COASTERMANIA! 2016 at Cedar Point

- Beautiful weather welcomed a large group of coaster enthusiasts for Cedar Point's annual CoasterMania! -- a day full of morning and evening ERT, food, contests, prizes, Q&A and a wonderful cruise around the peninsula. This video details my day in the park, which started just before noon and ended at midnight. All 18 coasters are shown here, with some getting more love than others (sorry, Blue Streak!) The only ERT I participated in was Valravn at night. Filmed Friday, June 3, 2016.
Being at Cedar Point is like being a little kid at recess, its like one big play ground espically with fastlane. Id take it over anything.
After having a fast pass, I refuse to do it any other way

Incredible video Bob! I love the cruise shots. The reverse POV around 15:15 reminded me of looking back at the park from the rear window of my parent's car as we headed home down the causeway back in the 70's. Oh, and the sunset footage is the best I have seen! You really have outdone yourself with this video!
Thanks, man! The cruise was so cool. Wish they'd bring back those daily paddlewheel tours. Regarding the sunset shots.....I was trying to take a nap in the car late that afternoon to recharge for the evening, when I noticed that the sky was getting very interesting. So of course I had to postpone the nap to film it. Glad I did. Hope to see you soon, dude!

The music, car alarm, screaming, and person running across at the bottom of the screen at 25:10 made me think I was watching a horror movie for a second... great video, it's got me all hyped up for my trip in the 2017 season!

Came back to watch this video as this was peak Cedar Point and it has def fallen off a little bit but hopefully will return to this greatness again
Bob, thank you so much for all these videos you post. I haven't been to Cedar point in many years. However, watching your videos is the next best thing to being there. Your editing and overall perspective of the park always makes me feel like I'm in the atmosphere. Some of those angles you shoot the coasters at are simply amazing. A few years back, you shot a video of Kennywood Park. That's my home park and you did a great job with that as well. No one else's park videos on youtube even come close to yours. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

Your welcome Bob. Cedar Point is obviously king of amusement parks, but I'm glad you can appreciate the charm that Kennywood has to offer. I love that they still have old rides like the turtle, kangaroo, Bayern curve, and the classic, older coasters, and yet they still have some modern day thrill rides like phantom's revenge, black widow, and skycoaster to give riders a mix of thrills. I really like phantom's revenge, but I always loved the original version of the ride, the Steel Phantom. Not sure if you have ridden the original version, but I always thought it was way more intimidating and packed a bigger punch with all the inversions. Take care man and keep up the great work.
Also, if you were planning on making a future trip to Kennywood, may I suggest you consider coming for phantom fright nights or holiday lights. Phantom fright nights is Kennywood's version of Halloweekends. Lots of lights and decorations, haunted attractions, and fog machines all throughout the park make for a great atmosphere. Holiday lights is a Christmas event that occurs every weekend night from the weekend after Thanksgiving and all through Christmas. There are tons of lights and decorations, the largest decorated Christmas tree in Pa, traditional park and holiday themed foods, and, of course, rides to enjoy. None of the coasters are open, but there are a handful of flat rides open for all to enjoy. There is something about riding rides during Christmas time that really puts you in the holiday spirit. Kennywood goes all out for both events and, with your camera skills, these events would really make for some awesome video opportunities.

I was just here yesterday. Had a great time minus the pop-up thunderstorm we got caught up in. Mean Streak hasn't aged well. I hope they turn it into a hybrid coaster.

Awesome CoasterMania video! I went there two days after you for the Coaster Campout but it got cancelled because of a power outage that happened on the causeway. So me and my family are returning back soon, hopefully I get to go on Valravn! :)
I kind of wish I was there for the outage....would have made for an interesting video! Sorry you didn't get to camp out in the park.

Great if not awesome video. My only lets downs were where was Power Tower, the iconic Giant Ferris Wheel, the Cadillac Cars, Nostalgic Frontier Trail and the lights and sounds of the Arcade at nights. Sorry but have been going for 50 yrs and you just know what got overlooked. I only named a few.

Thanks! I see gulls on or near the tracks all the time, but I've never seen one get hit (not that it's never happened though!)
Incredible directing! You have a great eye for scenery and capturing the excitement of every ride. How do you time everything perfectly, when two coaster trains drop at once?
Thanks! It takes both patience and dumb luck to get the coasters to align. Sometimes I'll wait several cycles to get that perfect shot....and it doesn't happen. I have more luck on busy days because they're running more trains.

I was told that it's just a rumor. Not that it won't ever happen, but not likely for 2017. Kings Island will be in the spotlight next season.

i highly doubt that layout is the true coaster layout some fan club pretty much toke it off google and comfired it without really knowing

I forgot, how late is the park usually open if you are staying at one of the hotels?
CoasterBob62, did you ride the Valvrn? If so, how was it? Also, have you ridden Rougarou? I haven't been to CP since Gatekeeper was there so I missed out on the last two rides.
I wasn't a big fan of Mantis, but it got much better for me once they transformed it into Rougarou. I've been on it many times, as well as Valravn, another great coaster.
I'll be honest, I've rode both griffon and valravn... On valravn although it has a stronger layout it's so forceless after the drop. However griffon seems to be more intense. It might just be me though 🤔
Bob, what is your process to get all the footage, do you film that specific ride and then go on it? or do you get all your filming done and then enjoy the rest of the day riding?
With major projects like this one, I spend the first few hours filming different sections of the park, trying to get as much footage as possible. If a ride has a short line, I'll ride it. I do less filming late in the day and at night and ride more stuff, but I always have a camera at the ready.

Is a halloweekends Saturday a good time to go to cedar point with how busy it could be?
Real busy
Hell no avoid cedar point at all costs on Halloweekends, you will literally wait 2 hours for the worse rides. It's not worth it for the haunted houses. The best time to go is a weekday in the summer.

I simply have to go to this park one day. Being from the UK, Ohio is not an easy to place to get to sadly.
As an Ohio native, I can tell you that it's the most fun you can have! It's a great park with many great rides and the beach setting is amazing.
Same. From the UK too, would love to one day just go to the U.S and go all round the country going to all the biggest parks.

Yes, I like Magnum, one of my favorite coasters......except for the little airtime hills at the end.

The boat tour was only for that day, however they just brought back limited boat service from Sandusky to CP and back.

I just went to cedar point wed and Thursday I am not very happy going here anymore rides broke down a lot and not just one or two it seems like cedar point is cutting back on maintenance people and for the amount of money this park brings in on a daily basis there is no reason for it I also had the same experience on a hallow weekends day last October.

It was removed because a groups of people fell back and were injured
+Penn Gebhard That happened 2 years before it closed down. That may be one of the reasons why but the main reason is because it wasn't a popular ride to begin with. It was considered the worst out of all the water rides at Cedar Point. Maybe it was popular when it first opened but it certainly never was more popular than Snake River Falls.
