Balut comes out usually after sunset and you don't look for them, the vendors who are mobile, they'll appear especially near pubs and bars. Sabaw means soup, drink that first before eating the foetus. Don't nibble, eat in one go except for the hard bit. Personally, I don't get adding vinegar, just add salt, it literally tastes like chicken soup. Locals usually wash it down with ice cold san mig beer.

People are always freaked about balut cause of the “bird” inside it. It’s an egg with delicious soup with a developed bird inside. They think it’s cruel to eat such things. But then again people eat veal and lamb which is baby cow and sheep and nobody frown upon that

The sauce is better mixed with fish sauce & vinegar. How's the taste of the balut? You can try the other version and we called it "Penoy". That's a duck egg but with no embryo. Usually, street food vendors is cooking fried egg and we called it Kwek kwek. You can see it there in Quiapo also, it is a round orange shape food. Just ask the food vendor if the egg is made of Penoy egg. 🙂

You initially put in too much vinegar. Just a few drops at a time. The balut's soup is basically like a chicken soup. Try to get a balut that is as young as possible to avoid getting one with feathers and a beak. The penoy is better because it's similar to eating a soft-boiled egg. Another thing to try is the one-day-old chicks fried in orange batter. Those are the ones you'll have to eat with all the bones and internal parts.
