You have to eat one of the most traditional breakfasts in northern India, of course! Chole bhature. You see shops selling this popular breakfast food everywhere you go in India, but for some reason in my time traveling here I never got to trying it. That was about to change today.
After some research, I decided to take a rickshaw over to Kamla Nagar to try a famous shop called Om Di Hatti. From nearby my hotel in Paharganj, it was about a 5-6km ride. A rickshaw on Uber would have cost ₹150, or roughly $1.83. With a fair price in mind, I walked out to the main road and flagged down a rickshaw. After a bit of bargaining, I was able to get it for ₹250, roughly $3.05. These are hard working men driving amidst pollution and living far from their families. I'll take it.
After getting on the rickshaw, I realized the driver didn't speak much English so I decided to switch to Hindi, which the driver was super impressed and happy with. I chatted with him and got to know he was originally from Bengal, and had been living in Delhi for 22 years, far from his family. I felt like he was a nice man so I decided to invite him for breakfast with me. He agreed.
After arriving at the shop, I ordered two plates of chole bhature. The owners were serious but friendly, and the cooks were extremely happy and smiling when I spoke Hindi. Each plate was ₹90, or roughly $1.10. This is considered slightly expensive in India as far as I know.
They serve the chole bhature on these nice-looking paper style plates and a paper-style bowl. One plate comes with a hefty serving of chole + aloo (chickpeas +), potato 2 giant bhature (the fluffy bread), mixed salad, and achar, which is pickled vegetables.
Delhi in particular doesn't have much seating. I think this restaurant does have some places to sit and eat, but the rickshaw driver invited me over to sit on his rickshaw and eat so I obliged. He also was kind enough to help me hold the camera and film myself eating. This is something needed in India since food is eaten primarily with hands and there aren't places to set the camera down. He was a big help!
The food itself was really good. I haven't ever eaten chole bhature before so I can't really compare it to other places, but the rickshaw driver agreed with me that it was about an 8/10. Not bad!
Overall it was a great start to the day. Hope you enjoy.

Your hindi is superb! Usually foreigners don't speak hindi! Advantage is that u will better understand our culture and customs!
Yes Christ is very clever nice speek Hindhi
what culture?
The Indian customs, behaviour of a people in particular situations in that area !
No one can cheat him because he can understand hindi.
Chris' Hindi is nuanced and he respects people, and Indian traditions. It's easy for seasoned people to be cautious, weary while walking the streets, this guy is totally at ease. He knows more about Kamala Nagar market than I, and I've spent a lot of time in this area of Delhi. 👍
Really very humble and kind to every person he meet 👍🙌 keep up the good work... 👍👍
Really appreciated the way you spoke Hindi despite being a foreigner....Hats off to you...

Chris this rickshawala was a good man. Also, you can get really awsome chole bhature in not so famous places.
You only understand how good Indian vegetarian food is only if you live out of India for a period of time.

Chole bhature is one of my favourite dishes and the best I've ever had is at Sharma Ji's at Mulchand in Lajpath Nagar, South Delhi. Must follow with a sweet lassi.

Hi Chris.. I have been seeing your vlogs.. and I must say u are a very good human being.।
Hi Chris…I am from US but from India. You are so polite…love your innocence. God Bless.
So impressed with your Hindi. I teach American Literature here and you should teach working Hindi in America. You are a linguist.
One thing I can observe with all these vloggers coming to India for travel is that they are erasing all the misconceptions and stereotypes existing in the minds of foreigners.
Welcome India bro.... when you go back to your country...tell them the beauty of India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Amla is Indian gooseberry a sour fruit, eaten pickled in oil and turmeric and salt or dipped in sugar syrup after steaming . Hard green fruit found with vegetable vendors 60-100 rupees.

Amla is the most medicinal fruit. It's green and has a very unique and sort of sour taste. People eat a whole raw Amla with a little salt to boost immunity. It can be cut and dried with salt to keep in jars and eaten after lunch or dinner. , it's very rich in vitamin C. It's an excellent digestive and immunity booster.
