When it booted up at the end, the sound threw me back to my teenage years... PS2 was the first console I bought on my own, I hold PS3 the best console ever made but PS2 holds a very special place in my heart.
OK... I was impressed already but then at 25:00 where you fixed the broken piece with super glue and sanded it to look as though nothing happened... that was just brilliant!

I now understand why restoration and repair services are priced the way they are. Additionally, the level of craftmanship and engineering needed to design consoles with all the parts connected via screws is mind boggling to say the least. Soul Edge, that's my jam! I work for an event/party service, and we transport a lot of consoles ...in plastic tubs. Let's see here; 6 Switches, 2 Xbones, a Series S, and 2 PS5s. We just lay/stack them however they fit and lay the controllers and cords in. And we just lay monitors and TVs in the van however they'll fit. Now it's not my place to challenge my boss, I've tried to passively mention carrying racks for the van and zip cases for the tech, but he's pretty cheep and doesn't want to upgrade beyond whatever "works." Half our switch controllers are drifters, an Xbone has a jammed disc drive and only plays the downloaded games. Monitors have scratches on them. HDMI ports are loose. The systems don't look as nasty as that PS2, but they're not getting any cleaner. I went on a cleaning binge and cleaned them all when we had a location-space, but that was years ago. All the tech just goes back to his house after events and sits in his garage. It's utterly embarrassing in my retentive mind, but we do kid and family stuff, so it's not like anyone cares, but when we have broken tech, all I can do is just shake my head in silence and take the generous payouts. Sorry for the rant, just love my entertainment hardware and I don't neglect/abuse it. Thank you for this vid, it was soothing lol.
I usually can't stand electronic restoration videos (it is obvious that they put a good/working PCB in a broken/purposefully dirtied case), but this was amazing and it was just a through deep cleaning of a system. No fakery from what I can tell, and was a highly enjoyable video.
What are you smoking this case was 100% purposely dirtied. Who sells something like this without even doing a basic wipe. How is this even transported without a lot of that dust being dislodged. It's 110% doctored up.

I have the privilege of owning this very version. I paid 30 or 35 dlls for it including the vertical stand, it was sold to me as junk. It just needed some service in the DVD drive, and the console was filled with some redish/brownish gunk that smelled funny. I think the original owner was a "smoker" (opium) Also got a white Sega Saturn with it for 15 dlls, also labeled as junk. Just needed a new laser. Great video, it was very satisfying. It will come in handy when I have to service it in the future.

@@TheBrandonn I have seen Odd Tinkering, but that channel doesn't do it like this. Mainly just cleans important areas, then retro brights, basic restoration. This channel literally polishes copper ground points, completely restores metal shielding with nickel plating, regreases fan motors and disc drive assemblies, I can literally go on and on. Arguably it doesn't need to be at that level, but the fact it is at that level seperates it from the rest of the channels.
Can't tell you how thoroughly satisfying this was, Sir. You're technique and methods should be considered the Gold Standard in restorations! You treated that device as if it was the last surviving specimen left on Earth and on its way to go on display behind museum glass. Well done and most importantly..... Thank you.

Though the ps2 was not the first console to have backwards compatibility, it was my first experience with backwards compatibility as a child and sh*t blew my mind.

I remember working with my uncle at his shop many years ago and we used to wash optical units using dish wash soap and distilled water, leave it drying in the sun for hours. Many optical units were hard to find at the time and really expensive so we try restoring it, success rate was about 90%.
I've never owned a PS2 or anything of the many PS series but even I recognize the importance of how revolutionary the PS2 was at the time. You can play your games AND watch DVDs, functions like that back in the early 00s was insane to think about.

when you get to the "polishing up subassemblies of the optical drive" level of resto, you're at the top of your game. great vid. and i have to say some of the repair techniques are brilliant. gluing on that broken black part on the case via using tape as a scaffold. love it.
Whenever I hear that PS startup sound I think back to the game Medal of Honor (1999) where I must have finished that game a dozen times over. What a beautiful restoration job.
I work as a field service engineer and technician for industrial and commercial equipment. Sometimes I would clean and reassemble functioning components and not bother detailing it, because that is not what the service industry sells. I've learned through the years how wasteful the industry is only because it is expensive to repair the component(s) life, otherwise consumers would not afford such services and the industry would not exist. I appreciate your thorough work rendered to this.
Always wonder how all of the restoration masters manage to assamble everything back, especially when there are lots of tiny details. Increadible engineer knowledge, wonderful job!

Every nook and cranny was either unscrewed, screwed, plied, taped, sanded, calibrated, glued, unglued, unlubbed, lubed, flossed, greased, oiled, blown, painted, nickel-plated, polished, slimed, dusted, soldered, desoldered, derusted, tested, replaced with genuine parts, or brushed, scrubbed, scraped, bathed, sprayed, rinsed with 5+ solutions. This psycho painted a single screw no one will ever see because he just wouldn't allow it to have 1 mm of stripped paint 20:39 This is the greatest restoration video I've ever seen.

I remember working with my uncle at his shop many years ago and we used to wash optical units using dish wash soap and distilled water, leave it drying in the sun for hours.
Many optical units were hard to find at the time and really expensive so we try restoring it, success rate was about 90%.
I've never owned a PS2 or anything of the many PS series but even I recognize the importance of how revolutionary the PS2 was at the time. You can play your games AND watch DVDs, functions like that back in the early 00s was insane to think about.
I've got two Xbox360's that work but need this type of restoration. I'll happy pay for shipping too and from plus your restoration fee. Best work I've ever seen on consoles 💯👍

when you get to the "polishing up subassemblies of the optical drive" level of resto, you're at the top of your game. great vid. and i have to say some of the repair techniques are brilliant. gluing on that broken black part on the case via using tape as a scaffold. love it.

Whenever I hear that PS startup sound I think back to the game Medal of Honor (1999) where I must have finished that game a dozen times over. What a beautiful restoration job.
I work as a field service engineer and technician for industrial and commercial equipment. Sometimes I would clean and reassemble functioning components and not bother detailing it, because that is not what the service industry sells. I've learned through the years how wasteful the industry is only because it is expensive to repair the component(s) life, otherwise consumers would not afford such services and the industry would not exist. I appreciate your thorough work rendered to this.
Always wonder how all of the restoration masters manage to assamble everything back, especially when there are lots of tiny details. Increadible engineer knowledge, wonderful job!

All that effort put in to clean up and re-plate the metal bracket that most people aren't even going to see! It's amazing! I bet this console wasn't this clean when it came out of the factory in 2002! Nice videos, you've earned a sub from me!

I like that sony used re-usable rubber inserts to hide the case screws instead of stick-on adhesive ones like many companies use.

Every nook and cranny was either unscrewed, screwed, plied, taped, sanded, calibrated, glued, unglued, unlubbed, lubed, flossed, greased, oiled, blown, painted, nickel-plated, polished, slimed, dusted, soldered, desoldered, derusted, tested, replaced with genuine parts, or brushed, scrubbed, scraped, bathed, sprayed, rinsed with 5+ solutions.
