- E-Clutch is the unique revolutionary technology from Honda that means you don’t need to use the clutch lever starting, stopping or changing gears up or down. It’s smooth and instant control - better than pro-level - that makes carving a set of twisting corners even more fun and navigating the city stress free.
The Honda E-Clutch opens up a whole new aspect of riding experience for every type of rider from beginner to seasoned expert. Offering a real performance advantage on road or track, gear changes are effortless and controlled using only the shift pedal - so you can concentrate on the next corner, and the one after that.
Hear our riders first impressions and understand the Honda E-Clutch development with insight from the engineers at Honda Motor Japan.

Holding the clutch while stationary isn't really the fun part of manuals, so with this you only have to do the fun part which is shifting, and still have manual clutch on demand.
I think this is a very cool concept.
Uh ur supposed to put it in neutral when you're stationary...
@@MrJimmy12345100 yea on traffic lights, but what about the stop and go stuff, when you can't filter through traffic for example.
@@MrJimmy12345100no you’re not. You’re always supposed to be in gear ready to get out of the way of danger if need be.
@@MrJimmy12345100my motorcycle is almost never in neutral, only ever if at a really really long light
You can still pull the clutch as normal, it's still physically connected
This is like the 1970's Hondamatics but fully realized without all the compromises those bikes had. Still have the full gear box and clutch is there. This is great for new riders and anyone who has to suffer with bumper to bumper traffic where lane splitting is not legal. This being a little module they should be able to incorporate it on most engines already out there. Awesome stuff.
*E-clutch* is a great innovation in my opinion ! Congratulations to Honda ! Please make it available on all your motorcycles 🙂
@@CPUtech101Don't use it then, pretty simple. It can be toggled.
@@CPUtech101 I understand that completely, and Honda knows that as well, and that's why it can be toggled on or off. Just toggle it off and don't use that feature. Pretty simple.
@@CPUtech101p
i have it in cub 100cc
Quick shifter and auto bikes and electric exist for a reason. Honda and their backward brain innovation.
Honestly think its a great idea since you can still use the clutch as you normally do when you want to. Its a win-win.
no you can't, because there's no physical (hard) connection between the clutch lever and the clutch.
When riding with a normal bike, you can set small pressure on the gear lever with your foot, waiting for the exact moment you want to shift, then letting the gear "slide in" by manuel operation of the clutch lever.
Doing this with the E-Clutch won't work.
Cool innovation! You can shift gear without the clutch as long as your off throttle and of course with quickshifters being a thing this also possible.
Even though I love using the clutch lever, I think this is a really neat feature! Good job Honda!
I've always believed that the clutch lever was the only connection between rider and machine. I thought that a bike without clutch lever manually operated was the Anthi-Christ.
Until I bought my NC750X DCT, and all my believes ruined and I saw the light. Praise Honda, amen 😁
I do not consider it a full invention because semi-auto clutches were fitted on Jawa motorcycles back in 1940s and subsequently on Honda's own Cub. This is just a more complex itteration of the former.
You don't have to let go of throttle with this. You can just shift straight while holding the throttle. You can see his hand not moving while shifting.
@@sabeillard I ride an Africa Twin DCT and love it. People criticize until they ride one. It is amazing, specially off road.
I love my DCT bike but this e clutch seems wonderful! No miss-shifts, no stall conditions, and far more simplified construction promises longevity! And there’s a lever under the left hand! Now if motorbikes had a Reverse/walk feature as standard equipment on every bike, than more people of various sizes and skill levels could enjoy motorbiking!
The current Honda Goldwing has a reverse gear and it automatically changes between 1st and reverse when you turn the handlebars in the opposite direction as you do making a many point turn around
dont forget WAY lighter also!
I recently a company that sells modified wheel hub tech that gives an existing motorcycle reverse ...I am certain is it very limited to models...I think it is for Harleys but idk@@adrianmetelli5751
That is such a great concept, to have the standard clutch if you want and to be able to ignore it if you want… 🙌🏻😊
Ahem Ahem MV Augusta.
@@user-jr9bb7lc4qYes, but this is not garbage.
No offense but if rather those people didn't ride. If you can't pick your own bike up or man handle it when required, you shouldn't be on it in the first place.
One of the best inline 4s and the addition of E-clutch will take the game to next level. Please launch soon.
I think this is a great innovation. It allows the rider to ride without having to use the clutch if they like. As an added benefit, it allows the use of the clutch if the rider wants to, which is key to low-speed maneuvers.
Truly amazing! The guys at Honda Motorcycles are doing so many great things, new innovations all the time!
just wish there design was more excite
MV Augusta has this.
Now they're formulating how to change an extra $5,000 per bike for it, I'm sure.
@@domenik8339Well, IMO technical innovations and marketings/sales are two different animals, but DCT has always results in extra bucks, so we may expect higher paycheck on these bikes...
whats innovative? whats amazing?
its more unnecessary crap, more bling, and more advertising hype. yay.
This is great I lost use of my left arm after a crash and have a aprilia mana ! But I’ll be getting one of these when they come out ! Hopefully they add it to the 1000r
It's the evolution of semi automatic but with a clutch lever : brillant ! Hondas are already butter smooth can't imagine with that
Honda nails it again
Quick question how does one go to neutral from the final gear? or when you have to suddenly stop in the road. We usually use the cluth to disengage the gear and then gearchange or brake. How does it work now?
Honda is the real innovator in the motorcycle industry!
Great innovation honda. Keep up the hard work🎉
So many more moving parts to wear out. Plus the clutch usage being a must is a big part of the experience. This seems to be a way to bring more people into riding than anything else.
I can see this being a benefit to new riders
If Honda added this idea to all their cars on the market in North America.. they could have a very good way to save the manuals. Keep the shifter for the sense of control, but eliminate the stalling and clutch. That would be huge.
nice, combining the downsides of a automatic and manual transmission. Truly genius :)
How much will the E-Clutch option be on the CB650r in the UK? There isn't a price shown on your configurator or even the option to add it, does this mean it comes as standard on the 2024 model?
Japanese engineers are the BEST when incorporating fub into their design
I made my own for my MT-09. I could have got A recluse kit but where's the fun in that 😊. An EPS32 SOC, potentiometer, 100kg servo plus a few lines of code did it (it's even electronically adjustable). I'd buy the new e-clutch bike if honda made a left handed fly by wire throttle. Only having a left arm makes modding new bikes tricky, too much electronics today. I also have a 2017 Africa Twin DCT,. I've had fjr-1300ae, Aprilia Mana and even a DN-01. I you name it I've tried it. Two levers, I thumb clutch, hydraulic/cable converter. DCT I think is underrated. I run it in manual mode with foot lever switch and it's butter.
if youre riding with one arm i shall give leniency for wanting a "cheat device". in this case its acceptable...
saw this at nec birmingham at the honda stand. its quiet intresting its your normal manual transmision with an eelectronic clutch module that allows the bike to briden as a manual or as an automatic. its quite clever as it will be near impossible to miss shift for those of which are lesss expirenced with shifting gears. also fewwer clutch replacments and allows those who have lost strenght in the left hand to still ride a bike
The most satisfying part is rev matching and clutch less up shifts. Where's the fun in e clutch? Might as well turn all motorcycles in activa 8g 😂
This is fantastic for ADV bikes and dual sports as well. Sometimes you want the clutch, but most of the time you don't.
Love it!
Can I summarize this as, quick shift with auto blip and a creep mode in first? How do you prevent stalling?
Is it different from existing quick shifter and auto blipper feature which is already present in other bikes
what makes it different than riding those moped like supercub or any manual transmission moped that didn't have clutch lever?
This looks like a great innovation, my wrist does not really appreciate holding the clutch in during a stop. However the throttle response of these current ride-by-wire systems with their very lean fuel/air mixtures will have to be improved or better still fixed. I ride totally differently on modern bikes USING the clutch to smooth out the annoyingly notchy, twitchy throttle response on low speed manoeuvres.
Fantastic innovation Honda. The best of both worlds with minimal weight increase. Thank you and congratulations on your technical mastery. Please roll-out to other models. Best. G.
Good innovation, looking forwforward to it! 👍🏼
Will this be modular enough to be added to existing Honda motorcycles? Or only Hondas that already are drive-by wire?
About freaking time! It’s such a pain in the ass having to use the clutch every time I shift, almost like I’m controlling the machine, rather than it controlling me. Don’t stop there; how about E-Steering and E-Braking? It’s always such a hassle having to lean and push on the bars when turning, and having to make those time and distance calculations in my head and apply the appropriate braking is just too much. Why would I want to be an active participant when I could be a passive observer?
Seriously, though, I hope I don’t run into any of the lazy twits commenting on how great this is. Anyone who finds it too challenging to focus on competent riding, who sees motorcycling as a chore rather than a joy, is not someone I care to share the road with. Fortunately, here in Canada, we ride because we want to, not because we have to; I don’t see that E-crap catching on here.
Thank you guys for this amazing invention
Congrats Honda 👍👍
For me, and likely quite a few other riders my age, this is good news. My hands get more arthritic every year, to the point where riding can be much less enjoyable. I don't tend to ride in the city as much either. I've even pondered getting a large scooter. This would solve that issue.
Will it be the next step for clutches on all motorcycles in the future? Likely a version of this will show up on other brands sooner than later.
It's when it becomes affordable enough to put it on entry level bikes, that it becomes the standard.
I think I'll hold off on that scooter for a couple more seasons and see what happens.
I'd only trust Honda to make a system like this reliable.
Congratulations from Honda One Heart world's 💝🌍
finally i can get what i dream before...Tq e clutch
this is actually a great concept. hate it when traffic jam and you should pulling and and holding like 30 minutes, but this is good innovation. it can relax your hand when it's traffic jam, not making the manual bad, but this is great concept to using when it's need it
If you could grab the clutch to rev it and take away power from the rear and still be able to operate it after in manual that is a great innovation
Extraordinary invention from Honda 😍
Way to go Honda! Nailed it.
Gotta love honda
It may be a great achievement but we enjoy having the clutch!
Tu bailgadi chala Bhai, old school. Inko technology nahi chahiye, kya dimag hai, one less moving part to consider while driving is convenience. You should go back to the past and drive bailgadi.

This looks like a solution to something that was never a problem!
it's a marketing thing for beginners who are afraid of the clutch
There is literally nothing more boomer than motorcycle guys whining about DCT/e-clutches. There’s a reason 99.9% of passenger cars have an automatic transmission. 20 years from now the only bikes that will be sold with manual clutch transmissions will be Harleys and racing bikes. Enjoy the world passing you by, you won’t be missed.
@@dhess34 Aw, it's so adorable when a Gen-Z ventures out of their safe space. I can see a self-driving car is in your future!
@@dhess34 what you say is true, but then why buy a bike with an expensive e-clutch instead of an CVT? makes no sense
@@dhess34There are already motorcycles with automatic transmission, but unlike cars, not much people cared about it or bought it.
The car and motorcycle consumers have different mindset.
The majority of car consumers just want something that goes from A to B and sees driving as a chore.
The majority of motorcycle consumers are enthusiasts so they actually likes every bit of driving it.
Unless going electric, manual in motorcycle will still stay as the popular choice.
I badly wanted to get this bike but alas, Honda decided not to bring it to the US market so I opted for a Suzuki GSX-8R and so far am loving it.
A very good idea that should have been done a long time ago in all vehicles
I’d buy any Honda with this as I ride in London and it’s start/stop all the time. This is great, thank you 👍🍻
If you don't want to shift buy a scooter or a bike with automatic transmission, problem solved.
If you buy a scooter you have to buy yourself some tampons as well
I’ve got a Rekluse tire clutch on my MV. It’s excellent although very low speed clutch control is a little compromised and it tends to make me pull away with a few more revs than normal. I’d be really interested to try the e-Clutch
The only issue I have with Rekluse/SCS system is it isn't the smoothest. It's quite clunky when it shifts into gear. A THUNK.
@@Irfan87
Oh ok - Mine’s better than that so it might be an adjustment issue? That said, I always pull in the clutch lever when selecting first - Old habits die hard
How do you slip the clutch?
Honda finally doing some innovation and bringing something new to the market. Good Job. Now release it in 2024 rather than 2028 which is what honda always does
It was already released tho 🤷♂️
İmproved version of the clutch loaded on Honda Supercub models for years also Honda Dax now uses.
With the new E clutch installed, you don't need to have the quick shifter, just release the throttle back then shift gears upward if you want to be faster. The gear shifting just made it more similar to semi automatic transmission motorcycles they made. I wonder how does it do with the rev matching technique?
Using the clutch is second nature for bikers. This e-clutch is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. What does matter is shifting without even having to close the throttle. Now that, is significant.
I Hope this will be available to even smaller ccs bike such as the Honda RSX 150, riding in the city with this technology will be awesome!

@@hasahchan4775 sorry you njirr
moped like supercub or honda wave exist, manual without clutch level ;D
Honda is the only thing that can genuinely give you wings.
Semiautomatic without having to change the gearbox. Ingenious.
Well done Honda!
So this is just standard quick shift? Couldn’t find any articles on it
Can old model be equip with e clutch?
Waiting traffic without holding clutch is awesome. Great innovation!
you can put in neutral and release the clutch...
If you find neutral before it turns green again that is 😅
another additional thing that can break :D but good inovation for people who cannot ride normal clutch
A well tuned clutch is quite easy to operate. I feel bad for those that can’t negotiate a simple clutch operated transmission.
Well done Honda - put this on a Transalp and I'll buy one 👏👏👏👏
oohhh thats kinda sick
Very cool! Hope the Africa Twin will get it :)
In the late 90s, there was a Hero Honda Street motorcycle in India. 4stroke 100cc and with a legit 4 speed gear box. It also didn't have any manual clutch control at all. How is the E clutch different? And also why is there a clutch lever??
So whats the difference between this and a bike with the quickshifter and auto blipper package?
Is It similiar Like Dual Clutch tech?
Cool technology with potential for super fast automatic or triggered shifting, but I never had to "think" about a clutch and not for a millisecond thought that stop and go was an issue for the clutch. Hate traffic anyway, not a place for a motorcycle. Maybe todays low inertia engines make a quick shift difficult but the '69 Honda 750, in rapid action never used the clutch anyway. Proper synchronization of throttle blip and shift engaged the shift dogs just fine, every time. Is there something about current machinery that needs this or just the riders?
no most modern bikes can still be blip shifted its just taught fewwer and fewwer as the years go on. on all my bikes i use blip shifting from 2nd gear onwards no quickshifter at all. and for down shifting just apply a little pressure on the gear lever let off the throttle and itll slip into the next gear down or if your me you use the engine kill switch and blip it manually
Please release this in all country that have honda. Im going to wait for this for my honda cb1000r 😎
Inovasi yang hebat 👏👏👏
How long we have to wait for e clutch technology to come in motorcycles ?
What's the difference between bidirectional quick shifter vs this honda eclutch
It will be great if this thing is implemented in cars, it will be great relief for those who drive in very tight city traffic and who want the fun of manual transmission.
Like the supercub?
In MV Agusta Turismo Veloce this technology was available 6 years ago 😊
Finally, I can drive a manual, after so many years.
SINCE THERE IS NO NEED TO USE THE CLUTCH, MAYBE MAKE THE REAR BRAKE ACTIVATED BY HAND LEVER LIKE THE FRONT BRAKE
Looks great! Now, a new VFR with 150hp and this would be the perfect world 😅
I would go for that without thinking too much. You would have my 💰💰💰
Id like to see a race tuned version of their biggest flat 6 engine. That goldwing engine has been overlooked for so long. People are sleeping on the potential of those engines.
@@longsleevethong1457I saw a vid of someone turning a Goldwing into a cafe racer. I'd add an E-Clutch to one of those.
@@Irfan87 I’d like to see that build
Does it have a wheelie mode?
As long as the clutch lever stays functional as a redundancy or when the e clutch sensors fail I'm in.
Honda, bring E-Clutch to the 25 Goldwing as an option. Very cool. I love my DCT, but would consider E-Clutch for sure.
Sorry, I'm a bit confused, what differentiates this technology from a regular motorbike engine without a clutch ?
The clutch lever can be employed as a safety measure. In the event of accidentally twisting the throttle, simply pulling the clutch disengages acceleration.
great
Honda wave got this technology since 2000.
DCT add around 10kg of weight. How much extra weight is for this one?
2kg
not much,, this is as simplier as you think.
The name of Honda Development Engineer of E-Clutch drive train test PL is Ryohei Tsuzuki. 🙂
Honda always surprises you.
They are known for their reability for decades.
So what’s the use of the clutch lever?
Yamaha has do this on underbone 115cc 25 years ago. We call it live clutch.
I wonder if honda ever use this technology for some of their cars like the civic type R
is this different with semi-automatic ?
Can this operate in full automatic mode?
VW had electronic clutch in Beetle in '69 or sooner, mine was 69
Applying pressure to gear shifter activated the eclutch.......very bad for laying hand on gear shifter........wonder what activates Honda motorcycle eclutch
When will this be available in the United States?
Seems like Honda basically took the idea of a aftermarket recluse clutch and Incorporated it into their new gearboxes on these two bike models.
I mean, if you know what you are doing you can clutch less shift anything, especially if it's a slippery clutch. No need for another part that can fail and brings the price up imo
