Steve - I'm putting together a 12V system for my Chopper build. What do you suggest for a battery? I see so many different opinions out there about it.

Would the receiver losing connection with the controller and nothing showing up in the Serial Monitor indicate a host shield or Arduino issue, or both? When it does connect I can get sounds from the mp3 player, but only a question mark looking thing shows up in the monitor. Also I get no movement on my drive or dome motor. Pads are soldered, and I bent the pins on the host shield so they make a better contact when attached to the arduino. I can purchase another set, but if you have any advice I could try beforehand I'd appreciate it.

Hmmm, I've not come across disconnection issues before, but part of me wonders if it is actually because you are plugged in to a computer at the time? If you are powering your arduino just through the USB connection for example, it may not be providing sufficient power to the receiver puck. What I do nowadays is provide 5v and ground into the arduino from the sabertooth 5v output, and likewise, the syren 10 provides 5v and ground to the sparkfun MP3 trigger. Hope this helps.

@@ImperialLightandMagic I think I got it sorted. I was using 9v batteries with the barrel connectors for testing, but it may not have been enough. I hooked them up to a 12v and it works. Since you've built a lot of these do you prefer going off the syren and sabertooth to power the arduino and sparkfun or using the 12v barrel connectors?

@@pierrewhorley9603 yeah that will be your problem!! I always use the 5v outputs now, as it means you can run 24v if you wish with no changes required (assuming your amplifier also handles 24v, the ones I use are fine)

I've been trying to do this, but I'm having trouble getting the USB Shield working, I'm not sure I have the correct library and the light on the XBOX Wireless controller does not light when plugged into the Shield. Should it?

Yes it should light up, sounds to me like you don't have the solder jumper pads soldered on the shield, look at my video called Padawan 360 issue - resolved which shows how to fix this

@@ImperialLightandMagic I've got it working now, it lights up and the controller lights go around. I did resolder the pads! It then just started working after a while !

How many volts is that battery?

That was a 12v lipo, just used for testing the board :)
