Before I see the video, a response to the intro:
My issue with rainbow is that when doing a normal run, picking up 1 copy of rainbow doesn't seem all that worth it.
It has the issue of "doing a lot, just not that well".
It gives you a tad of instant damage, it provides a tiny amount of block, it gives you potential burst damage for later (all of which are good, but when spread thin like that don't do as much work as you'd like).
If you're using it for any one of its 3 modes in particular, there are non-rare cards that do it's job better (the best mode being the dark orb because dark is just a difficult orb to run into [only obtained with 3 other cards and 1 is random chance]).
You can use it as a way to evoke all of your orbs (or a decent chunk if you have more than 3 slots) and replace them, but I honestly prefer evoke+draw+energy that you get from Fission (it tends to do just that while also giving you a way to look for outs).
It's better when it costing 2 energy is less important (lots of energy production or cost reduction [EG: Madness]), but then again lots of things become really good when you live in Magic Christmas Land (0 mana Echoform usually seems better than 0 mana rainbow).
It gets better if you have a bunch of focus, but usually if you have focus lightning and frost (both separate and together) get better or dark and frost (separate and together... kinda...) gets better (in my experience all 3 together don't play as nicely as I'd like [mainly because lightning and dark are fighting for similar roles: doing damage, just in a different play pattern]), making it where you want a critical mass of 1 or 2 orbs but not really caring about having all 3.
If you want Lightning orbs, most other Lightning cards do it's job better and for less energy.
Same goes for Frost.
Dark is the odd one out, and it gets the best deal merely because if Rainbow didn't exist it would be used even less than it already is (due to rarity).
If you want Lightning and Frost, the sheer amount of cards with both orbs (but not on the same card, so you will usually need to play 2 cards) will make it more available and typically do more work for the same 2 mana (like give additional block, deal damage, or provide an effect on top of summoning the orbs).
Lightning and Dark as a focus is odd because they compete for playstyle (you typically want to be evoking and replacing Lightning all the time to maximize damage output, but you want to strategically evoke the Dark orb after letting it sit around for a bit [reliable damage VS burst damage]); so I'll overlook this one.
Frost and Dark is a pretty solid combo (hole up under the solid block you get from Frost hoarding, then once you've waited long enough for the Dark orb to become worth evoking slide it to the front while also gaining even more block) but I'd honestly prefer a Darkness(+) or Doom and Gloom to grab the Dark orb (then play anything to get Frost) over rainbow [Darkness(+) gives you an extra tick of Dark and cost only 1 energy, and Doom and Gloom gives you some rather valuable AOE].
It's a setup card but it's an unfocused (hah) setup.
Yea you can make it work, but it's definitely not ideal (especially if you want it repeatedly, forcing you to upgrade it to not exhaust (and that's it) which always doesn't feel great [especially pre-Act 3]).
It can be used as a kind of payoff (I guess), but other cards like Fission and Elecrodynamics do what it does, but with a particular game plan already in mind (when using it this way).
Rainbow just feels overwhelmingly subpar when compared to the other things the Defect can substitute in.
Most (MOST) rares that the Defect has outshine it and it doesn't seem worth 2 mana (but it has the problem where it would be too good at 1 mana).
Now I'll see if the video changes my mind.
Commentary on the run:
The orb cycling at the beginning was pretty great damage, but the block was... not great.
Barrage was actually a fantastic pickup so early (maxing out it's damage with 1 card is pretty good).
Actually the first time I've seen Lock-On be worth picking up (that I can remember), so that's neat with this run (the abundance of Dark is real good).
Fairy in a Bottle picking up the slack for the block problem in the Hex fight was funny (all but the last 1hp is just temporary hp right?).
Of course immediately followed by getting a replacement Fairy, fantastic.
Plasma relic is actually really interesting in this run, makes playing 3 rainbows in a turn possible (not the worst for beginning of Act 2), but loosing the 4th energy so fast doesn't feel good.
Fission AND Defrag pickup is gigahuge.
The 9th Rainbow really making the run (yea... having 9 of a card that exhausts means that upgrading any of them isn't needed).
Branch with 10 cards to fuel it sounds pogged up, just don't get bad cards and it's easy money.
Yea like Echoform.
Decisive win VS Collector, very very good.
Scrape in a 0 cost light deck actually pulling weight is sweet.
21 hp going into Time Eater and another Act 3 boss isn't great though (birdface [branch maybe] and both potions helping out there).
Almost being able to E through Time Eater is promising.
It's kinda incredible how often Chaos has resulted in Plasma.
Amplify finally getting upgraded in Act 4 after putting in work.
Calipers is actually cracked in this run with all the Frost Cycling and Focus.
First time in a good while since I've seen Frost take Bottled Flame.
Very clean Heart fight too.
But, no Frost, 5x5 = 25; however, with lock-on 7x5 = 35 (>34) so yes that is lethal.

Conclusion:
I don't think this has changed my opinion on Rainbow for standard runs (where you get maybe 2 Rainbows by end of Act 3), but this run was really fun.

I'd say that the reason why rainbow is considered mediocre is that it's too broad, most people when building their deck throughout their run, focus into a one or two orb deck and often times it's something with frost since you need to live long enough to make those decks.
Rainbow just doesn't intuitively fit into any of the orb based playstyles and it's competing with rares that can be much better. Thunder strike is a win condition for an electro deck, artifact from Core surge can win you fights, add biased cog and you basically win 80% of the time with half decent deck, Buffer is godlike, Seek is just too good, and rainbow is... something that exists in the game slay the spire.

2:26 if there are no hot dogs within the radius of the explosion, then the previous statement is still true, although vacuously true at that. All hotdogs within a given radius will be perfectly cooked as there are no hotdogs within the radius. The statement would be just as true as saying “all phones in this room are off” in a room with no phones at all (this is a common example).
If there was a hotdog in the perfect spot to become the perfectly cooked hotdog of perfection, it would probably give you cancer.

If you mean evoking then that's still how plasma orbs work. Some cards let you evoke an orb more than once, otherwise it's passive is just 1 energy per orb at the start of your turn. Hexaghost's turn 2 attack scales with how much HP you have. I forget the exact formula but it's 1x6 damage from like 1-11 HP, then every 12 HP you have adds 1 damage per hit

Poly is not part of LGBT+. And I say this as a bi, poly guy. Poly is a dating style. LGBT+ is about sexual orientation. Just because something is marginalized does not mean it gets added. POC are marginalized but that doesn't make them all LGBT+, for example.
LGBTQ+ is for all queer folks, it isn't just about sexual orientation. An example of this is how transgender individuals are included, and that is about gender and not sexuality.
