  • #linies are wonderful parrots! If you don't mind a smaller parrot, this may be a perfect companion for you! relatively quiet for a parrot, beautiful, sweet - Linnies are easy to take care of and are very friendly.

    Omg! You have 4 now. Congratulations. I love linnies. One tip that I will mention is that they love to burrow so be careful not to sit on then as they love to go under blankets and seat cushions. I have heard many stories of owners sitting on then unfortunately 😕

    I had a pair of linnies for 8 years. I was their 3rd owner. I thought they were the sweetest birds. When Amy passed Rory became quite a talker. He lived about 2 more years. They nibbled but never drew blood.

      @ParrotBliss  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for posting, Patricia. It's great to hear about your experience with them. I can't believe you were their third owner! Yes, I've had some nibbles that were asking for food, so they had a little emphasis to them! Lol but so far they seem like really sweet birds. I just can't believe they aren't more popular. It's also interesting to hear that Rory became more of a talker afterwards... They are supposed to be good talkers from what I've read. It's nice to hear you confirm that.

  • @Mapmoyle
    @Mapmoyle Před 2 lety +1

    Wildtype birds are generally more robust compared to colour mutations because breeders tend to inbreed stock to select for the mutated colours so you would expect them to be less robust than the wildtype. Cross-breeding with wildtype gives 'hybrid' birds that are out bred which gives more genetic variety and generally more robust offspring.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Před 2 lety +1

      I think I'm the wrong person to ask because I have larger parrots, so I really don't think much of the Linnie's poop. Yes, they poop more than parrots their size, but not THAT much...
      And, they seem so interested in people. I love them! very sweet and friendly - but like all parrots, they do bite.

    • @isabellevandenheuvel3619

      I have a linnie. they poop often. Sometimes large and sometimes really small(It’s easy to clean up though). However they are very cuddly and loving and once they bond with you, they will literally be you best friend and follow you everywhere. They with never leave you side and even when they do, they will call for you to get them (really clingy and adorable). So if poop is the only con, I would TOTALLY get a linnie. It’s worth it!

    Clipping wings is very mentally distressing to the bird and can also result in injury from falling. For anyone reading, Please never clip wings, just learn how to train instead and then you won't need to. Start with offering them food when you eat to signal to them that you are part of the flock. Make sure the food is safe for them like vegetables, no dairy and certain birds have certain allergies so make sure to research your breed. Scrambled eggs are my go to

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Před rokem +1

      I agree, clipping is hard on a parrot. I appreciate your expressing yourself.
      Everyone hopefully does what is best for them and their bird. My mission is to help people increase their bond so that they adore their bird, have a deeply bonded relationship that lasts a long time. If clipping is not necessary for safety reasons, hopefully they can create the bond without clipping.

    • @CariBarbour
      @CariBarbour Před rokem +1

      @@ParrotBliss Thank you for your response. My ringneck came clipped by breeder and all his primary feathers were cut off. He has fallen many times and snapped all his tail feathers. Its a constant worry that he will fall. He's a great climber but he sees my other birds flying, tries to fly and falls. It's heartbreaking. Hand raising the baby parrot is the absolute best way to bond. Second to that in my book is holding food in your mouth for him to take like your his mother. Some people do a hack job and actually damage the wings. Repeated clipping can make the bird never learn to fly. There are many other ways to bond that don't involve causing your bird mental distress. It takes a very long time for the feathers to grow back. My IRN can still not fly but some day I am hoping very much he will learn 🙏

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes. Depending on the size of the parrot, they can take a couple months to about 6+ months. Parrots don’t necessarily molt all their feathers, so it can take time for all of their feathers to grow out.
