Me and my dad were travelling and there was this German Girl surrounded by a Small crowd of Auto Drivers and as soon as my dad saw that he understood what was going on! He pulled over and went there and asked what had happened, She explained to him in English that "I made a deal with him to go to Taj Lake Palace and he said 300 but now they are asking me for 700 because the traffic was there". My dad took out his wallet and gave 300 said them calmly that he is an IAS officer, told her we'll drop you and you can take picture of my car's number plate and send it to your friends for safety, she did so and cooperatively sat in our and was continuously thanking my dad. The happy ending? When we reached there her friends said horrible experience, we will soon leave for Dubai! The girl then told her friends that people in India are the most kind and this man is a living example! He paid the guy money from his pocket and dropped me off here for free. That bought me a sigh of relief and I realised my dad just saved our country's people's reputation in the eyes of these European people. PS: I got a Pic with them on their camera's but never received it! 😢

Unfortunately, this is so common in India. I am a foreigner and I face this every single day I go out. I don't mind paying extra because it is not a lot of money for us. But, it is so annoying when people try to scam everytime they see us. Sometimes, the amounts can be ridiculous. They act aggressively although they are wrong. There are nice Indians but people can be racist. I almost got into a fight with a transgender group who rudely shouted at me. They backed off because I was visibly so angry and it will not end well for everyone. Normally, I am a very nice introvert but when people are so rude, I can't control my anger anymore.

Staffs who has done nothing will insist I tip them and at a hotel, there are so many staffs, security, cleaners. Everyone treat foreigners like dumb money bags and it is so annoying. Shops will overcharge at least double, whenever I forget to ask the price before buying. Even when I am repeated customer of same product, they charge shamelessly. Like I bought the same thing yesterday for 100 and the next day it is 200. Some beggars tried to grab and eat my KFC box just outside the KFC. Last week, two guys tried to casually grab and walk away with my bag on broad day light in Kolkata. It was a bag of cigarette packets worth 2000Rs. While not a very huge amount, I didn't want to let them get away with it. I had to wrestled with them and forcefully took my bag back. It was on a huge road but nobody bothered helping, just watching like entertainment.

Tip even we locals use in India. Never take the first one. Check with others and you will have the idea of the near right price. This is applicable to all buying scenario....be it for rickshaw or buying something from a street vendor.
