lots of chemical in there some of which do make you cry.
    Take care, Gareth!.

    • @francesmarie2131
      @francesmarie2131 Před 8 měsíci +1

      The curry sauce mix can be added straight to the onion pan, then however much water you need. It gives the spices a toast/fry, and boosts flavour. It won't clump as this mix is roux - flour and fat ready-blended together to prevent lumps forming. Saves washing up two pans! But a lovely meal for these bitter cold days.@@BaldFoodieGuy ♨💖

    Absolutely love mayflower chinese curry, great value from b&m or Iceland. When I make mine I add extra chilli flakes as even the extra hot is not hot enough for me, and when I serve, I add a dash of dark soy sauce - really adds flavour. A hard boiled egg goes well with this too on the side. Happy New Year to you and family!

      The Dutch eat a lot of curries from Suriname in South America where Indian migrant workers were present during the Dutch empire days. It is similar to our British Indian style of curry, but often with a boiled egg added in. I thought it looked odd at first but it goes so well with a curry. It is an amazing idea, super tasty and a good protein boost to the dish!

    Banging Mate 👍Back in the the day (late 70’s My mum and dad would do the same with the leftover turkey but add a can of Homepride Curry sauce which you can’t get anymore ) 😢and it was the first introduction to curry for me at 6 years old 😋😋, But the mayflower curry sauce powder is banging 👍Always have a pack in the cupboard £1:20 from B&Ms 👍👍

    • @alexmac337
      @alexmac337 Před 8 měsíci +1

      They still sell the Homepride currys, in fact I'm gonna be cooking one tonight. You can get the jar or the tin (the tin is a little hotter and a bit fruitier) but supermarkets tend to put them with the general sauces and not with the curry sauces, so you have to hunt a bit for them. Not cheap anymore though, gone up from just over a pound to £2.60 over the past year.

    I'm with you on this, Chinese curry paste/sauce (which is Malaysian in reality) is a ballache to make from scratch. The Mayflower stuff is very good if a tiny bit too salty for me. If I'm doing a BIR curry I do go 'authentic' though. Great vid, thanks and Happy New Year!!! 🎉🎉🎉

    It's dead easy and simple, but I'd still find a way to mess it up! I'm good at that.😄
    A tip from a foodie acquaintance from years ago: try some fresh coriander, to 'lift it'.
    Happy New Year!🎆🎉😊
