The $1850 Garmin MARQ Captain Ruined Other Smartwatches For Me

- I'm gonna say this right up front: even if we were talking about the best smartwatch of 2020, nearly $2000 is too much to ask for any wearable. But in the nine months since I bought the Garmin MARQ Captain for review, I’ve covered twelve other smartwatches - and every. single. one. of those smartwatches would be better … if it had "a little Captain in it."
Here’s five features from the Garmin MARQ Captain - and the Garmin MARQ series as a whole - that I wish every other smartwatch or wearable tech gadget of 2020 would steal.

I thought it said $180 and I was like "Hey that looks like a pretty good deal."
Then I reread the title.
Dave Harrenburg China will sell you one for that in a couple months
Lol same , and then i was like "ahh forget it"
I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my account password. I would love any help you can offer me!
@@kamdenabdullah614 There should be a "forgot your password" thing that you can use on the login page
@@experiment54 it is made in China. Actually Taiwan but that’s also part of China.
32gb of storage and 7 day battery... yeah that's years away from alternatives
Yeah it also costs 3x more than the alternatives
Twice as much as a good phone
Not only does it cost years away from other watches but it doesn't have the higher res display which eats battery the most. Its a laughable product. You won't impress watch enthusiasts & you DEF will not impress the tech enthusiasts. What you will do is ...well I actually not sure 😕
fossil hr?
I mean, my Fitbit Versa 2 lasts around 2 and a half days, so I mean it's not that bad lol
Someone in the comments requested the older music, and mr mobile has apparently listened :)
Song title please?
@@mrlloyd149 uh, seems like up top, by tonemassif, taken off of premiumbeat. Song titles used to be listed in the description, so I checked the xz premium video

If i'm putting 2k on a watch i sure as hell want it to last a lifetime.
I might've misunderstood your comment, but yes, spending 2k on a watch that will be outdated in every way in no time doesn't make any sense to me unless you're fairly wealthy.
This (imo ugly) smart watch won't be anything more than over engineered paper weight after a period of time in which a well maintained 2k mechanical watch would still be running perfectly fine.
@@agdp15 perfectly fine? what about when you have to spend half the original cost to get it serviced every couple years
Le0 Most I've spent on a watch was the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster. This thing has taken a beating, been through every kind of abuse imaginable, and still runs flawlessly without a hitch. Best 500 I've ever spent
@@-Archeus- think i have the same one, great watch
@@Le0xo half the original cost to get serviced? You dont service seiko 5's they last 20 years and you do a movement swap.
I have a MARQ and I absolutely love it. It's a great addition to anyone's collection and the build quality is absolutely incredible. I came from a Garmin Forerunner 945, and the upscaled quality means I'm never going back. Also, congrats on 1 million!
Still happy with my free Active watch. Once you get enough scratches you dont notice them anymore.
How did you get a free watch? D:
@@cube2fox Probably bought it as a bundle with a Galaxy phone.
Haha I have the active 2 and it scratched the first week I was so mad because I got the stainless steel I have since used insurance and the replacement has no scratches yet
Michael Marquez I wear mine everyday and work hospitality. No scratches and takes beatings very well. Stainless steel as well
@@cube2fox preordered a phone
Love the background music!
Takes me back to the BlackBerry KEYone review days
Song title please?
Totally agree with you. I currently have the Fenix 3 HR and it still works like a charm. It has all the pros you indicated but at a fraction of the cost. Keep up the great work!
Also have the 3hr. The 2 things that I would like to change are a higher res display, and nfc for Garmin pay.
Still going strong though, and still no scratches on the sapphire.
Same here! Happy with my Phenix 3 HR, going strong after 5 years of usage.
Your presentation is just perfect. Informative with good sense of humor. Love it!
A smartwatch that costs more than the Z flip I'm currently typing on.
Hard pass
Mild flex. Will allow.
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] The first time the word mild was used mildly. That was a severe flex.
@@TheMrMobile pun intended?
@@stevestojan well yes, because the phone folds.
Lmao
Michael, I love how you've made reviewing smartwatches your "thing." Keep up the awesome work.
I absolutely loved the editing, writing and VO work starting at 4:20. It was such a joy to watch and seems like it probably took a lot of work to bring that all together. Amazing job :)
Hayden Harris it was a clip from garmin’s official video about its watch line up
@@harshvardhan5705 yes, I was talking about the way Michael's script, voiceover, and the music came together after that point. Not just the clip.
Hayden Harris yeah that was actually amazing :)...he never disappoints
Love your videos man 🙂. The background music and your style of reviewing make it such a joy to watch.👌👌
Thanks for this review. I would have liked to have seen the nautical features in more depth though. Specifically how it links to boat-side equipment.
Is there a Mr Mobile playlist? This background is poppin!! Amazingly complement the video.
Sir, you reviews were good years ago. They have continued to improve over time. Thanks for being a faithful reviewer of all things mobile! In my opinion, your reviews are honest and spot on.
Amazing review as always, what’s your say on the latest escobar fold 2 scandal and how different youtubers reacted
Great video. Keep up the good work. I watch most of your videos. They're all very well done. 👍👍
@mrmobile That was my post from "ablogtowatch" regarding the Garmin Marq and the watches I saw while on Special Operations. It was fun to suddenly see it on here. Thanks!
Love the fact that you buy review products with your own money, that’s a big part of what makes you authentic
since you're already in the neighborhood, mind letting us know how you feel about tag heuer's newest "connected" smartwatch or is that already in the works? 😁🤙
I still love my Gear S3 from 2016. It may not be as regal as the Garmin, but I think it's just as classy and evidently very durable. The steel casing has some scratches and the battery life is reduced but the screen is pristine and rotating bezel still clicks.
Pogs and slammers? You pulled me back to my 90's childhood so hard I have whiplash.
Damn, that Pogs reference! Mr. Mobile dropping subtle knowledge lol
I recently saw your moto edge+ review from there tracking down to this video just to see that gorgeous watch review 😁👍
Great review as always! For those looking for similar specs in a more affordable range, Garmin makes a whole slew of them! The Fenix 6 line is very comparable for half the cost. Personally went with a Fenix 5 Plus. Titanium version, sapphire glass, for about 450 dollars gets you most of the same bells and whistles!
Great presentation and production quality!
Love your videos!!! Please do a review of the Tag Heuer generation 3...
Did you just refer to Pogs and Slammers? Epic. I thought MrMobile couldn't get any better!
MrMobile: The Athlete has . Pluse, running, I don't know, I'm too distracted by that beautiful green button.
Me: Ha Ha.
Love your videos - I'm a pilot, so i've added the Garmin Marq aviator to my wish list - it's gonna have to try hard to replace my bretling navitimer 2019 though
Really nice video! I'd love a comparison with the new Garmin Quatix 6. I've been coveting the Captain since it came out, but at half the price the new Quatix is a tough competitor.
It is beautiful. What do rotating bezels do on real diving watches? Thanks.
Thinking to upgrade to one of these, currently using a Fenix 5X plus titanium, absolutely love it, the build quality on the MARC models would be a step up.
What is the brand of that blue jacket you’re wearing in this video? Would be great if you can share. Thanks!
Great video. It’s expensive so can you change the battery when it fails?
I like this guy. Very charming, subscribed for tech reviews from now on!
I loVe Garmin!! Tactix Delta here 👌🏿 (the Marq equivalent has a smaller face, I wanted the bigger one on the Delta)
7 day battery. Sounds like a old Nokia phone 😀
Nokia was murdered by the government of Finland, Mongols...
GREAT REVIEW!
Wondering if you’ve checked out Garmin’s new S62 golf smart watch and how it compares to the Captain. I love the Captain in terms of quality build but need for me is something that’s more about golf versus fitness.
Cameraman: "Mike, let's shoot a slo-mo walking video for watch".
Mike:*walks in slo-mo*
😄👍
Good review style. Good stuff. Subbed you
I’m glad that you like your garmin.
I’m a chef/manager at my restaurant , try android but I’m Apple user, tried all the Apple watches, but I always go back to my garmin fénix 5plus.
Got a Fenix 5x Plus, how is this Marq any better?
Can you rotate the bezel on this or the new version?
Watching your video is just one of the best thing I am doing so far in CZcams.
Whether product related to me Or not.
1 Request Pls cover the Review of Upcoming Nokia 8.2 ( Because I am thinking of Purchasing it & I don't want to watch other scraps) .
What is the watch on far right at about. 50 seconds mark.
Great Video (:
Did MrMobile ever told us what jacket he is wearing?
Pog and slammer! Wow what a slamming reference you pogster! Keep up the mid 90s references!
Does the captain still have sport tracking features?
Garmin make some fantastic sporting smart watches. The Fenix series is everything you could want for the great outdoors, sport and urban life.
So glad you've discovered the Mara series and appreciate it 👍👍
Love the music intro ! What is it ? Thx Mickael for such weekly and free quality vids !
Anyone know where I can find that watch band?
one thumbs up just because you said "this wasn't a commercial," that's what I like to hear.
To double the warranty for such an expensive product from one to two years is a joke.
4 or 5 years seem more appropriate if they designed a high-quality product and trust in their own engineering.
You can get the important functionality from the Fenix 5-6 line for a wide range of pricing. Why buttons over a touch screen? When you're running in freezing weather with gloves, buttons are a lot more practical. The health features and Garmin Connect reporting are great too.
I'm a mechanical watch guy and I love my Sinn 104, Oris Aquis and Seiko "Willard". I'm interested in smart watches, but the big problem for me is that most of the time the screen is black. I see that Garmin make "always on" watches with good battery life but the battery saving displays are low resolution. I'm tempted to get one anyway, but I'd like to see the technology mature a little more.
That's the smartwatch Tom Cruise should be wearing in Minority Report.
ah,Boschism.
While I haven't seen anyone wearing a MARQ series watch, I would say 40 or 50% of Navy Pilots wear a Garmin Fenix series watch. In some commands, they are actually issued one. I know of at least one story where the crew used their Garmin watch to safely navigate and land their jet when they had a malfunction and lost all of their instruments in the cockpit. And don't get me wrong, most of us would love the MARQ or even the D2 series, but they are hundreds (or thousands) more than a Fenix and they only have one or two features that the Fenix doesn't.
Absolutely a prestige/luxury play, yes! Also, that comment I cited from ABTW said something similar about service members using Garmin products. I'm not surprised; they're solid!
@@TheMrMobile I also completely agree with your statement that it ruins other watches for you. I've tried other watches (smart and normal) and nothing comes close. Music storage, two weeks of battery, tracking for every sport imaginable, and a super tough sapphire crystal just seals the deal for me.
Naviator2012
It's pretty much perfect except for that display.
I'll probably never own one, but I love it. I love your videos too! Keep up the great work
Seriously thinking about picking up the Marq athlete. Currently have a Fenix 6 Sapphire.
2:13 Nice easy to follow instructions!
I come for the tech, I stay cause of the 90s references.
Thanks for a great review, *Captain* !
At first I was like "okay I can get with this. a dope watch but worth the price." After a few minutes in and seeing the screen zoomed in and no crown or scrolling method other than clicking, it seems like someone put a diamond on top of a Pebble color.
Is there a subscription cost for the services offered?
Mr. Mobile always out there reminding me that my style game is weak.
have you considered this comparing with Tag heuer connected 2020 titanium edition
You used a pogs reference, what a cultured man 😁
Michael, seeing your cosplay pics...you should TOTALLY need come on the Star Trek Cruise next year.
I have been using a garmin Quatix5 for sailing. It’s quite useful with all its features for racing in sailing dinghies. I am sure the Marq is useful too.
What a great review! With passion!
I really want this watch. It they can get the price down to 1200-1500$ in the next 10 years, you got me. Maybe once i get into residency i’ll start saving for one of these ;)
Seeing as some of my watches are nearing 6-figures, I’d say $2k is a sneeze for a durable and stately watch with good GPS and such that is also a bit more exclusive than a boring old Garmin Delta or similar.
Great review, thanks! I agree with you, I am hesitant to spend $2k on a piece of tech that will be 'last year's model' in 2021. Smartwatches don't increase in value like analog timepieces can.
I know of no one collecting smart watches. Cannot say the same about a quality automatic...
What do you think about the 2nd generation of Garmin Marq?
I love your review. It’s seems so energetic and fun
I don't really care about smartwatches. I just love watching your videos. Good stress buster 😁
Thanks for the review!
Have you seen the new Quatix 6? What are your thoughts?
Buttons on a smart watch isn’t taking a step back, it’s genius. You could have gloves on, wet or dirty hands and still operate it.
I love the Marq series because it's the only watch series that truly offers mechanical high end watch quality with smartwatch technology and useful fitness/outdoor focused technology. But that blue jacket you had on was fire dude!
bro, 1st time seeing your review. Its 🔥
What is that jacket that you are wearing? Pretty cool.
Agree with you on the "focus" aspect. I'm an actual race car driver, and I would (almost) never use a smartwatch as a lap timer. I have specialized gear for that.
What I DO like to do with my Garmin (Vivoactive 3) is sync my heart rate from the watch to the video and speed / yaw / etc. sensors in my Garmin Virb camera. It's neat to see my heart rate trend up as I get closer to passing the guy in front.
I wanna know where did u get that sunglass
Every time I watch one of your Smartwatch reviews it makes me want to reconsider smartwatches, but when the video is over and the lust is over I remind myself that I don’t care about notifications, music on a watch, and that the watch will be obsolete in a few years. Still though, I love your videos keep up the good work.
Your link not working on google chrome.
Beautiful watch, and as always, fantastic video.
What kind of display in the watch, i think it's colored E'INK for how it looks
I've got the garmin tactix charlie and the biggest selling points were the long 2-week battery life and the sapphire glass which really does stay scratch free. Sure some of the unique options are cool, but really its just nice to see little things like heart rate, calendar updates and phone messages, but I would surely have broken a "regular" smart watch by now with how much of a brute I am.
So it is just an expensive fenix 6x pro? Which costs 1/3 of the price?
I like your blue jacket, where did you buy it? 4:47
Love the look Mr Mobile but I have a Galaxy watch with aluminum silver band curved fitting to the circular face with blue dial. Looks as sleek and hefty as your Garmin but with software amd screen improvement. Still the best overall smart watch on market.
Great review as usual. I would love to own one, but if I was about to spend almost $2,000 on a watch, I would rather get a Hamilton or Longines automatic and spend the rest on a Garmin Fenix 6. 😄 But I admit, I am not a target customer.
What's that blue jacket you wearing ? Looks cool.
Yo. dude really hit us with a pog reference.
Did you make a Pogs and Slammer reference??? I loved those as kid!!!
2020 Pog reference... Nice!
Does it have solar charging screen? (GBD-H1000)
