    THANK YOU FOR THIS. The more closely I have studied this story, the more I have been disappointed in the songs, plays, and Christmas cards of the ages that talk about inns and sheds. (Don't get me started on the magi and shepherds showing up at the same time!) I am so grateful for those who are telling the story with study of the original language.

    I once heard a “mega” pastor on tv (I can’t remember which one now) say that the cloths around Jesus were actually burial cloths Mary had wrapped around her that she’d brought with her in case she died, so she could be buried in them. It didn’t sit right when I heard it. You make much more sense.

    In my eastern tradition it is very common to wrap the new born baby with cloths to protect him with handling with sleep…. And when Luke referred to it as a sign don’t meant to be the ordinary cloth ( komat) .. he was referring to the sign in another way
    I want to share :
    The swaddling cloth was the large piece of cloth that Jewish people use to bind on their
    Middle when they traveled this large piece with
    Specific measurements given from their Rabies
    Was their shroud if some thing happened to them in their way when were traveling , so Jewish community knew how to deal with the dead person and ready shroud
    So Jesus sign is swaddling cloth of Joseph
    Wrapping Jesus … was a sign for un ordinary
    Situation… baby wrapped with shroud( cuffin)
    So this will be the sign
    No other baby was wrapped with shroud
    Joseph was the only one wrapped Jesus with his shroud .. because they were traveling with hard time to be prepared in traditional way
    Other Jewish baby wrapped with small swaddled which are small and traditional not religious. Shroud…. thanks 🙏

    The other thing is that it was the time of Sukkot, Feast of Tabernacles, where a) They lived in temporary dwellings in remembrance of their sojourn in tents during the wilderness years b) all Jewish males were required to go up to Jerusalem for the feast, & Bethlehem is just over 5 miles from Jerusalem. So that is the spiritual reason for traveling to Bethlehem

    The Hebrew word for manger is sukkah... They were observing the Feast of Sukkot (plural of sukkah), which is why there was no room at the inn... with the 1000' s of Jews going to the commanded yearly pilgrimage festival.
    John 1:1&14 Yeshua became flesh and DWELT among His people... in a temporary sukkah - His flesh.
    God's commanded Holy Days in Leviticus 23 are an outline, a foreshadow of His Plan of Salvation (Yeshua means salvation) for all mankind:
    Think
    Yeshua was crucified on PASSOVER.
    Put in the tomb on the 1st day of UNLEAVENED BREAD.
    Risen on the Feast of FIRST-FRUITS.
    His Holy Spirit given on Pentecost -
    FEAST OF WEEKS in Hebrew.
    He will return on FEAST of TRUMPETS.... Trumpets sound at
    Crowning of a King
    War - Armageddon...
    Wedding Supper of the Lamb
    Yah will judge the world on the
    DAY of ATONEMENT
    The Feast of SUKKOT (TABERNACLES - temporary shelters) is the Wedding Feast... when our Messiah will DWELL forever with us.
    Revelation 21:2-3 the Holy City, New Jerusalem came down from God out of heaven, prepared as a BRIDE ADORNED FOR HER HUSBAND.
    Behold the TABERNACLE - SUKKAH of God is with men, and He will DWELL - TABERNACLE with them...
    Finally, there will be the Millennial, the Blessed Great Sabbath Rest (Hebrews 4:9: a sabbatismos).
    For in 6 days, as in 6000 years,
    man does all his work & labor.
    But in the 7th day,
    as in the 7000th year,
    there shall be a Great Sabbath Rest.
    We must be using God's calendar to understand the timing of the events in His Master Plan. Shalom 😊

    The earliest symbol for believers in Yeshua was the menorah, the lampstand. The fish was decades away. Yeshua was a Jew not a Christian. They were in a guest room not a stable or cave. They had relatives in Beit Lechem.

      I learned years ago about how in that area they had a lot of sheep folds which were just rock walled areas with a single narrow opening where a shepherd could put his flock overnight and sleep in the doorway. The manger was a water trough which may even been a hollowed out rock.
      A wood stable structure makes a better lawn ornament.
      The ' innkeeper ' , ' katalouma ' keeper saw Mary's condition and said ' you don't want to have a baby here with this crowd, I know a more secluded place "
      and set them up in a sheep fold.
      The shepherds looking for the new Messiah didn't have to go knocking on doors, they found him outside, born in an outside place a lamb might be born in.

    • @margaretteoh1428
      @margaretteoh1428 Před 2 lety

      Joseph was not his father but his foster father'.

    • @connienovak1011
      @connienovak1011 Před 2 lety

      @@margaretteoh1428 legally, here on earth, He was the son of Joseph. Joseph and Mary were we'd when she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. In Jewish custom of the time, they were legally we'd, then the "husband" would go home and build a room for them off his father's house, or their own building, and when finished, would come for his Bride. They would not consummate the marriage until he brought here home and the wedding feast was held. So Joseph accepted Jesus as his legal, earthly son. Hence, the Jewish marriage foretells the 2nd Coming. Jesus came the first time to pay for the sins of His Bride, then went to prepare a room for her, and will return to take His Bride home. God is the Heaven Father. Thus, jesus/Yeshua also fulfilled the rabbinical teaching that there would be two Messiahs. They couldn't wrap their heads around one coming twice. The first was to be Ben Josef (the son of Joseph) and the second was to be the Meshiach, God dwelling among us. So although the rabbis didn't correctly teach the Prophets, Jesus still fulfilled both positions.

    Love your videos - especially the Hebrew & Greek original languages amplifying the meaning.
    Just want to add a point for future reference.
    You are talking about the greeting of Anticathsis [sp?] and Lazarus meeting. The greeting aluding to The Way. You are correct about both the scriptures mentioning The Way in John and Acts. However, go one further step. The Essenes, who existed since approx 200 BC as a separate sect were godly, following The Way of the "ancients", the Patriarchs, and were of the Zadok priest order. The Dead Sea Scrolls mention "The Way" numerous times. From study of their manuscripts, again written before 100 B.C., they had prophecied with 100% accuracy about Messiah's coming - His FIRST coming - and He would die in 32 A.D. They did not call themself Essenes, but The Way. If you read their scripts, it's like reading Paul's Epistles. And early Church Fathers have documentation that John the Baptizer was of this order - a Zadok Priest.
    I study with Ken Johnson - he is a scholar studying the Dead Sea Scrolls. [If anyone wants to learn more]. He has numerous books on his translations and commentaries on the manuscripts. He is an Evangelical "deacon" in his church.

    Excellent presentation. I have often wondered why we let European and American tradition change the actual account based on Biblical information and cultural practice of that time and location. I've always felt Joseph never receivd the credit he deserved.

    • @kimfleury
      @kimfleury Před 2 lety +3

      We can't expect everyone to be scholars, but do keep in mind that some of the changes to the exact actual account were natural due to the cultural and chronological context of Europe and the Americas. It's really hard for _anyone_ to imagine anything outside the familiar given only the clues that make sense only to people from a completely different culture. It's also really hard for anyone to admit to ignorance, and we are ignorant of the culture and context of those who filled in the blanks to the best of their ability using their imagination. Basically, it's not a big deal, even to scholars. To be clear, scholars are concerned with getting the full picture, but mostly are _not_ concerned that anyone outside of that field of scholarship is going to hell for getting the details wrong.

    Something to consider.. Mary wasn't married yet and gossip could have already traveled to family in Bethlehem.
    The Watch Tower where the Passover lambs are wrapped in swaddling cloths. If not in use.. would be clean. And the shepherds would know which stable the baby would be in. I'll have to look this up. But somewhere in the Old Testament I think something of the Watch Tower is mentioned..
    I'm just saying. In Nazareth. The whole town knew of Mary. And gossip always has traveled fast. But I do see a midwife being there. Even if just a stranger..
    But since this WAS where Sacrificial lambs would be born in. It would be fitting that the Lamb of God be born there as well

    It was not forbidden in Jewish law for an engaged couple to engage in marital relationships. They are already considered married at the point of engagement. So, when a man chooses to take his fiancée into his home before the ceremony - it is legal. I will double check with my Rabbi, but I believe the teachings I have heard most of my life on this issue during this time in history is correct.

There is a beautiful video called The Christ Child - a nativity story which can be found on CZcams. The scene leading to Magdalene coming to Mary is dated at 48 A.D. The script speaks of Luke being with Paul in Rome and Tychicus is the messenger. No way that date works. I would say those details make their date at least 10-12 years off. Still love the show!!!

    Why were Shepherds the first to know of the birth of Jesus? What is important about Jesus being laid in a manger? Unravel the mystery of why Mary is called the Ark of the New Covenant and why did she go to the House of Bread to deliver the Bread? How many Protestant can answer these questions?

  • @coffeelvnwmn8706

    The Bible is definitely not a book like any other; it's book that must be read and studied in-depth, seeking out the culture/beliefs of the time, language, meaning of the Hebrew/Greek words, dig into history--so much! Then it begins to form that picture, and the words begin to make sense.
    I too, do not subscribe to the 'idea' that Joseph helped deliver Jesus; we must remember that these people obeyed the Levitical laws, and men were not permitted to assist their wives to deliver their children; midwives are mentioned when Moses was born, and it would have been awkward and odd for this to take place. Whether it was family or the people that offered them a room to stay in, as you mentioned, women were around to assist any expectant mothers.
    I enjoy the way you break this show down and how one can dig deeper into the Bible; talk about the chunkiest parts of meat to savor! God bless.
    Shalom.

    Didn’t Herod Antipas’s reign begin in 4 BC? And being Rome’s boy, is it inconceivable he would have taken or been given credit for the building of the road?

    • @ezekielsaltar4728
      @ezekielsaltar4728 Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, the co-regency of Antipas could have started in 4 BC or Herod died in 4 BC and Antipas was in complete power. Good way to straddle both viewpoints!

    • @BrandonRobbinsMinistry
      @BrandonRobbinsMinistry  Před 2 lety +8

      @the chosen I can definitely see how the transition between Herod the great and Antipas is muddy. In this case, I use Matthew’s gospel as a reference. Since it mentions Herod dying and Herod Archelaus coming to power when Jesus and his family are in Egypt, that means that Herod the Great would have been in power up to that point (including the time of Jesus’ birth).
      As far as taking credit for the road, I guess that’s a possibility. But if Archelaus is in charge of that region, it’s hard to imagine he would let Antipas post a sign taking credit for it.
      All that said, I loved this episode (and the whole special). You got a lot more things right than wrong. This instance is definitely an exception!

      I came here to leave a comment after reading The Chosen response that I had read earlier ( I'm glad now I had waited). On this week's live showing, I felt "lost" at the road sign. The mere mention of the name Herod left me in uncertainty. Anyway, this led me to a good study this week on the kings. I hope I don't feel so lost next time I hear the name Herod. Thank you Brandon for all your hard work. Now, I'm off to see what this month's newsletter has in store for me.

      I believe the term “Mother Mary” is often used simply to identify which Mary is being referenced since there are several in the gospels.

    Appreciate your take on this, though like to add some thoughts. The family of Joseph might not have wanted to help out of shame because of Mary having a baby while betrothed. If they had taken in them and given her the area of the animals to give birth how come they gave her swaddling cloth for lambs and not provide for a cot for the baby. It might be a considerate way for Mary to leave this unclear as so not to blame her family in law as she might both have understood and forgiven them. So I think it is also plausible that they indeed where left on their own and maybe one of the family members later felt convicted to help them and so later they where in a house.

      Betrothed women in the 1st century were considered married. Listen to the Grafted channel, they are Christian Jews who know the law. They said the angel probably came to Mary, then later. Joseph, before they "came together" but after the betrothel. Joseph knew he didn't cause the pregnancy , so was going to put her away privately, then the angel came to him to explain everything. Their channel really gives insight to the Jewish law at the time
