"Suspicious Minds" is a 1968 song written and first recorded by American songwriter Mark James. After this recording failed commercially, it was cut by Elvis Presley with producer Chips Moman, becoming a No. 1 song in 1969, and one of the most memorable hits of Presley's career.
In 1992, Dwight Yoakam recorded his version, for the soundtrack of the film Honeymoon in Vegas, and also filmed an accompanying video. The track was later released on his compilation album "The Very Best of Dwight Yoakam"
I really enjoyed this rendition; it seems he gets better with time. At 65, Dwight Yoakam still exudes the country superstar aura he had when he started his career in the late 1980s. For nearly four decades in the industry, he has remained true to his stripped-down approach to traditional honky tonk and Bakersfield country music. That is why many roots rock and rock & roll fans remained loyal to his adventurous music.
To date, Yoakam has sold more than 30 million records worldwide -- that is a feat only a few country artists have achieved. He also had multiple Grammy wins and nominations and released 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum albums -- five of which topped the Billboard's Country Albums chart and 14 others in the Top 10. With all these successes throughout his career, Yoakam was finally inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.

Several years ago, me and my band were playing a bar in Lawrenceburg, Indiana - very close to Hollywood casino. There were a couple dozen Elvis impersonators there that had finished their gigs earlier in the day and relaxing with some adult beverages. They ended up staying the entire gig and one of the last songs we did was this tune - Suspicious Minds. Towards the end of the song, one of the Elvis impersonators asked to sing a chorus, so our lead singer handed him the microphone. He just sorta of just sang it. But the next Elvis impersonator took his microphone and did his version, but with a little more feeling and movement. Then the NEXT guy takes it and hams it up. Before long, every Elvis impersonator - easily two dozen - took their turns and put everything into it, trying to out-perform the previous guy. They were on their knees and sweating like hell. They were literally throwing the microphone to the next guy. It was epic - a lifelong memory.

Saw him a couple weeks ago. His lead guitarist was INCREDIBLE. Always puts on a classy show.

I had found the lyrics online and discovered that had three more refrains than Dwight did that night, but maybe because he knew he was already past curfew.
Dwight really was one of the last California cowboys it appears he's still got it sounded good.

Red Rocks Amphitheater is a pretty cool place too. My mom used to live in Longmont and watched Wild horses grazing in the valley during the winter - that whole area has some amazing countryside.

I imagine the front row is great. I haven't been that close to the stage since the 1990s when it was a smaller venue where there were either folding chairs or standing room in front of the stage. There a probably only a handful of songs where only one artist should perform. Elvis is the only artist that brought this song to life.

I agree with you on that. He's getting smoother with time and he seemed to be in a great mood after having not gone on tour since Covid hit. He certainly seemed to enjoy being out there again. P.S. I was surprised how good the sound was when I played it over real speakers instead of my phone.

Thanks. I stumbled upon some of your videos. It looks like you got some great seats. I hope to get closer in next time. As you can see, I've also dug up some older material that seems to be resonating with others - all in all, it's over 2 million views now, mostly in the last two months. When I look at the viewer stats though, there aren't a lot of young folks - I got my youngest to introduce him to some friends - it would be nice to see him make a comeback - he still puts in a great show.

The one downside is that it has a lens flare if you take pictures into a bright light (e.g. sunsets) - I try to align the flare with the sun, and then you don't see it.

No kidding, and they make parking a nightmare as you have to pay cash when you get there and folks forget - making it take forever. What's even worse is trying to get out with 2,500 other folks if you end up on the top of the hill.
