The 6GT (and its predecessor 5GT) is such a great car! At first it looks a bit weird and it took some time for me to understand the concept. It combines the presence of an SUV (just look how wide and massive it is!) And the luxury and sleekness of a sedan or coupe. Plus, it is somehow like a "secret 7 series touring", since the car is based on the 7, but much more practical and less expensive 🤫

For me, the design of Audi A7 is one of the best in automotive history. It’s so sleek and sophisticated.
The Audi A7 is definitely the best but that red colour doesn’t do the design justice. Stunning car overall though.

If I got to choose, I would choose the A7 over the other 2 any time, especially over the BMW which is imo just ugly, but of the ones shown in the video, the CLS looks far better than the other 2 just because of the color and rims.

It's the other way round! Mercedes managed to make the A class feel as premium as an expensive full size sedan. We should give them credit for that

I've driven around 6k in the 6 Series GT and it's grown on me more than any other car. I've grown to love it. Big, sporty, luxurious and surprisingly fun when pressing on - regardless of what the reviewer says.
Same here! Is the most practical, comfortable and perfect looking car. And this is from a guy who’s really fussy and drove range rovers for the last 5 years before I’ve owned a 6 series GT.

The worst thing about Merc is the fact that it looks almost the same as the A-class from the front.. Besides the size of course but still paying that much for a car, for me it just has to be distinctive :P

Chris Anderson not at all. Otherwise wouldn't be able to say they like the looks of the a class but not the cls yet in fact that's what a lot of people say. So that couldn't be farther from the truth. And you are not paying for exterior design. You are paying for a far superior interior, far more luxurious amenities and features and technology and far better comfort, practicality etc. I could go on and on. So you are getting more than three times the car.

@@BlurpGooDiJabba no the A3/A5/A7 are looking similair but you could easily figure out that the A7 is a higher class than the A5 and so the A3. Same with A8/A6/A4.
Imo the cls is a disgrace a downgrade i would rather buy a A class limousine for half of the price but a Look Like cls which is + for the a class and - for cls
In my humble opinion, the last gen CLS was WAY better looking than this current one unfortunately.

The problem is that the CLS looks like a CLA
Drove the A7 the other day, extremely good looking on the inside and out. The US engines are quiet and plenty fast. The touch screen requires a solid press to active and has a good click it almost feels like real buttons behind a glass panel. Some plastic parts bother me and the driver assistance radar look odd but they are much more advanced then the out going models. Getting to test a new A8 and Q8 later this week and the new A6 after that. It’s a perfect time to be a audi fan

I feel like with the 6GT, BMW attempted a very brave route. They made a comfortable, spacious and mostly passenger-friendly car, which are attributes BMWs were never really known for. This car is like their anti-BMW in a way, and despite its shape and all, I applaud that

Maybe and maybe not. The RS7/RS6 is rumoured to be powered by a V8 Hybrid powertrain, so it might be faster than the GT63 S. However AMG also have their own V8 Hybrid powertrain coming up too, so that will keep them on top :)
@TheEryk03 The AMG GT 4 door is the replacement for the CLS63 model. The new CLS will only go up to the 53 model now.

Matt, your review of the 6GT made me fall in love with it and you almost put me off of it at the beginning of this one. Agree with you that customers of the Benz and Audi are people who want a cooler looking sedan or more like they want a coupe’ luxury GT where they don’t have to get out and move the front seats every time someone needs to get in and out of the back. The 6GC served those customers too but, the 6GT is a different game. I am more interested in a car that has a rear seat closer to that of a 7 series but, don’t care about the front since a driver would be behind the wheel so why pay 7 series money since a lot of it goes for the front of the cabin. Also, I want the practicality and size of the 6GT... it’s more practical and usable than a 7 and 5 to carry people and luggage and isn’t massive like an X7. Totally different catering than the CLS and A7 in my opinion. Glad you featured it again though, it’s growing more on me as the best choice for what I want. Thanks for all your content even if I think it’s a mismatch, it’s still good content.

All great cars, but I chose the BMW and specified X-Drive, full air suspension and M Sport braking system....it is a fast and the most practical car with a proper hatchback, hence why I downsized from a 7 series.
It's amazing how no one ever compared the old 5er GT to the cls and the a7, but now thanks to a change in badging (and admittedly the lack of a new 6er GC) they've apparently managed to fool their way into this class lol

I have personally been driving a 6 Series GT for a year. I bought it because my family was growing and I have to say that it is the best car I have ever owned for everyday use. It offers enough space in the front and back. Whether it was an Audi, VW or Seat, we always had problems storing the stroller and luggage in the trunk, but that problem is now a thing of the past. And the 3.0 liter diesel is enough for a family that likes to go faster.

As an owner of a CLS350D 4matic (and ex of a 320D) I would say that I wouldn’t change it for the Audi or BMW. My CLS is classy, beautiful and I drove it on curves so fast that others would say wow 10 times. It is a sports coupe of another level!

Its a new level. That is bmw and Mercedes problem they cant Do something new/special. The new A7 is compareable with the next gen of the cls and 6 Series in Like 2025. Just compare the 2012 A6 with the 2016 E class

I actually like the design elements of the 6 more than the 5 series. The front lights and kidneys for example. It’s just that it’s a van thing. If it was a coupe with a hatchback like the a7 it would have been great.
The GT is the best among these 3 wonderful cars! It has more interior space and comfort than the others! Not to mention the luggage space

The 6 series is being replaced by the new 8 series and the 5 series GT is being replaced by the 6 series GT. The current 6 series gran coupe is out of production and even if they could get it, it's a bit outdated in terms of technology compared to these two (but I'd still have it over them, it's one of my dream cars)
Because for some bizarre notion BMW wanted to call the piece of pig iron a "Grand Tourer"

I love the BMW6 GT.....ive been looking at the 5 GT which has a TWO part boot lid... one part opens the lower section for normal stowage of luggage BUT also you can open up the entire hatch for mass stowage of your bigger items.... However I didn't see the same type of two part hatch lid on this 6 GT....DID you not show it or has bmw not added the very handy hatch lid.... dam it was such an attractive thing about the Grand Tour Model

I love my BMW 640t GT. The looks have grown on me, and it is 20k cheaper than an 840i which has identical performance and looks similar in the real world. I used to like Mercedes but hate the curvy interiors of the current crop.
Audi A7 is easily the best there. It has everything going for it. The CLS nowhere near as good as the last gen one.

HG504 that's simply not true. The new cls is better than the old one in nearly every single way. Better driving dynamics, more comfortable, significanly better interior, more luxurious x way more advanced in technology etc etc. And its just as good as the audi in that regard. So it mainly comes down to personal preference.
New cls design is so bad the exterior is garbage. I’m a life long fan of the AMG lineup and the e class. But Merc really fucked up the design this time
I just think the Audi interior design is horrible. TWO touchscreens and one down at knee height is just so unnecessarily difficult to use and distracting. Much prefer BMW‘s system.

Can we hope your reviews will include talk on what type/quality the axles, suspensions, gearboxes, steer (for gearbox and steer I mean the "invisible" parts "inside" the car) turbo, and so on the reviewed/compared cars have?
It would take only 3-4 minutes more, and would provide who is interested (I must assume it's not only I) with very very rare information.
Even the window glasses quality would be worth mentioning... how transparent the window is (how it does alter or not alter the colours), and so on.

I don’t think the GT is the right car, it should have been the normal 6 series, other than that, great test!
The Audi and Merc were created as sportier versions of their saloon base cars. This 6 GT - like the 5 GT before is about space and practicality. BMW don’t currently have a competitor in this class. Would be interesting to compare the less practical but sharper discontinued 6 GC as that would have been fairer.

Well, I don't like the rear end of the Merc but otherwise, I love the front interior area but I do think the BMW has by far the best rear interior half of the cars, the best back seat setup including the privacy blinds a great inclusion, the gas struts on the under-floor compartment, space for the cargo cover is also great as is the pull button fold down rear seats and the zero lip on the boot, otherwise I'm not a fan of the BMW externally or the front half. I like the Audi externally and reasonably the dash but that's about it. I think if I was super rich and could have a car built, I would have the front half of the Merc and the rear half of the BMW.

It would be interesting to see just how long all these touch screens last in real daily use. Most of my smartphones wear out within 3 years and so does my pads. Each system update slows them down as well. So will these screens still be functional in 5-10 years? The MERC is the best!
Hi Mat! Nice review and well said: these cars are a compromise. You really try to get everything in one car which is really difficult. Comfort, luxury, sportiness, spaces and like you said none is best at anything. I think cars like the Giulia QV or the M3 CP come closer to fulfill this all in one dream car?
