  • Danger Signs of a Brain Tumor. Neurosurgeon Dr Arun L Naik sheds light on danger signs of a brain tumor. Brain tumor signs symptoms depends upon the area of brain involved. Treatment of brain tumor is by surgery chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Astrocytoma brain tumor.
Over your lifetime, the odds of developing a brain tumor is less than 1%. Usually, symptoms like a headache or numbness are just your body’s way of telling you to drink more water or to rest more. Brain tumors come in all shapes and sizes With more than 120 types of brain tumors. Early warning sign of a brain tumor depends upon 3 things
    1. Area of the brain where a tumor forms. There are many areas in the brain which are silent and tumor in such silent areas seldom causes any early symptoms, we see a large tumor in such cases. In some areas of the brain, even a small tumor causes early symptoms.
    2. How big the tumor is: usually a small tumor will not cause any symptoms and a large tumor results in significant symptoms.
    3. How bad the tumor is: Meaning, brain tumors can be good or bad depending on the way it affects the outcome. Good tumors generally grows over years and bad tumors grow over months.
    Signs of brain metastases
Here’s a teaser friends: The most common brain tumors don’t actually start in the brain. Brain metastases, or metastatic brain tumors, spread to the brain from other cancers of the body - most often from the lungs, breasts, skin, kidneys or colon. A person with a known history of any cancer, who develops any of these neurological symptoms should be suspected and evaluated.
Signs and symptoms really depends on its location in the brain. For example, if someone has a tumor near the part of the brain controlling leg, he/she will have arm weakness. Similarly tumor near the vision nerves will leave him/her blind.
    Seizures
Regardless of type of brain tumor, seizures or convulsions or fits are often one of the first signs of trouble. Irritation from the brain tumor makes the neurons fire uncontrollably, and that leads to abnormal movements. Seizures come in many forms. One could experience whole-body convulsions along with unconsciousness and this we call generalised seizures. One could just have a limited convulsions of one limb or one part of the face with no loss of consciousness. This type of seizures is called a focal seizure. As a rule of the thumb, any convulsions in an adult should be taken seriously and a brain scan should be ordered at the earliest. If someone is already an epileptic since childhood, then any change or character of convulsions is a point of worry again.
Weakness : one can have motor weakness of hands, or feet. If you have struggle with using keys, typing or writing you should seek medical attention. Some people can miss their steps, or struggling with the balance, this also should not be neglected. Similarly imbalance in walking and frequent falls should raise an alarm.
Problem speaking: one striking sign of a brain tumor is sudden difficulty in speaking. Some patients have difficulty in naming people and things. They may call a pen a paper and so forth. I have seen a patient who had a sudden speech arrest at his office meeting when he suddenly stopped talking and was staring at the window for a minute. His colleagues immediately raised an alarm and brought to the hospital. Never neglect this speech symptom. It will be dramatic and worry some.

My son was diagnosed with a High Grade Glioma after being admitted to the A&E department with Left sided weakness, and 10 days later he died. History was of headaches and not sleeping. He was working until a week before he was diagnosed. How could he die so quickly? The doctors stated he had only had the tumour for about a month It’s shocking.

Brain cancer is the worst cancer you could ever have granted they're all bad but I fear brain tumors the most. I'd rather have blood or skin cancers, hell even lung because at least I know it would be relatively painless aside from the overall unwellness. If it kills me at least it would be a peaceful transition into the other side.

I'm not the type to go to the doctor at all unless I'm deathly ill but over the last 4 months I have not been feeling well and I've been dealing with personal issues so I thought maybe that that was related to why I was feeling the way it was, but i've been dealing with headaches since I was a teenager, I've been to the eye doctor they said there's nothing wrong with my eyes I have periodontal's disease so I thought maybe that the headaches were related to oral issue they said that is not related to that I have headaches on average 12 to 15 days out of the month and even when I don't have a headache I have a pinging in my brain that I can fill it's like a headache before the headache begins. How do I go about getting my primary care physician to do an MRI of the brain to make sure that there's not something more going on because I have a family member that has MS and was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I've been having issues within the last couple months with pens and needle tingling in my feet and legs stiffness of muscles where I'm having difficulty walking pins and needle filling in my arms and in my hands I was put on levothyroxine, but do not feel like it's doing anything overly tired, memory issues speech issues, balance issues, but I feel like the diagnosis that I was given with all the labs that were done all my cardiac panels came back bad but I do not have any cardiac diseases, I have high cholesterol but not high enough to be put on medication for, how do I go about having my doctor do more than what has been done previously. Just something within me tells me that there's more wrong with me than what's shown so far

Hi lisa your symptoms sound alot like mine , its progress to bouts of total paralysis from my waist down, scary as hell. I keep asking for mri for many years to which i have been made to feel like a hypochondriac and many times ive doubted myself. But my persistence and having a diary has made my doc send me to a neurologist. I dont believe i have a brain tumour but maybe something in my spine. But yep just wanted to let you know i hear you and understand you. Keep at the doc , keep a diary, and remember they doc is there for you. They wouldnt have a job without us. Good luck.x

I have looked at the possibility over brain tumor, more because of the seizures I started having shortly right after turning 39 and that was the first time in my life I was ever experiencing seizures. I never experienced them before not even in childhood or an adolescent I don't have any family history. At onset they were generalized grand mal seizures, during these last three years taking two different types of medicines first treatment with Keppra and now on Tegretol the compulsive grand mal seizures seem to have stopped not experiencing them much, but still do have generalized seizures especially during sleep at times, then experiencing focal complex seizures the most just about every time I have a seizure my awareness and memory is affected, I do get dizzy spells they're in there it's me that feels more unsteady or unbalanced oh, it's not a vertigo feeling. The only headaches I feel or more like pulses or jolts the right side of my head I can feel those up to about eight days then may have a seizure. I haven't really had much nausea through the course of the three years I've maybe vomited 3 times but usually after a major seizure that's when that occurs. They say focal seizures, but I could tell you I experienced just about every seizure type in the book, Including nocturnal. I am a US Army veteran served six years I did a tour in Iraq in the beginning of 2007 till about spring of 08 a 15-month tour I got out in 2011, then one day in May of 2020 I said I blacked out doctors keep saying syncope immediately, then keep changing it to faint and pass out. That is not what I said and I was careful to try to use my words carefully I said I blacked out meaning more as a period of loss of consciousness, causing me to crash into a fixed object yes I was driving destroying my vehicle, guess I was lucky to walk away with minor scratches and bruises and a broke rib, 4 months later after such is now September 2020 having conversation with my mother sitting in the chair I just stopped in mid-conversation turn my body to the left towards her Direction fell out of the chair to my right side immediately went to convulsions, waking up with EMTs at the house and my mother telling me that I had a seizure and that I should go with the EMTs to hospital. Now I'm 3 years in don't know what really is the cause, I am neither a child or elderly adult which in my research tells me that seizures were more common in. I've been told my MRIs or normal, then you tell me how are particularly normal healthy 39 /42 man never had any other health issues, not even with covid but seizures are starting to take me out. There's got to be some kind of reason, people just don't have seizures out of the blue, there is a cause and effect.
