      LaPetiteInes95 Don’t worry. though I never failed my SEP.. after 7 years in the Airline and I was sick due to back problems, eventually I couldn’t take MC anymore and had to do Ground job as per the company ruling and HR in my country. Then what happen , I did pretty well on ground and eventually the company needed me to be on ground. issues came later when I had to pick a few good flight Attendant for Private Jet as the owner seems to have problems with one after the other. .. In short I was asked to discuss with the pilot in charged of that company , conclusion the pilot wanted me to do that one flight so I would know what they are looking for... cut story short the owners family and the guests liked me and they requested for me over and over again ... I ended from a Charter Flight Attendant to a Personal Flight Attendant and lasted for about ten years.. YES things do happen for a reason, have faith and do what is right.. All the best to you. ..

      With the exception of a major European airline. They had to release some of their flight attendants as well, but at least offering the firm opportunity to be re-hired when demand goes up!
      Alternatively they offered part-time work or unpaid leave up to six months.
      All this is the result of tough negotiations between the airline and the major flight attendant's union!
      BTW: employees rights are much stronger here than in the UAE.

    The competition in Brazil IS INSANE. I went back to Brazil to do the interview I didn’t pass the 1 phase, I was so so nervous, and there had at least 300 people, but I heard one year before when Emirates opened again to new joiners it was 1.500 candidates in the open day. After 6 months I apply again but here in US, and OMG, only 60 people, it was waaaay better and even much easier, not so much pressure, I felt much less pressure and rush, and I got it to the assessment day. I always say for any Brazilian that can try in another country, do it! I really think we get much more time and attention to show our capacity, since the interviewer is not load of work with so many people at the same time to analyze.

    People need to think carefully when they move to foreign countries and especially to countries where human rights have always been an issue (how can living in Dubai or Qatar be a dream for some people, I still wonder...). I am working in Asia and chose my country carefully and sadly things are happening so I am being cautious with future plans. There are zillions opportunities in the Middle East and in particular in the UAE and Qatar I could have applied for... but no, you will never see me in this part of the world because in situations when you need support, you will be abandoned like you never existed. You have no protection whatsoever and like mentioned in the video, your life can change drastically or dramatically...
    One note though... The process for working in Emirates is hard but so is for any job when relocation is involved, competition is ferocious and tough. It is tough and I feel for the crew but hopefully people will consider what I wrote above more carefully in the future...
    Good luck everyone

      @m.p.r.6999 Před 3 lety +1

      I think the reasons some people choose to work in the Middle East is because they don't care so much about how they are going to be treated there as long as they got jobs and earning more than they could in their home countries, then they are fine

    • @m.p.r.6999
      @m.p.r.6999 Před 3 lety +1

      @RCH PE so you think everyone who chose to work and live in the Middle East are not in their right minds/crazies? No, people who illegally drink alcohol in the Middle East aren't executed (death sentence), they are fined and imprisoned. And speaking of blasphemy, it is a bad thing, whether you are a Christian or a Muslim or whether you belong to any other religion. Don't disrespect others and their faiths just because their beliefs are different than yours. Mind your own business, respect other people cultures and their faiths, respect their laws and you'll be fine.

    The information and quality of the video are impressive. One more thing that people might no keep in mind is the lack of communication from the company towards its employees. The way the have delivered the news - or lack of, actually- is also what has all the crew losing sleep at night. They have not come forward to their employees announcing what to expect. No one knows how many crew are expected to be fired, how long will this continue for, even the criteria that they are using to choose the ones that get redundant. Most of what you have said in the video, although accurate it is still rumours because the company has not made any official announcement to us other than they would fire crew. And even this was not informed to its employees first. The crew continuously have to find out about their employer actions through the news or rumours, because they don't communicate. It's psychological torture for many. It definitely needs to be managed in a better way.

You are not forced to have a pizza for $19, you can cook at home, or you can eat at cheap Indian places where you can have a whole meal for maybe 5 Dirhams. I think too many people fall on the debt trap or want to buy fancy stuff, there are plenty of people in the Gulf happily living on 2000 dhs a month and still able to send more than half of it back home

    For the well-being of all Emirates staff I think you under educated everyone on the issue of debt in the UAE. It’s important to cover the topic of debt for those who are losing jobs. Crew who have financial commitments with banks in the UAE and cannot meet bank obligations will find themselves in serious trouble due to UAE laws. What many countries would see as a civil matter such as an unpaid credit card is considered a criminal matter in the UAE. If you have any debt in the UAE it must be paid back before leaving or you’ll be stopped and detained at the airport. Once an employer has terminated you, all the authorities are alerted. I heard UAE authorities are checking with banks on expats with debts as they know people will be trying to abscond. During the 2008 crisis expats just left and negotiated with the banks safely from their home countries. Those who thought the most honorable thing was to work negotiations with the banks while still in the UAE found themselves in worst circumstances. The difference now is there aren’t flights so it’s not so easy to just get on a plane and leave. All the evidence is there from 2008. Sharing because it’s important to make sure you are well informed for your own safety. Also really surprised authorities are allowing you to post this level of private information on Emirates firing strategy. I wouldn’t highlight anything relating to private investments staff have been making as you’ll flag attention to focus on Emirates staff. I trust you are safely outside of the country. People have been jailed for far less. Be careful!!

    • @WishCasting
      @WishCasting  Před 4 lety +11

      Hi Terry! Good point. I purposely didn't cover it since I really don't know much about it.
      Most information we provided is scattered and available on the news already, we just added our own relatable experience to it. There's very little information we added to what Dubai media outlets are already saying.
      As far as I know, you get jailed only if your deposit check towards the bank (signed and given when opening the account or taking a loan, not sure here) gets bounced. You have 3 months to pay a bounce fine and the debt back. Meanwhile anyone can go home and settle from abroad (yes, if flights were made available).
      You can negotiate fines and debts from abroad much better, by hiring lawyers and not having to spend your nights in jail.
      I'm sure there's a lot of info out there.
      We're fine, we resigned 2 years back. This video is to support the crew who are now being discontinued and need empathy as much as possible.
      Thanks for the comment!
      Let's hope aviation goes back to normal swiftly (it'll be hard for a while I know) and let's hope today's mistakes serve us a better future tomorrow!

I agree about the Supervisory roles even in the old days we had Pursers (as they were previously known) who we all knew what we were in for in the briefing room. Power hungry, bullies actually.. most of them were women surprisingly and in todays world would probably be sued with their behaviour. I have to say the majority of crew 99% were amazing and I am still friends with them over 20 years later.

I was about to go home on vacation when the lockdown started, I had a 5 day cruise planned to Mexico, 3 days in NYC and then flight home. Luckily cruise, flight to NYC and hotel was refunded, however the flight from JFK to DUR might money gone if SAA goes belly up. With no sign of when the industry will open up again in North America, the financial devastation that will follow in two/three months will be scary if there's another extension to the pause. However I'm lucky that I'll have a job after the pause without having to apply again, paying off my credit cards will be a pain but at least there's that security at the end of the day and no more "life is for the living" going to be saving like crazy now.
